Time seemed to freeze, and Xiao Yi remained in this position, motionless, not daring to breathe. After a long while, after confirming that there were no unusual sounds or movements, his tense nerves relaxed a little.
But he still did not let his guard down and continued to carefully observe the situation inside the house. After repeatedly confirming that there was no hidden danger, he finally took that difficult step and slowly walked into the house.
His footsteps were very light, fearing to startle anything. The moment he entered the house, his body remained in a defensive posture, his long sword held across his body, ready to deal with any unexpected situation.
As soon as Xiao Yi stepped into the house, a strong and stale smell hit him in the face. The smell was a mixture of rotten wood, damp soil and the musty smell of time, which choked him so much that he couldn't help coughing a few times.
He looked closely and saw that the ground was covered with thick dust, like a gray velvet carpet. Every step he took would raise a cloud of dust. The dust danced in the weak light coming through the broken window, forming a hazy dust cloud.
There were debris everywhere, including broken wooden boards, rusty nails, broken tiles, and some strange objects whose original purpose was unknown. These things were piled up together in a disorderly manner, with almost no place to stand.
In the corner of the room, there was a pile of tattered books, their pages yellowed and moldy, their spines torn and broken, some pages gnawed by mice. Next to it was a pile of tattered clothes, holes and stains covering every inch of the fabric, emitting a foul odor.
Near the wall, there were several broken pottery jars, some of which had already shattered, with the contents scattered all over the ground, mixed with the dust, creating a messy scene.
Xiao Yi carefully avoided these debris, and each step was extremely difficult. From time to time, there was a creaking sound under his feet, as if protesting his intrusion.
Xiao Yi frowned, beads of sweat the size of beans rolled down his forehead, and the pain in his legs spread throughout his body like an electric current, but he gritted his teeth and endured it.
He bent down with difficulty, his hands tightly grasping the broken furniture. Every time he exerted force, the pain in his legs intensified. He gasped for breath, using all his strength to slowly lift the furniture one by one, and walked out of the house step by step. He had to pause after each step, enduring the excruciating pain that almost made him faint.
After finally moving all the broken furniture out of the house, Xiao Yi didn't even bother to rest and immediately started looking for something useful. He found some rags and branches in the corner, and a glimmer of hope flashed in his eyes.
He squatted down, tore the rags into strips, then arranged the branches one by one and carefully tied them together with the rags. Although his hands were shaking slightly due to fatigue, he still focused on the work in his hands, and finally a simple broom took shape.
Xiao Yi picked up the broom and began to sweep the dust off the ground. Every time he swung the broom, the pain in his legs would make his body tremble, but he still persisted. The dust flew in the air, choking him and making him cough, but he did not stop his movements, sweeping again and again, carefully and persistently, just to make a relatively clean and tidy space for himself.
During the arduous cleaning process, Xiao Yi's sharp eyes never stopped searching. Suddenly, his eyes were attracted by a corner exposed under a pile of debris.
He squatted down with great effort and used his hands to clear away the debris on the top, and a rusty hammer came into view. The wooden handle of the hammer was worn and covered with traces of time, and the hammer head was also rusted, as if telling a story that had been forgotten.
Xiao Yi picked up the hammer and weighed it in his hand, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes. Then, he continued to search around and found a few more nails. These nails were also rusty, and there was some dirt on the nail caps.
He placed the nails in his palm and looked at them carefully. Although they looked worn out, Xiao Yi knew in his heart that in this difficult environment, even such rusty nails could play an important role at a critical moment.
He seemed to see the scene of using these nails to repair houses and make tools, and the little flame of hope burned even more vigorously in his heart. Xiao Yi carefully put away the hammer and nails and continued to work on the cleanup. At this moment, he was more determined and stronger because of these discoveries.
Xiao Yi stood in the middle of the room, looking at the space he had just cleared. He knew clearly in his heart that everything in front of him was just the beginning. He took a deep breath, frowned, and kept thinking about his future plans in his mind.
He knew that simply clearing away the debris and dust was far from enough to guarantee his safety. The outside world was full of unknown dangers and threats, with violent storms that could strike at any time, and unknown enemies lurking in the darkness.
This place must become indestructible in order to become a real shelter where he can rest in peace and resist all risks. He imagined that when disaster strikes, the fragile walls will not be able to withstand the invasion of the storm, and the broken windows will become a channel for the enemy to invade.
Xiao Yi bit his lip, his eyes revealing a firm determination. He told himself that he could not have the slightest fluke mentality and could not be satisfied with the little results in front of him. He had to work harder, use his wisdom and strength, and make this place an impregnable fortress.
He silently planned every step in his mind, thinking about the materials and tools he would need and how to get them. Xiao Yi knew that this would be an arduous task, but he had no intention of backing down, because he knew that this was his only hope of survival.
