Chapter Sixty-One Like a Hungry Wolf
Although this is a safe zone, the hierarchical divisions of human society are very obvious and disorderly.
Therefore, there is no absolute safety in such a place.
She walked very fast and almost bumped into the man who came in as she ran out of the building.
Upon seeing her, the other person couldn't help but give her a blatant once-over, but quickly smiled and greeted her, "Miss Qiao, where are you headed?"
Josie initially didn't want to pay attention to him and had already walked a few steps past him, but she quickly turned back.
"You know this area very well, don't you?"
Chen Peng immediately smiled and patted his chest, "Of course, Miss Qiao, is there something you need? Tell me, and I promise I'll take care of it for you."
“Okay,” Josie said without any politeness, “My sister went out to do laundry for someone this morning and hasn’t come back yet. Can you ask her what’s going on?”
She hoped it was just something else that had delayed her, but she had to prepare for the worst, so she needed to hurry up and find out if Wenjing was really in trouble.
To everyone's surprise, Chen Peng's expression turned somewhat strange as soon as Qiao Xi finished speaking.
"You know?" A cold glint flashed in Josie's eyes.
"I have heard about this, but I don't know if it's about your sister." Chen Peng immediately said, "I'll go ask for you right away."
“Wait,” Josie called out to him, “Tell me what you know first.”
Soon, Josh learned from Chen Peng that the local thugs in the tent area had stolen several young girls who were washing clothes.
They all thought the young girl who did laundry had no connections, so they figured it was no big deal to get rid of her.
Chen Qiurong and Zhao Wenjing simply didn't want to add too much burden and trouble to Feng Ye, and since they thought this was a safe zone, they went out to find work.
After hearing this, Josie turned and left without saying a word.
Josie had heard about the tent areas in the various safe zones; they were for the lower classes living in the safe zones who didn't have enough points to make a living and could only live there in cramped conditions.
Bloody, dark, cruel...
That was her most direct understanding of the tent area.
She touched the dagger between her legs and asked her way to the edge of the tent area.
She hesitated for a moment, then resolutely stepped into the tent area.
As they ventured deeper, the path narrowed, and the tents were crammed together, emitting a musty smell and the stench of excrement.
People with withered faces squatted outside the tent, either staring blankly at her, this "outsider," or staring at her like hungry wolves.
Without any hesitation, Josie drew her dagger and glared back with equally cold eyes.
Three years into the apocalypse, her aura had undergone a complete transformation. When she unleashed it without any concealment, it was enough to intimidate some wicked people with ill intentions.
But her face was too conspicuous, and although those people dared not make a move against her rashly, they continued to follow her.
Josie pretended not to see and continued walking into the tent area.
"Big sister, do you know where those girls who were just kidnapped are?"
The older woman remained expressionless and simply waved her hand.
Josie immediately pulled out a piece of chocolate. "If you tell me, this is yours."
When the lifeless eyes saw the chocolate, a glimmer of light finally appeared.
She bit her lip, seemingly struggling internally, and finally waved her hand, "I don't know, I don't know, don't ask me."
After saying that, he lifted the tent flap and went inside.
Josie encountered setbacks along the way, and it seemed that no one dared to provoke the group that had kidnapped her.
Josie was getting anxious; another hour had passed since she came out.
The longer it drags on, the worse it will be for Wenjing.
Just as she was trying to calm herself down, she suddenly heard a bird call.
Josie instinctively turned her head and saw a little boy in the gap of the tent, pointing in a certain direction.
Josie glanced back at the six or seven men with eyes like hungry wolves following behind her.
Josie threw the dagger up, caught it easily, and made a throat-slitting motion against her own neck.
The group of men immediately stopped and hid.
Taking advantage of the moment, Josie walked quickly to the tent. "Do you know where the person I'm looking for is?"
He nodded timidly, "Just walk along this main road for a hundred meters, then turn left..."
The terrain seemed a bit complicated. Josie tried hard to remember it. Those people didn't dare to say anything, probably because they were afraid of provoking those bad guys.
After hearing this, Josie took out all the chocolates she had and placed them in his palm. "Thank you. Go back now, don't let anyone find out."
The little boy was very clever; he immediately grabbed the chocolate, turned around, and disappeared into the gap in the tent.
She wasn't sure if the little boy was telling the truth.
But... that child's eyes were so clear, she had to take the gamble.
Following the boy's directions, Josie spent five minutes seeing a series of makeshift shacks made of tattered canvas and planks.
Even though it was just as simple, it seemed somewhat "extraordinary" compared to the surrounding tents.
The sound of girls crying came from inside, one after another, clearly indicating that quite a few girls were crying.
"If you cry again, I'll throw you out to feed the zombies! Stay put, you hear me!"
There were guards near the shed, so Josie squeezed into the gap of the nearby tent, circled around to the closest point to the shed, and turned into a pebble to slowly roll into the shed.
The shed door wasn't closed properly, and she easily rolled inside.
The sight before her infuriated her: Wenjing was tied to a chair, her cheeks red and swollen, clearly having been beaten.
On the other side, a pretty girl, not much older than Wenjing, was lying naked on the bed.
You can tell at a glance what they've just been through.
This is the end times, where the evil in human nature will be amplified infinitely.
Josie noticed two men in the shack.
The thin man was facing away from Josie, seemingly tidying up something.
Another short, stout man's gaze swept over the girls, then settled on Wenjing, and he walked over with a chuckle.
Wenjing witnessed the entire process firsthand, and she was so frightened that tears and snot streamed down her face.
With the only leg it could move, it kept kicking, shouting, "Don't come any closer, get out of here!"
The short, fat man grinned maliciously, "Little girl, now that you're in our hands, I advise you to behave yourself, or you'll be the one suffering. Do you know how we deal with those particularly disobedient girls? They all end up in the stomachs of zombies. If you don't behave, you'll end up like them."
Zhao Wenjing shook her head violently, "No, don't come near me."
The short, stout man lost his patience and grabbed her leg, trying to pull down her pants.
Just then, I felt a cool touch on my neck.
"What……"
Before he could even utter the word "things," he finally realized something was wrong.
He turned his head and met Josie's cold gaze.
"let go!"
But when the short, stout man saw her, his nervousness turned into teasing, "Ha...so she's a woman, and a stunning beauty at that!"
His mouth was agape, seemingly oblivious to the dagger at his neck; drool was practically dripping from his mouth...
