Xiao Yi carefully searched every corner, not missing any trace of possible supplies. As time passed, his physical strength was gradually depleted, but he still did not give up.
Just when he was feeling tired and desperate, luck came to him. In another abandoned house, he found a dilapidated cabinet.
He opened the cabinet door with great anticipation and saw some dry food and medical supplies inside. The dry food, though its packaging was a little damaged, looked edible. The medical supplies, though simple, were also extremely precious life-saving items at this moment.
A long-lost smile appeared on Xiao Yi's face, and his heart was filled with joy and gratitude. He quickly gathered the supplies, carefully packed them into his backpack, and hurriedly set off on his return journey.
With the hard-earned supplies, Xiao Yi's tense nerves were slightly relieved. He decided to build a comfortable bed for himself to have a good rest.
He searched around the house and finally found a few old mattresses in a room full of junk. Some of these mattresses had holes in them and some had springs exposed, but Xiao Yi didn't care.
He dragged the mattresses one by one to a relatively dry corner with great effort, sweat streaming down his cheeks. Then he began to look for blankets. In the back of a cabinet, he found several old and slightly moldy blankets.
Xiao Yi shook the blanket vigorously, raising a cloud of dust. He couldn't help coughing a few times. Then, he carefully spread the blanket on the mattress, trying to smooth out the uneven spots.
He first put a layer of blanket, then put the mattress, and then covered it with another layer of blanket, layer by layer, just to make the bed softer and more comfortable. During the laying process, he kept adjusting the position of the mattress and blanket to ensure that there were no sharp edges that would prick him.
When the bed was initially completed, Xiao Yi stood aside, looking at the fruits of his labor, and a sense of satisfaction welled up in his heart. Although the bed looked simple, it was the best place he could create for himself to rest in this difficult environment.
After a long period of busyness and hard work, Xiao Yi finally completed the bed he had been looking forward to for a long time.
He stood in front of the bed, examining every detail. The mattress was old, but after careful stacking and arranging, it had become thick and supportive. The blankets, though a little worn and frayed, were layered together to form a soft cushion.
He gently pressed the mattress with his hand, feeling the slight elasticity, and a relieved smile appeared on his face. In one corner of the bed, he deliberately folded the blanket more neatly to make the whole bed look more regular.
Xiao Yi checked his surroundings again to make sure there were no sharp objects or debris that would affect his rest. He also placed a pillow at the head of the bed. Although the pillow was a little flat, it gave him something to lean on when he lay down.
Next to his bed, he placed a bottle of water and some dry food to replenish his energy if he woke up during the night. He also placed his long knife within easy reach to ensure that he could react quickly if danger came.
Looking at this simple bed that was the product of his hard work, Xiao Yi felt a sense of accomplishment. He knew how precious it was to have such a place where he could rest in peace in this world full of dangers and uncertainties.
At this moment, he felt extremely tired and couldn't wait to lie down and have a good sleep to restore his physical strength and energy.
Xiao Yi took a short rest and immediately threw himself into the work of improving the shelter. He knew that just a comfortable bed was far from enough. If he wanted to survive for a long time in this dangerous environment, the shelter must be more solid and practical.
He began to repair the leaks in the house, carrying stones and wooden boards and carefully filling the cracks in the wall. He paid full attention to every knock and fix, ensuring that the repaired place could withstand the test of wind and rain.
Next, he dug a shallow trench around the shelter. Although his hands blistered and his muscles ached from the digging, he kept working. Once the trench was complete, he inserted sharp branches into it, forming a makeshift barrier.
Xiao Yi also built a canopy at the door, which was made of collected branches and plastic sheets. In this way, when entering and leaving the shelter on rainy days, they would not get wet.
Inside the house, he built a simple stove with stones so that he could cook and keep warm. He also made some simple shelves with wooden boards to store supplies and tools, making the house more tidy and organized.
He kept thinking about what needs to be improved and how to make this shelter safer, more comfortable and convenient. Xiao Yi's busy figure shuttled around the shelter, sweat soaking his clothes, but his eyes were always full of determination and persistence.
After Xiao Yi came up with the idea of setting up a lookout on the roof, he immediately took action.
He first found some wood that was strong enough. Some of this wood was dismantled from abandoned buildings, and some of it was collected by him from the surrounding woods.
He carried the heavy wood and climbed up to the roof step by step with difficulty. The tiles on the roof made a slight sound under his feet, which made him take every step carefully, for fear of accidentally breaking the tiles and sliding down.
After reaching the roof, Xiao Yi began to measure and plan the location and size of the observation deck. He used hammers and nails to splice the wood together, trying to create a solid frame.
During the construction process, the sun was high in the sky and the heat was unbearable. Sweat kept dripping from his forehead, blurring his eyes, but he just casually wiped it with his sleeve and continued with the work in his hands.
