Chapter 721: Troublesome Maneuvering 2

Just as Xiao Yi thought he could breathe a sigh of relief, easing the tensions with the islanders, a more severe insect plague swept in without warning. The once clear sky suddenly darkened, and a fierce wind howled across the land. From the base's observation tower, Xiao Yi saw from afar a dark, swirling cloud rapidly moving toward them. At first, he thought it was just an approaching storm. But as the "dark cloud" drew closer, he realized with horror that it was actually a dense swarm of locusts. The overwhelming swarm of locusts, like a surging black tide, laid waste wherever they passed. In an instant, the farmland surrounding the base was covered in locusts, devouring the green crops in mere minutes, leaving only withered branches. The farmers' desperate cries echoed through the air. They tried various methods to drive away the locusts, but to no avail. Xiao Yi quickly organized his team to fight the insect plague. However, the number of locusts was too large, and the effect of pesticides was minimal. People desperately waved their tools, but could not stop the locust invasion. The insect plague not only destroyed the crops, but also threatened the base's food reserves. Around the warehouse, locusts frantically banged on the doors and windows, trying to get in. Xiao Yi had to dispatch more people to strengthen the guard of the warehouse. At the same time, the battle with the islanders continued. The enemy noticed the chaos in the base and took the opportunity to intensify the attack. Xiao Yi was caught in a dilemma. On the one hand, he had to deal with the huge damage caused by the insect plague, and on the other hand, he had to guard against the enemy's attack. The atmosphere in the base became extremely tense and depressing, and everyone's face was full of anxiety and fatigue. Xiao Yi knew that if the insect plague problem could not be solved as soon as possible, the base would face a serious crisis of food shortage, which would undoubtedly make things worse for them who were already dealing with the enemy.

The overwhelming swarm of insects, like a dark cloud, drew everyone's breath. "What are we going to do? Our crops!" Panicked, people watched their fields threatened by the swarm, their hearts aching with anxiety. The black mass of insects seemed like a boundless, dark ocean, surging toward the fields. Their deafening buzzing sound, like the trumpets of doom, filled the air with terror. Countless locusts swarmed and overlapped, forming a thick, ever-squirming black barrier that obscured the sky and completely blocked out the sunlight. People stared wide-eyed, their mouths agape in horror, their faces filled with despair and helplessness. An elderly farmer, his hands trembling, clutched his hoe tightly, his voice piercing with tears: "Oh my God! This is going to wipe out our livelihood!" Women clutched their children, their eyes filled with fear and worry, tears welling in their eyes. Young and strong men clenched their fists, gnashing their teeth as they stared at the swarm, unsure of what to do. "The crops we worked so hard to grow are gone!" someone shouted angrily, but the sound was quickly drowned out by the roar of the insects. Everyone frantically ran through the fields, trying to scare away the locusts with clothes and straw hats, but it was a drop in the bucket. The locusts descended on the crops like a torrential downpour, instantly ripping the emerald green leaves apart and snapping the stems, leaving them to fall to the ground. "It's over, it's all over!" Cries of despair echoed one after another, and the people's hearts seemed to plummet into the dark abyss along with the impending destruction of the farmland.

Emergency mobilization Xiao Yi immediately realized the seriousness of the problem, and he quickly organized everyone for emergency mobilization. Xiao Yi shouted loudly, his voice sounded particularly loud and urgent in the noisy environment: "Everyone, gather in the square immediately!" His eyes were firm and serious, revealing an unquestionable determination. When people heard his shouts, they put down their work and ran towards the square from all directions. Xiao Yi stood on the high platform of the square, looking at the gradually gathering crowd, anxious. "Fellow villagers, the insect plague is coming, and our farmland is in danger! But we can't sit and wait for death, we must unite and deal with it together!" Xiao Yi's voice was full of power, echoing in everyone's ears. He quickly assigned tasks: "Men, divide into groups. Group one, prepare tools and make insect nets and torches. Group two, set up barriers around the fields to prevent further insect invasion. Group three, stand by for support. Women, some will prepare large quantities of fireworks, others will prepare water to put out the fires and repel the insects. Children, help deliver messages and supplies." Xiao Yi's words were clear and decisive, and the crowd nodded, their eyes alight with hope. "This is a tough battle, but as long as we work together, we will defeat the insect plague and protect our homes and food!" Xiao Yi raised his fist to encourage everyone. People quickly sprang into action, some running home to search for materials, others beginning to make tools. The square was a scene of bustling but orderly activity. Xiao Yi moved among the crowd, offering guidance and assistance, ensuring everyone understood their roles. Under Xiao Yi's leadership, a fierce battle against the insect plague was about to begin. "We must do our utmost to protect our crops; they are the very foundation of our survival!" Xiao Yi's voice echoed through the crowd, resolute and powerful. Xiao Yi stood high above, his gaze sweeping across every tense face. His voice, resonant like a bell, pierced the clamor and anxiety of the crowd. "Think about it, everyone! If all our crops are destroyed, we will starve, and our families will starve! This land has been the foundation of our survival for generations, and these crops are our hope!" His words were filled with deep worry and urgency. "We have no retreat, only courage! This is not just a battle against insects, but a battle for our future!" Xiao Yi clenched his fists, his arms waving powerfully in the air. People looked up at Xiao Yi, his eyes burning with an unyielding fire that seemed to ignite the fighting spirit within them all. "We must summon all our courage and strength. No matter how exhausting or difficult it may be, we must not retreat even a single moment! Every crop is our lifeblood, every field our battleground!" Xiao Yi's voice echoed across the empty square, resonating with the hearts of the people. "We must protect the harvest of this land and our home! Join me and go all out!" he shouted, his voice filled with determination and conviction. His encouragement rang out among the crowd, their eyes growing firmer, their hearts filled with the courage and resolve to fight the insect plague to the end.
