Chapter 669: Trap Setting

Xiao Yi gripped the rusty hammer tightly, his palms full of sweat, and a few nails were bitten in his mouth. He walked to the broken window, first selected a few pieces of wood of suitable size, and leaned them against the window frame to gesture.

He picked up a nail from his mouth, aimed it at the junction of the wooden board and the window frame, raised the hammer, and smashed it down with force. With a "bang", the tip of the nail slightly embedded in the wooden board, but his hand was also numb from the shock. But Xiao Yi did not stop, swinging the hammer again and again, and the nail drilled into the wooden board and the window frame little by little.

With each nail, he adjusted the position of the board to ensure that it would fit snugly across the gap in the window. Sweat trickled down his cheeks and onto the ground, but he didn't bother to wipe it off.

When one board was nailed in place, he began to nail the next one, repeating the same action, and the sound of hammers echoed in the room.

Finally, the broken window was firmly nailed up with wooden boards. Xiao Yi panted heavily, and after a short rest, he picked up the hammer and nails and carefully chiseled a few small holes in the wooden boards.

He squinted one eye and looked outside through the small hole, adjusting the position and size of the hole to ensure that he could observe the situation outside without easily exposing the situation inside the house.

After completing all this, Xiao Yi looked at the window he had nailed and felt a little relieved, as if he had a greater sense of security.

Xiao Yi dragged a heavy stone and moved to the door with difficulty. He was breathing heavily, sweat soaking his back, but his eyes were full of determination. He used all his strength to push the stone behind the door and hold it tightly against the door.

Feeling that it was still not safe enough, he brought some thick wooden stakes and placed them across the back of the big rock to further strengthen the blocking force.

Then, Xiao Yi began to set up a simple trap at the door. He dug a few deep pits on the ground, inserted sharp bamboo sticks at the bottom of the pits, and then carefully covered the pit openings with some weeds and branches.

He also found some ropes from the surrounding area, tied one end to a nearby pillar, and tied a bell to the other end. Then he stretched the rope across the path that must be taken to the door, just at the height of his calf.

In order to increase the effect of the trap, Xiao Yi scattered some fine stones at the door, which would make a noise if something broke in.

After setting all of this, he carefully checked to make sure every trap worked. He felt more confident as he imagined what would happen if a zombie or other dangerous creature approached and accidentally triggered the trap.

Xiao Yi stood at the door, looking at the fortifications he had carefully set up, and silently prayed in his heart that these measures could protect his safety.

After completing the preliminary defense arrangements for the house, Xiao Yi's tense nerves relaxed a little, and then the problem of supplies came to his mind. He frowned and searched the house anxiously.

Suddenly, a shabby cabinet in the corner of the room caught his eye. He walked over quickly and opened the door expectantly. A stale smell filled the air, and the cabinet was cluttered with items.

Xiao Yi's eyes lit up when he saw several cans of food and bottles of water. He excitedly reached out to pick up the cans and carefully examined the labels, only to find that they were all expired. A hint of disappointment flashed across his face, but it was quickly replaced by helplessness.

Xiao Yi picked up a bottle of water, shook it gently, and found that the water inside was still clear. He wondered how much help these expired cans and the water that he didn't know if it was still drinkable could provide him.

He took out cans of food and water from the cabinet one by one and placed them neatly on the ground. Although the condition of these supplies was not ideal, in this difficult time, even a little hope could not be lost.

Xiao Yi sat on the ground, staring at the supplies, thinking in his mind how to use them reasonably so that he could last longer.

Xiao Yi squatted beside the pile of food and water he had just discovered, a look of relief in his eyes. There were only five or six cans of expired food, the labels faded and looked worn. There were only three bottles of bottled water, and the bottles were still covered with a thin layer of dust.

Despite their small number, their appearance is undoubtedly a ray of light in the darkness at a time when supplies are extremely scarce and survival is difficult. Xiao Yi knows very well how difficult it is to find a bite of food or a drop of clean water in the outside world.

Every can of food and every bottle of water seemed invaluable at this moment. These things might not be enough to keep him full for long, but they could provide him with much-needed energy and water at the most critical moment, giving him the strength to keep going.

Xiao Yi's hands gently brushed over these cans and water bottles, as if he was touching the most precious treasures in the world. His heart was filled with gratitude. This unexpected surprise made his originally heavy mood a little lighter, and also made him look forward to the future a little more.

He knew that the days ahead would still be full of challenges, but at least now, he had these resources to rely on, allowing him to hold on for a while longer and find more hope of survival.

Xiao Yi took a deep breath, tightened the long knife in his hand, and resolutely stepped out of the house. His steps were a little heavy, but his eyes were full of determination.

The sunlight outside was a bit dazzling. Xiao Yi squinted his eyes and vigilantly observed the movements around him. He walked along the edge of the high ground, moving forward carefully, taking every step with extreme caution, for fear that making any noise would attract unknown danger.

His heartbeat was particularly clear in the silence, and his breathing was a little rapid due to nervousness. He held the long sword tightly in his hand, ready to deal with any unexpected situation at any time.
