The captain nodded slightly, his expression grave, and said, "I agree. We can't trust too easily. Let's first conduct a covert investigation to determine the true origins of this external force and whether there's truly something fishy about the assault team." The Shadow Squad sprang into action. The stealthy members quietly followed the experts they had contact with, attempting to locate the base of the forces behind them. The intelligence-gathering members canvassed within the team and among other neutral psychics, searching for clues. The entire team acted methodically, refusing to act rashly without solid evidence. Instead, they quietly prepared their plans, awaiting the moment to uncover the truth.
Xiao Yi stood in front of the supermarket shelves, his shopping basket already filled with instant noodles and canned goods. The sky outside the window suddenly darkened. He looked up and saw that the originally clear sky was shrouded in a strange red light.
"Dear customers, please note that due to a power system failure, this supermarket will be closed soon. Please check out and leave as soon as possible." An urgent notice came over the radio.
Xiao Yi's heart suddenly tightened. He took out his cell phone and found that there was no signal. The lights in the supermarket began to flicker, the crowd became agitated, and screams rose one after another.
"Get out of the way!" A burly man roughly pushed Xiao Yi aside and rushed to the cashier. Xiao Yi stumbled back, his back hitting the shelf, and several packages of biscuits fell. He ignored the pain and tightly protected the shopping basket in his arms.
The supermarket was in chaos, with people frantically grabbing the goods on the shelves. Xiao Yi saw people running out with whole boxes of mineral water, and others fighting over the last bag of bread. His temples were throbbing, and his palms were covered in cold sweat.
"We have to get out of here quickly." Xiao Yi gritted his teeth and moved towards the exit along the wall. Suddenly, he caught a glimpse of a familiar figure from the corner of his eye - it was Mr. Zhang who lived next door, who was being pushed and fell to the ground.
Xiao Yi hesitated for a moment, but still rushed over. "Uncle Zhang, are you okay?" He helped the old man up, but found that the old man's forehead was broken and blood was flowing down the wrinkles.
"Xiao Xiao...what on earth happened?" Uncle Zhang asked tremblingly.
Before Xiao Yi could reply, he heard a loud bang. The supermarket's glass curtain wall shattered, and a cold wind swept in, carrying shards of glass. Xiao Yi subconsciously protected Uncle Zhang and felt a sharp pain in his back.
"Hurry!" He supported Grandpa Zhang as they rushed out. The scene outside made him gasp—the streets were in chaos, cars parked in the middle of the road, some still smoking. People were running around like headless flies, screaming and crying.
Xiao Yi settled Uncle Zhang on a bench by the roadside and took out two bottles of water and a few packets of biscuits from the shopping basket and stuffed them into his hands. "Uncle Zhang, please wait here. I'll go get help."
The old man held his hand tightly: "Xiao Xiao, you have to be careful..."
Xiao Yi nodded, turned around and rushed into the chaotic street. He had to go home as soon as possible because he had an elderly mother at home. When he passed by an electrical appliance store, he saw that the TV in the window was still playing the news, but the picture kept flickering.
Xiao Yi ran wildly on the street, the cold wind scraping at his face like a knife. His back still ached, but he couldn't care less. Screams and sounds of smashing and smashing continued to emanate from the buildings on both sides of the street, and the air was filled with the smell of burning.
Turning a corner, Xiao Yi suddenly stopped. Not far ahead, three men armed with iron bars were beating up a young man. The young man was curled up on the ground, holding a backpack tightly in his arms.
"Hand over the food!" The bald man in the lead kicked the young man in the stomach.
Xiao Yi clenched his fists. Reason told him to take a detour, but seeing the young man's painful expression, he still rushed forward.
"Stop!" Xiao Yi shouted and picked up a brick on the ground.
The three men turned around, and the bald man grinned: "Another one comes to die."
Xiao Yi took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down. He noticed that although the three men were fierce, their movements were not coordinated and they were obviously not professional fighters. He slowly backed away until his back was against the wall.
"You want food, right?" Xiao Yi suddenly threw the shopping basket to the left and rushed to the alley on the right. The three men were distracted, and by the time they realized what was happening, Xiao Yi had already run more than ten meters away.
"Chase!"
Xiao Yi turned left and right in the narrow alley. He was very familiar with this area. The footsteps behind him were getting closer and closer, and he could hear heavy breathing. Suddenly, he saw a pile of discarded cardboard boxes in front of him, and immediately had an idea.
He pretended to trip and fell heavily to the ground. Three men chased him, and the bald man raised the iron bar: "Run, why don't you run?"
At this moment, Xiao Yi suddenly opened the cardboard box covering him and scattered a handful of lime powder. This was left over from his previous renovation and had been placed in the alley.
"Ah! My eyes!" The three men covered their faces and screamed.
Xiao Yi took the opportunity to get up and picked up the iron rod on the ground. His hands were shaking, but he still smashed it hard on the bald man's knees. The bald man screamed and fell to his knees. Seeing this, the other two people turned around and ran away without caring about their companions.
Xiao Yi panted heavily, looking at the bald man groaning in pain on the ground. He squatted down and took out a pack of biscuits and a bottle of water from the bald man's pocket.
"You stole this, didn't you?" Xiao Yi said coldly, "Now it's returned to its original owner."
He turned and walked towards the young man, who had barely sat up. Xiao Yi handed him the food: "Are you okay?"
The young man shook his head and suddenly widened his eyes: "Be careful!"
Xiao Yi felt a gust of wind on the back of his head, and he instinctively rolled to the side. The bald man got up at some point, and the iron rod in his hand brushed Xiao Yi's shoulder and fell to the ground.
