Chapter 720: Troublesome Maneuvers

To further confuse the enemy, Xiao Yi orchestrated small-scale counterattacks, misleading them into believing the base had a strong reserve force. On a foggy morning, an enemy patrol cautiously advanced along a mountain road. Suddenly, a barrage of bullets erupted from the bushes on either side of the road. A small group of elite warriors, led by Xiao Yi, appeared like ghosts, instantly disrupting the enemy's position. "Counterattack!" the enemy commander cried in panic. But before they could mount an effective resistance, Xiao Yi and his men had vanished into the forest, leaving only a few wounded enemies groaning in their wake. Another time, near an enemy camp, after nightfall, Xiao Yi dispatched a small detachment to stealthily approach an enemy supply depot. Several minor explosions erupted, and flames shot skyward. As the enemy rushed to their aid, they were met with a fierce barrage. After inflicting some damage, the detachment quickly withdrew, disappearing into the darkness. On another occasion, as the enemy's main force was on the march, Xiao Yi's soldiers, from their elevated positions, used precise fire to bring down several enemy leaders. The enemy panicked and sought cover. However, when they prepared to counterattack, they discovered their attackers had vanished. These small-scale counterattacks, perfectly timed and employing flexible tactics, kept the enemy from fully understanding the strength of their forces, leading them to mistakenly believe the base had ample reserves and could launch a full-scale assault at any moment. The enemy began to become paranoid, each advance filled with fear and doubt, significantly slowing their offensive.

As he maneuvered, Xiao Yi constantly observed the enemy's patterns of movement and weaknesses. After each brief encounter, Xiao Yi, like a keen hunter, meticulously reviewed every detail of the battle. He often climbed alone to a high vantage point, telescope in hand, and quietly observed the enemy's every move. He observed that the enemy's vigilance was relatively low in the early morning hours, soldiers seemed somewhat languid, and guard changes were lax. He then silently memorized this time period. Xiao Yi also noticed that the enemy's supply trains always moved at fixed times and routes, and were relatively lightly guarded. This discovery sparked a glint of excitement in his eyes. He observed that the enemy's response to surprise attacks was slow, and the coordination between their units was clearly flawed. Some units charged blindly, while others retreated, resulting in overall ineffectiveness. Xiao Yi also conducted in-depth research on the enemy commander's command style. He found him to be overly complacent, preferring to stick to predetermined plans rather than adapting flexibly. At night, while everyone else rested, Xiao Yi sat by candlelight, meticulously recording everything he observed in a notebook. His brow furrowed, then relaxed, his mind racing, pondering how to exploit these patterns and weaknesses to inflict a fatal blow on the enemy. As time went on, Xiao Yi's understanding of the enemy deepened, and a clear battle plan gradually took shape in his mind.

He organized numerous surprise attacks, catching the enemy by surprise and inflicting considerable losses. On a quiet midnight, moonlight streamed across the silent mountain forest. Xiao Yi led an elite squad, silently approaching the enemy camp. Clad in dark combat uniforms, their steps were as light as night cats, making almost no sound. Nearing the edge of the camp, Xiao Yi raised his hand, signaling his men to halt. He peered through his night vision goggles. The enemy sentries were yawning, oblivious to the approaching danger. With a sudden wave of his hand, Xiao Yi gave the command, "Action!" The men rushed out like arrows from a bow. They quickly dispatched the sentries, then split into smaller groups and charged into the enemy camp. Suddenly, the sound of gunfire and shouting shattered the night's stillness. The enemy, startled from their slumber, frantically searched for weapons, but it was too late. Xiao Yi led the charge, his submachine gun unleashing a furious stream of fire, felling enemy after enemy. Another time, on the route that the enemy's transport convoy had to pass, Xiao Yi and his team ambushed in advance on the hillsides on both sides of the road. When the convoy loaded with supplies slowly drove into the ambush circle, Xiao Yi gave an order, and grenades fell like raindrops, followed by dense bullets. Vehicles were blown up, supplies burned, and the enemy fell into chaos. Some vehicles tried to turn around and escape, but were blocked by boulders rolling down the mountain. Another time, the enemy was conducting a military exercise. Xiao Yi took advantage of their loose formation and lack of concentration and led the team to suddenly attack from the flank. The enemy was confused by the sudden attack and could not organize an effective resistance at all. These repeated raids caused heavy losses to the enemy. There were many casualties, and a large amount of weapons, equipment and supplies were destroyed or seized. Xiao Yi's name made the enemy terrified.

Despite facing immense pressure, Xiao Yi and his team remained calm and resolute, relying on wisdom and courage to fight this thrilling, volatile battle against the enemy. Xiao Yi's face was gaunt, his eyes sunken, exhausted from the constant fighting, yet his eyes always burned with an unyielding fire. Every decision he made was under immense pressure, as a single misjudgment could lead to total defeat. Yet, he always managed to maintain a clear mind and calmly analyze the situation at critical moments. The team members were equally exhausted, their wounds still fresh, and new challenges looming. But they never complained or flinched, their eye contact filled with trust and determination. At a critical moment, the enemy's encirclement gradually closed, and it seemed that victory was already tilting towards them. Xiao Yi stood in the center of the team, his voice steady and powerful: "Brothers, we must not fear! Pressure will only make us stronger!" His words were like a shot in the arm, energizing the team members. They took advantage of the familiar terrain and skillfully avoided the enemy's attack. On the narrow mountain path, they supported each other and forged ahead step by step. Xiao Yi, constantly aware of the surroundings, directed the team's movements. Just when the enemy thought they were doomed, Xiao Yi led the team through an unexpected opening, thwarting their plans. During the long battle, they faced shortages of food and water, and the danger of running out of ammunition. But each time, they persevered with unwavering faith and tenacious will. Sparks of wisdom flashed in their minds, and one ingenious tactic after another emerged. They would sometimes feint to the east and attack in the west, sometimes luring the enemy deeper into their territory, leaving them exhausted in the battle. Courage surged in their hearts, and every time they faced a hail of enemy fire, they charged forward without hesitation. They knew that retreat meant failure, and only by forging ahead could they hope for victory. In this way, Xiao Yi and his team, under tremendous pressure, used calmness and determination as shields and wisdom and courage as swords, and persevered tenaciously in this thrilling battle, waiting for the dawn of final victory.
