Chapter 45 Asks Zombies Where Are the Humans?

Chapter 45 Asks Zombies Where Are the Humans?

"Stop talking, I'll go! I'm not all alone, I have Mimi with me, don't worry. Besides, zombies don't like to eat cats, so Mimi is safe."

As she spoke, she grabbed Mimi and lifted her high with both hands.

"Meow!!"

I'm not going! Absolutely not going!

Mimi wriggled her body in dissatisfaction, stretched out her pink little paws, and slapped Yuxiang's cheek with a "smack." The force wasn't great, but it was full of disgust.

Yu Xiang wasn't angry when she was patted. Instead, she happily grabbed Mimi's waving little paw and waved it at Qin Zhuo and Qiao Yan.

"Look, Mimi is happy to come with me too!"

Qin Zhuo, Qiao Yan, and Chen Yunfei: "..."

The three looked at each other in bewilderment.

They didn't realize it.

This is hardly a willingness; it's blatant resistance.

"Meow?"

How could I possibly be happy? Someone tell her I'm not happy at all!

In the end, after Youxiang pleaded and begged, even resorting to coquettishness and the small threat of "if you don't let me go, I'll go secretly by myself," Qin Zhuo and the others finally gave in and reluctantly agreed.

With a click, the car door was pushed open.

Yu Xiang carried her beloved little yellow duck bag, inside which was a photo of her younger sister, Qiao Yan.

She held Mimi tightly in her arms, whose face seemed to say "I'm forced to work," and walked step by step toward the perilous school entrance.

Inside the car.

After watching Youxiang's figure disappear through the school gate, Chen Yunfei couldn't help but turn to look at Qin Zhuo in the driver's seat.

"Brother Qin, I really didn't expect you to agree to let Xiaoyouzi go in alone this time. Don't you usually treat her like the apple of your eye?"

Qin Zhuo held an unlit cigarette between his fingers, his knuckles slightly white.

He gazed out the window in the direction where the fragrance of pomelo had vanished, his eyes deep and thoughtful.

"You saw how fiercely she threw a tantrum just now. I just didn't expect... she would be so persistent this time."

In the past, when faced with danger, this little pomelo would have been so frightened that it would have hidden behind him.

He paused for a moment, a complex emotion flashing across his eyes.

He can't always protect her under his wing; she has to learn to face some things on her own...

He trains her from time to time, isn't that why?

Right now, sending her, a zombie, in to find people is indeed the most rational and relatively lowest-risk option...

He could actually give up looking for her, since Qiao Yan's family wasn't important to him, but he knew Xiao Youzi wouldn't agree.

Despite understanding the reasoning, Qin Zhuo still felt a surge of unease and forcibly suppressed the worry welling up inside her.

Qiao Yan also stared in the direction where the fragrance of grapefruit had disappeared, her cool eyes filled with worry and gratitude, her hands unconsciously clenched into fists on her knees.

Little Yuzu didn't have to do this; it's all for her sake.

On campus.

Yuxiang walked unimpeded along the campus path.

Occasionally, a wandering zombie would notice her, its murky eyes merely scanning her blankly before indifferently looking away.

They could sense the presence of their kind on her, but they found this kind of person a bit strange, as she was actually holding a black cat.

As Yuka walked, she looked around at the staggering zombies, her brows furrowing slightly, appearing somewhat troubled.

She tilted her head and muttered softly, "Could one of these zombies be Yan Yan's sister? But..."

She looked at the zombies, some with disfigured faces and others with mutilated limbs, and her face fell.

"His face is so rotten, you can't recognize him at all!"

She saw a zombie and her eyes lit up.

"Hmm? This looks a bit like it!"

Upon closer inspection, the zombie let out a low growl, revealing a stubble-covered chin.

"Oh dear, it's a male corpse!"

Yu Xiang touched Mimi in her arms with disappointment and continued walking forward.

It seems she still has to start by searching among humans.

As she walked, she saw a zombie banging its head against the wall, and stopped, letting out two low growls: "Roar?"

Hello, have you seen any humans?

The zombie slowly turned around, its empty eye sockets fixed on Yuzuru, and roared from its throat: "Roar—Roar!!"

Humans? Where are the humans? They want to eat humans!

It roared and tried to pounce on Yuka, but stopped when it sensed the strong "kindred spirit" aura emanating from her, letting out a dissatisfied roar.

Yu Xiang's ears hurt a little from its roar. She shrank back and muttered under her breath, "Honestly, why are all my kind so unfriendly? They don't even know how to ask for directions..."

"Meow~"

Master, you actually asked where the zombie humans are? I really don't know what you're thinking.

Mimi's eyes were filled with disdain, as if to say, "Are you an idiot?"

Yu Xiang was completely unaware, holding Mimi, and continued to stride confidently and proudly toward the depths of the campus.

Half an hour later.

Qiao Yan, who had been staring intently out the window, suddenly focused her gaze!

Aren't those my sister's roommate and boyfriend?

She flung open the car door, rushed out, and ran wildly in their direction.

"Qiao Yan!" Upon seeing this, Chen Yunfei's heart tightened, and he instinctively wanted to chase after her.

He hurriedly opened the car door, one foot already out, but then suddenly stopped, turning back to look at Qin Zhuo, his tone anxious and questioning: "Brother Qin..."

Qin Zhuo said in a deep voice, "It's alright, go after them. Be careful and stay vigilant."

Having spent time together, he knew Qiao Yan's personality; she was definitely not someone who would lose her composure so easily.

"Okay!" Upon receiving the instruction, Chen Yunfei felt as if he had been granted a pardon and immediately took off after Qiao Yan in the direction she had left.

Inside a small supermarket.

The shelves were overturned, and various discarded packaging and debris were scattered on the ground. A strange smell of dust mixed with rotten food filled the air.

A man and a woman were hunched over, carefully searching among the messy shelves for any remaining supplies.

"Zihao, is there anything to eat in here?" The girl's name was Chen Ya, and she asked the boy next to her, Pan Zihao, in a low voice.

Pan Zihao impatiently rummaged through a broken cookie tin, and without even looking up, he snapped, "Stop talking nonsense! If we can't find anything to eat, we'll all starve to death here!"

Chen Ya shrank back at his shout and dared not say anything more, but silently rummaged through the scattered items on the ground.

She couldn't help but mutter under her breath, "If only Qiao Yue were still here... she always managed to find something to eat..."

The moment the name "Qiao Yue" was uttered, a cold voice rang out from behind.

"Chen Ya, Pan Zihao."

The two of them froze instantly!

Where is my sister?

Qiao Yan had already appeared behind them at some point, her face obscured by the backlight, making it impossible to discern her expression.

The sudden sound startled Chen Ya and Pan Zihao so much that they almost screamed, but their survival instincts made them cover their mouths tightly, afraid of attracting the zombies wandering nearby.

They turned around, and when they saw that it was Qiao Yan, a flash of panic and guilt crossed their eyes.

Qiao Yan took in every subtle change in their expressions.

She took a step closer. "You haven't seen Qiao Yue before?"

Chen Ya and Pan Zihao exchanged a glance.

Pan Zihao forced himself to remain calm and spoke first, "Never seen her. We lost contact with Qiao Yue after the incident at school and haven't seen her since."

Chen Ya nodded quickly and echoed, "Yes...yes, we really haven't seen Qiao Yue before."
