Carl continued, "Isn't it already the end of the world? What could be worse, more terrible?"
He easily opened the wine bottle, placed the cork and corkscrew on the empty space on the wine rack next to him, and tilted his head back to take a sip.
After taking a sip, he smacked his lips with a complicated expression and muttered:
"No wonder this winery went out of business; the taste really wasn't good."
Just then, Gavin's eerie voice suddenly came.
"Carl, we're all going to die."
Carl's hand, holding the bottle, paused in mid-air. He hesitated for a moment, his eyes lowered, his exceptionally long, curled eyelashes concealing the deep, dark depths within his green eyes.
Carl then laughed again, this time with a hint of relief and satisfaction. He looked at Gavin, his tone relaxed and indifferent.
"Of course, everyone will die sooner or later. If it weren't for her, we might already be dead. The time we have now is a bonus."
As he spoke, he raised the bottle to Gavin, gesturing for him to clink glasses.
Gavin gripped the bottle tightly, his already pale and bony hands becoming even more bloodless.
He stubbornly refused to cooperate with Carl's action, muttering something in a somewhat complaining tone.
"Knowing full well that there would be no result."
Carl withdrew his hand from the bottle, patted Gavin's shoulder with his other hand, and said reassuringly:
"I knew that, so I never thought I needed a result."
Carl then changed the subject, asking, "You have the ability to foresee the future?"
Gavin shook his head, looking somewhat confused. He scratched his hair in frustration.
"I don't know what to call it. Ever since I awakened my superpower, I've been seeing strange things from time to time."
"At first I thought it was my imagination, but when I returned to Y country this time, some scenes were exactly the same as what I had seen before, so I think it must be true."
As he spoke, he turned to look at Carl, somewhat puzzled, and asked:
"I can't control it yet. It appears very randomly. Sometimes it's in my dreams, and sometimes it's just a random image flashing through my mind whenever I'm doing something."
After our conversation, Carl had a pretty good idea, but it was still quite surprising to hear Gavin say it out loud.
He nodded, then asked thoughtfully:
"So what did you see that makes you afraid we'll fall for her?"
Gavin had initially shifted his attention, but when this topic came up, his expression became serious again, filled with worry and tension.
He gripped the bottle neck, tilted his head back, and took a big gulp of red wine, as if to give himself courage and determination.
After taking a sip of his drink, he stared at the wine rack opposite him, his eyes unfocused, lost in memories, and slowly began to speak:
"The night I awakened my superpower, after we showered, we all went to Sister Xin's room. I experimented with my healing superpower on the falcon."
My powers were severely depleted, and I felt a little dizzy when I stood up. It was then that a scene suddenly flashed into my mind.
"Green leaves were falling from the sky like rain. The leaves drifted down with the wind and turned into a puddle of green liquid the moment they hit the ground. The liquid was corrosive and would quickly dissolve upon contact with even a little bit."
"I didn't think much of it at the time, but when I went to sleep that night, I had another dream, and the scene in the dream was exactly the same as that scene."
"However, this time it's very clear that the entire planet is being corrupted—buildings, humans, including zombies... everything."
"I saw Sister Xin in my dream. She was floating in mid-air, wearing a red dress, like the ancient costume of the Chinese nation. She was very beautiful."
"Across from her stood a man dressed in green with long white hair, and the green leaves were coming from him."
Carl frowned upon hearing this, but still didn't interrupt Gavin and continued listening.
Immediately afterwards, Gavin trembled, his eyes filled with horror and fear.
Carl noticed something was wrong and asked with concern, "What's wrong?"
Gavin immediately composed himself, shook his head, raised the bottle again, took a sip of the drink, and, after calming himself down, continued:
"He saw me."
He turned to look at Carl and emphasized very seriously,
"Boss, he saw me. At that moment, I could clearly feel his gaze as we made eye contact. His eyes were icy cold. Just that one look made me feel like my blood had frozen."
"I could see the hostility in his eyes, along with a strong killing intent. After a moment of eye contact, I woke up."
"After that, I never saw any images of him again, and even... his appearance gradually became blurry. I have now forgotten what he looked like. The only things I can remember are his green clothes, long white hair, and those eyes."
After saying this, Gavin's emotions visibly calmed down, and he spoke with increasing ease as he continued.
"After that, intermittently, I saw things related to us. For example, the flock of birds we encountered on the plane back to Y country, and the zombie siege on the streets of El after we returned..."
After listening to his account of recent events, Carl realized he was still hiding something, shrugged slightly, and asked in confusion:
"This doesn't seem to have anything to do with you stopping us from liking her."
Upon hearing this, Gavin hesitated again and did not reply immediately.
Carl, however, had a guess. He raised his bottle and bumped it against Gavin's, making a crisp sound.
“We can talk about this.”
Gavin glanced down at the bottle in his hand. Carl, who was next to him, had already finished speaking and started drinking his own wine.
Gavin pursed his lips, gripped the neck of the bottle with his left hand, and brought it to his chest.
"She killed you all."
After saying that, as if trying to escape, he quickly raised his glass and drank it down.
Carl, who was standing next to him, was still stunned and surprised after hearing this.
Gavin drank too quickly, choked on his wine, spilled a lot of red wine on his chest, soaked his collar, and coughed incessantly, looking rather disheveled.
Carl had considered many possible causes of death, but he never imagined it would be her. He was puzzled.
"Why?"
"It was a forest. The trees were strange. There were many of them, densely packed, but none of them had leaves. They were all just dry trunks, like dead trees."
"I saw her reach into your chest and pull out your heart."
Carl, like an outsider, didn't react much after hearing the story. His right hand unconsciously covered his chest, his thumb rubbing against the texture of the fabric on his clothes.
"Where are the pigeons?"
"In a very simple operating room, Pigeon was tied to the bed. She held a scalpel and asked him again, 'Why?' Pigeon foolishly replied, 'Because of love.'"
At this point, Gavin scoffed and laughed.
"Ha, that idiot, his head's been pried open and he's still smiling, a love-struck fool."
