Chapter 852: Blue Star Destruction 7

To prepare for the harsh desert conditions, they prepared ample water and food before setting out, along with some rudimentary navigation equipment. However, the desert's vastness and unpredictability exceeded their imagination. Sometimes, a sudden sandstorm would instantly engulf them, leaving them lost; other times, the wheels would sink deeply into the soft sand, forcing them to dismount and work together to push the vehicle free.

After several days of arduous trekking, a dark figure finally loomed in the distance. As the distance gradually closed, the outline of the mysterious base became clearer. Towering walls, constructed from massive metal plates and concrete, gleamed coldly in the sunlight. Simple fortifications were erected atop the walls, giving them a seemingly impregnable appearance.

Xiao Yi and his companions approached the base cautiously, trying to conceal their whereabouts. They stopped behind a sand dune not far from the base and observed the movements of the base. They saw that the gate of the base was closed, and several armed guards were patrolling back and forth at the door. Their eyes were alert and they maintained a high level of vigilance to everything around them.

"How can we get in with such tight defense?" a companion asked in a low voice, with a worried look on his face.

Xiao Yi frowned, thought for a moment and said, "We can't act rashly. Let's find a place to hide first and observe for a while to see if we can find an opportunity."

So, they built a simple hiding place behind the sand dunes and took turns observing the base. After a few days of observation, they found that the base would send a convoy out to search for supplies every day, and the time of each outing was relatively fixed.

"This might be an opportunity," Xiao Yi observed the retreating convoy, a plan gradually forming in his mind. "The next time they go out, we'll find a way to sneak in." A few days later, when the convoy from the base went out again to search for supplies, Xiao Yi and his companions sprang into action. They ambushed the convoy's return route and, as it approached, quickly attacked its rearguard with improvised, homemade weapons. After a moment of chaos, they successfully hijacked a vehicle and donned the convoy's clothing.

In this way, they infiltrated the base. What they saw inside shocked them greatly. The buildings were neat and orderly, yet an atmosphere of oppression and terror permeated the air. Chained slaves lay everywhere, their clothes tattered, their faces sallow and their bodies gaunt, their eyes filled with fear and despair. Under the whips of their overseers, the slaves were forced to perform heavy manual labor, and any slackness would result in a severe beating.

Xiao Yi suppressed his anger and carefully explored the base with his companions, trying to find the core area of the base to see if they could find a way to rescue the slaves. Just as they were about to approach a large building, they suddenly heard a fierce quarrel.

They quietly approached the direction of the sound and found that several leaders of the base were holding a meeting.

"There are fewer and fewer survivors outside recently, and we don't have enough slaves. We must find a way to capture some more." said a fat man with a fleshy face.

"But now everyone outside is on guard against us, so it's hard to catch us." Another tall and thin man said with a frown.

"Hmph, then find a way to set a trap and lure them over here." The fat man said viciously.

Hearing this, Xiao Yi was shocked. He realized that he had to take action as soon as possible, otherwise he didn't know how many survivors would fall into the clutches of the devil.

At this moment, their whereabouts were accidentally discovered by a patrolling guard. The guard shouted loudly, and in an instant, the alarm in the base sounded, and countless guards rushed in their direction.

"Fight them!" Xiao Yi shouted, and together with his companions, he drew his weapons and started a fierce battle with the guards. Although they were outnumbered, their sense of justice and desire for freedom made them burst out with amazing strength.

During the battle, Xiao Yi noticed a glimmer of hope in the slaves' eyes. He took the opportunity to shout, "Brothers, we are here to save you. Let's fight together, break free from these shackles, and regain our freedom!"

Hearing Xiao Yi's cry, some of the braver slaves began to respond. They picked up the tools around them and joined the battle. The originally one-sided situation gradually changed, and the guards began to fall into chaos. As more and more slaves joined the battle, the situation in the base became increasingly favorable to Xiao Yi and his team. Those slaves who had been oppressed for a long time had accumulated endless anger in their hearts. At this moment, like a volcano erupting, they vented all their anger on the guards.

Xiao Yi seized the opportunity, taking advantage of the guard change, and using all his skills, he scaled the wall and infiltrated the base. The scene inside the wall made his blood freeze. On the streets, slaves toiled under whips, their eyes empty, as if their souls had long been devoured by the darkness. Their bodies were covered with scars, new and old, and their frail bodies were crumbling under the heavy labor.

In a corner, several slaves were struggling to carry huge stones. The overseer stood by, cursing and swearing. The whip in his hand fell from time to time, hitting the slaves' backs with a crisp and cruel sound. Xiao Yi suppressed the anger in his heart and continued to go deeper.

He arrived at the heart of the base, where magnificent mansions stood. In stark contrast to the slaves toiling outside, the mansions were ablaze with light and filled with laughter. The base's higher-ups lived a life of extravagance, using the slaves' blood and sweat to build their own paradise of pleasure.
