In the evening, the once clear sky suddenly seemed to be swiftly painted with a thick, inky hue by an invisible hand. Dark clouds, like surging black waves, rolled in from the horizon, covering the entire sky and spreading at an astonishing speed, instantly swallowing up the last glimmer of sunlight. A fierce wind roared like the roar of an enraged beast. The wind howled through the trees, shaking branches violently and creaking in agony. Leaves detached from their branches and fluttered wildly through the air like runaway butterflies. Dust and sand from the ground were swept up by the wind, forming misty swirls that stung people's cheeks. Small branches and dead grass were uprooted and tumbled through the air, their destination unknown. The distant mountains became blurred in the wind, as if shrouded by a thick, gray veil. The entire world seemed to be plunged into chaos and confusion, leaving people feeling an inexplicable fear and unease.
"Oh no! It's going to rain hard! Let's get back to camp!" Xiao Yi shouted, his voice strained against the howling wind, but his tone was incredibly anxious and resolute. Xiao Yi's brow furrowed, his eyes filled with tension and worry. As he shouted, he waved his arms rapidly, motioning for everyone to follow. His face was distorted by the strong wind, and his hair flew wildly in the breeze. Xiao Yi's voice trembled slightly with nervousness. "The wind is so strong, the clouds are so low, the rain is coming soon. We can't delay a moment!" His throat was hoarse from shouting, and his eyes scanned the crowd eagerly, making sure everyone heard his warning. The wind seemed to swallow his words, but he continued to shout at the top of his lungs, striving to make his voice penetrate the wind and reach everyone.
Everyone's heart tightened at Xiao Yi's call, and in a panic, they turned and ran back. Their footsteps were hurried and heavy, kicking up dust and fallen leaves along the way. Some clutched their freshly gathered food tightly, fearing it would fall; others, not even bothering to wipe the sweat from their foreheads, struggled to move forward. The sounds of rapid breathing and the clattering of objects echoed through the ranks. However, their speed was ultimately no match for the impending downpour. Before they could even reach camp, the gloomy sky seemed to rip open, and a torrential downpour suddenly poured down. The large, bean-sized raindrops pounded down, striking their bodies and faces with a sharp, painful thud. The rain quickly blurred their vision and made the already rough and difficult path even more slippery. Each drop of rain was like a heavy artillery shell, splashing high into the ground. Soon, everyone's clothes were completely soaked, clinging to their bodies, heavy and cold. The howling wind continued, blending with the torrential rain to form a blanket of white, making it almost impossible to tell which way was which. But they didn't stop, forcing their way through the storm with only one thought in mind: get back to camp as quickly as possible.
Returning to camp, they found the tent swaying violently in the wind and rain, as if it would be uprooted at any moment. The once sturdy support now seemed fragile, creaking with a heart-wrenching sound under the fierce wind and rain. Xiao Yi and Chen Hao, not even bothering to change their soaked clothes, rushed to the tent. Xiao Yi's face was wet with rain, his eyes barely open from the pounding, but his gaze was filled with determination and resolve. Chen Hao gritted his teeth and followed closely behind Xiao Yi. They quickly grabbed a thick rope from the side and began to work diligently to reinforce the tent. Xiao Yi, holding one end of the rope tightly with both hands, twisted it around the tent support, pulling it tight with every twist. Chen Hao, on the other side, matched Xiao Yi's movements, using stones to secure the other end to the ground. Their hands were white from the rain, but they didn't dare to stop for a moment. Meanwhile, Lin Meng, Su Yao, and Zhao Lei were also busy. Lin Meng's hair was wet and stuck to her face, but she ignored it. Holding a pile of food tightly in her hands, she carefully entered the tent and placed the food in a dry corner. Su Yao used her body to protect some important items and trudged forward in the rain, taking every step carefully, fearing that the items would get soaked. Zhao Lei made repeated trips back and forth in the rain, quickly moving the remaining items into the tent. Rain continued to stream down their faces, and their clothes were already soaked, but everyone was doing their best to protect the camp.
The rain intensified, like a river bursting its banks, a surging curtain of water cascading down from the sky. The dense raindrops formed countless thick silver threads, weaving a boundless web between heaven and earth, making one feel as if they were in a world of water. The raindrops hit the ground with a deafening sound, like a galloping army. The already muddy ground was transformed into a swamp, and puddles of water, large and small, quickly gathered into turbulent streams, rushing towards the low-lying areas. The strong wind, swirling with the torrential rain, formed a series of madly swirling waterspouts that swept everything in its path. Branches snapped and fell under the combined force of wind and rain. Leaves, already shattered, drifted helplessly in the wind and rain. The distant mountains were completely obscured by the thick curtain of rain, disappearing into the vast mist. From time to time, a dazzling flash of lightning flashed across the sky, followed by deafening thunder. It seemed as if the entire world was shaking and trembling before this violent force of nature. And the rain showed no sign of stopping. Instead, it became more and more violent, as if it wanted to drown everything in the world in its wrath.
"We don't know how long this rain will last. We must be prepared," Xiao Yi declared loudly. His voice was faint amid the roar of the wind and rain, but his tone was filled with determination and composure. Xiao Yi frowned, his brow furrowed as the rain streamed down his forehead, blurring his vision, yet he didn't bother to wipe it away. His eyes, filled with worry and thought, swept over the crowd. He took a deep breath, raised his voice, and continued, "Such heavy rain could easily cause floods or landslides. We can't let our guard down. We must plan ahead for all possible scenarios." Xiao Yi's voice trembled with anxiety, his lips pale from the rain. "Everyone, stay alert and monitor your surroundings." He waved his hand vigorously as he spoke, as if conveying his worry and determination to everyone. Though drenched, he remained as unshakable as a mountain, offering a sense of security and support.
