Chapter 47 Let Go First

Chapter 47 Let Go First

"Professor Fu, you can't!"

The soldiers nearby were so anxious that they wanted to stop him.

Fu Jinxing, however, seemed not to hear.

He was dressed in a simple white shirt and tactical pants, looking clean and out of place against the blood-stained post-apocalyptic backdrop.

The sunlight outlined his tall and straight figure, and his eyes behind his glasses were fixed on the direction where Josie was.

One step, two steps... He walked with ease, as if the zombies lying scattered on the ground didn't exist.

Josie heard footsteps approaching the steps, and her breathing became rapid involuntarily.

She slowly turned around, and when that familiar face came into full view, she realized that her palms were already soaked with sweat.

It felt like a lifetime ago in her memory.

And now, he is still not much different from the gentle and refined Fu Jinxing in her memory.

"Brother Jinxing, what a coincidence." She said dryly, her voice sounding slightly off.

Fu Jinxing suddenly smiled.

That smile was like sunlight piercing through the gloom of the apocalypse, making Josie feel as if she had been transported back to a summer many years ago.

The next second, she was embraced in a warm hug.

A clean, pine-like scent instantly enveloped her.

Fu Jinxing's arms were strong yet gentle, and she could feel the vibrations in his chest: "I've finally found you."

These words brought tears to Josie's eyes.

If it were Josie from her past life, she might have reached out and hugged him without a second thought, crying her heart out in his arms.

But now, she has changed drastically; she is no longer that bright and innocent girl.

She stiffly raised her hand and gently pushed him: "Brother Jinxing, let go first..."

Fu Jinxing had never gone against her wishes before.

So after only a slight hesitation, the arms slowly released their grip.

But his gaze didn't leave her face; his eyes traced her features closely, from her messy bangs to her slightly dry lips.

“I’ve grown up,” he said softly, “and I’ve also learned to be strong.”

Josie turned her face away: "It's been three months since the apocalypse, why are you still outside?"

She deliberately changed the subject, "Shouldn't an 'important person' like you be among the first to be protected?"

Fu Jinxing did not answer immediately.

He took off his glasses and wiped them, a habitual little gesture that sent a shiver down john's spine.

When he put his glasses back on, his gaze behind the lenses became profound: "I'm looking for someone."

"Who is so important that they deserve your...?"

"A little liar who promised to call me but has never heard from me since."

"I tried every means to find you, but to no avail. With the apocalypse, finding you is like searching for a needle in a haystack. Fortunately... Heaven rewards those who persevere, and I finally found you."

A relieved smile appeared on his slightly tired face.

Josie's heart was in turmoil. "What...why did you call me?"

She never imagined that Fu Jinxing would go to such lengths to find her.

"What do you want? You heartless little thing, this world is full of man-eating zombies, do you think I can trust you?"

He wouldn't have left if the soldiers protecting him hadn't reminded him and if the establishment of the safe zone hadn't attracted survivors from the surrounding area.

The safe zone will be his last hope.

I never expected to run into Xixi on the way to the safe zone.

"I..." She opened her mouth, but didn't know where to begin.

Fu Jinxing patted her head as usual, "It's alright, everything is over. We've gone to the safe zone, guarded by the army and superhumans. Life in the city is normal."

Josie remained silent because her mindset had already changed.

She could no longer act like the old Josie, whining and chattering incessantly.

She couldn't do it anymore, and she could never go back to Fu Jinxing...

Fu Jinxing noticed Qiao Xi's change, but he didn't ask any further questions.

Anyone who encounters the end of the world will undergo a drastic personality change.

He only resented that he wasn't there for her when she was helpless and scared.

"Let's go down."

Josie responded and followed him downstairs.

"By the way, how are Auntie and Uncle?"

"Yes, don't worry, they've already been taken to the safe zone."

Qiao Xi fell silent, and Fu Jinxing was not a talkative person to begin with.

The silence between the two was unusually heavy when Josie didn't speak.

This time, however, it didn't seem to take long. Fu Jinxing turned around, went to the car, and took out a bag.

He pulled out a can of fruit and a self-heating rice and handed them to her all at once.

"Are you hungry? If you are, eat something first."

Just as Qiao Xi was about to shake her head, Fu Jinxing had already broken off a piece of chocolate and fed it to her.

"Xixi, eat."

The food was already being offered to her mouth, so Josie had no choice but to open her mouth and take it.

"That man just now looked like a soldier. Did he save you?"

If so, he will thank the other party properly.

"No, he and I were just traveling together."

The two chatted casually, with Fu Jinxing, who was usually quiet, doing most of the talking.

After an unknown amount of time, several figures appeared in the distance.

Grandma Chen was being carried on a soldier's back, with Zhao Wenjing close behind.

Meanwhile, Feng Ye and another soldier were quickly clearing away the approaching zombies.

Seeing this, seven or eight soldiers around Fu Jinxing rushed forward to help deal with the nearby zombies.

Feng Ye walked to Qiao Xi's side, glanced at Fu Jinxing standing next to him, nodded slightly to him, and then asked Qiao Xi, "Are you alright?"

Josh shook her head. "It's nothing."

After being put on the ground, Chen Qiurong held the soldier's hand and thanked him repeatedly.

At this moment, Fu Jinxing said with a smile, "You don't need to thank us, I should thank you!"

"Thank me?" Chen Qiurong looked puzzled.

Fu Jinxing smiled, "Yes, thank you for taking care of Xixi along the way."

Upon hearing this, Feng Ye's brows furrowed instantly.

"You and Josh...know each other?"

Fu Jinxing turned his head and looked at Feng Ye, noticing the hostility hidden in his eyes.

He frowned slightly. "Yes, Josie is the younger sister I watched grow up; she's like family to me."

Chen Qiurong quickly smiled and said, "That's wonderful! I never thought I'd run into someone I know in this world."

Fu Jinxing nodded politely, then said, "This isn't a good place to talk. Let's get in the car and leave."

"well."

Chen Qiurong was helped into the car.

After Qiao Xi went up, Fu Jinxing originally wanted to follow her up and sit next to her.

But Fengye was even faster; he was already in the car almost the instant Qiaoxi got in and moved.

Fu Jinxing's hand was still on the door, his gaze meeting Feng Ye's.

"Thank you. There are four of us here. Please sit in the front."

Fu Jinxing didn't get angry. He stared at Feng Ye for a while, then smiled and nodded, "Okay, I'll sit in the front."

After saying that, he closed the door and walked to the passenger seat to get in.

The front door was closed, and the man next to her took her hand in his…
