Chapter 44 This Cat Is Not Good
Yuka stepped out of the room and bumped into a solid shadow.
She looked up and saw Qin Zhuo standing not far away, and in his hand, he was holding Mimi by the scruff of her neck!
Mimi's fur stood on end.
Upon seeing Yuzuru, its bright green cat eyes instantly lit up, as if it had seen a savior. It twisted its body desperately and cried out to Yuzuru with a pitiful yet urgent voice, "Meow—meow!!"
Master! Help me! This monster is grabbing me and won't let me into the house! It's outrageous!
Yu Xiang looked at him and her previous anxiety disappeared, replaced by a look of confusion.
She blinked, looked at Qin Zhuo, and asked, "Zhuozhuo, why are you holding Mimi? Did it do something wrong?"
Qin Zhuo looked at Youxiang.
"Little Yuzu, shall I go find you a new cat as a pet?"
"Meow!!!"
What does this mean?! Is he going to abandon me and find someone new? No! Could he be planning to do something sabotage to me?
Mimi revealed the sharp claws hidden under its paw pads, as if to scratch Qin Zhuo's large hands that were restraining it.
Qin Zhuo reacted extremely quickly, almost instinctively letting go of her hand.
With a "whoosh," Mimi, now free, darted to Youxiang's feet with lightning speed, rubbing affectionately against her calves and letting out pitiful cries.
Yu Xiang quickly squatted down and hugged Mimi into her arms.
She looked up, her little face full of seriousness, and shook her head at Qin Zhuo.
"No, Zhuozhuo. Mimi is unique, I love Mimi, I won't abandon her."
"Meow~"
This cat is so touched! That jerk, ugh!
Mimi nestled comfortably in Yuxiang's arms, rubbing her little head against her chin and purring contentedly.
Qin Zhuo watched the little beast acting cute and cuddly in Youxiang's arms, his brows furrowing even more, his tone carrying a hint of displeasure that he himself didn't realize.
"This cat is no good."
"Meow!!"
What's wrong with me? I'm perfectly fine! Excellent!
Mimi immediately poked her head out from Youxiang's arms, bared her teeth at Qin Zhuo, and let out a threatening growl.
Yuka tilted her head in confusion and tightened her grip on Mimi's arm.
"What's wrong?"
Qin Zhuo felt a strange sense of irritation as he watched Youxiang defend the cat.
He said in a deep voice, "Didn't it lie to you before?"
"That's all in the past," Yuxiang waved her hand dismissively. "I'm not that petty. Zhuozhuo, why do you suddenly dislike Mimi?"
Qin Zhuo was caught off guard by the question. He couldn't very well say that he had just discovered the cat was male and that he didn't like having a male cat constantly being held by her.
He turned his face away and said curtly, "I just don't like it anymore."
"Pfft—"
A suppressed laugh suddenly came from the corner.
Chen Yunfei walked over, patted Qin Zhuo on the shoulder, and winked at Youxiang, saying, "Hey, little Youxiang, let me tell you, Brother Qin, he knew Mimi was male, and then he..."
"Ugh! Ugh! Ugh!"
Before Chen Yunfei could finish speaking, Qin Zhuo swiftly covered his mouth.
Qin Zhu glared at him coldly, her eyes seeming to say: If you say one more word, you're finished.
Chen Yunfei immediately shut his mouth, mumbled two "uh-huhs" to indicate that he understood.
Yuka asked in confusion, "So what if Mimi is a male cat?"
Qin Zhuo then released his grip, took a deep breath, and tried to make his tone sound more natural as he explained to Youxiang, "It's nothing. It's just... I personally prefer female cats; I find them more docile."
Yuxiang blinked, hugged Mimi, and said to Qin Zhuo in a serious tone, "Zhuozhuo, that's sexism. Male cats and female cats are the same!"
Qin Zhuo: "..."
He was speechless.
Faced with Yuka's clear and earnest gaze, all his reasons seemed pale and powerless.
In the end, he could only give in, rubbing his temples, his voice tinged with helplessness: "It was my fault, you should take it back to your room and rest."
Mimi, held in Yuxiang's arms, was glancing at Qin Zhuo with her round cat eyes, her gaze filled with undisguised contempt and smugness.
Hmph, you're smart enough! So this man is jealous of me! How childish! It's all because I'm too outstanding.
"Mmm!" Yuxiang got a satisfactory answer, hugged Mimi, happily rubbed its fluffy head, and then ran back to her room.
Watching Youxiang's cheerful figure disappear into the distance, Qin Zhuo's expression softened slightly, but his gaze toward Chen Yunfei still carried a warning.
Chen Yunfei chuckled, quickly raised his hands in surrender, and then made a hasty escape.
Qin Zhuo stood there, helplessly rubbing his forehead.
He had inadvertently caught a glimpse of Mimi's two fluffy, slightly swaying little bells following behind Xiaoyouzi, and then he instinctively picked Mimi up.
Looking back now, it was just a male cat.
Qin Zhuo took a deep breath, trying to suppress the displeasure in his heart that even he himself found absurd.
The next day.
A car stopped not far from a university in H city.
Through the car window, Qin Zhuo and the others could see that the once bookish university campus had now become a paradise for zombies.
On the playground and along the tree-lined paths, one can see figures wandering around unsteadily.
Chen Yunfei put down his binoculars and clicked his tongue in amazement: "Damn, so many zombies! If we just go in like this to look for people, isn't that like lambs to the slaughter, delivering takeout to them?"
He looked at Qin Zhuo in the driver's seat, then secretly glanced at Qiao Yan, whose face was grave, in the passenger seat.
Qiao Yan's gaze was fixed on the window, her delicate brows furrowed, and her eyes filled with unyielding worry.
Is my sister at school?
A series of ominous premonitions surged in Qiao Yan's heart. She took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down.
She turned her head and looked at them in the car. "It's too dangerous here. I'll go in alone. This is my personal matter, and there's no need for you to take the risk with me."
"None of you should go in. I'll go in myself. Those are my kind. They won't hurt me."
Yuka made the suggestion with a serious expression.
Qin Zhuo rejected the idea almost immediately: "No. I'm worried about you going in alone."
Even though the zombies generally don't attack her unless provoked, there are exceptions.
Chen Yunfei stroked his chin, feeling that Youxiang's suggestion wasn't entirely unreasonable.
“But… what Xiaoyouzi said isn’t wrong either. Her special identity is indeed the best solution right now, isn’t it? At least it’s much safer than what we have.”
Qin Zhuo paused for a moment. He knew that what Chen Yunfei said was true, but he still couldn't feel at ease letting Youxiang go in alone.
Qiao Yan: "I'll go alone."
