Chapter 192 Excuses We All Need

Carl remained silent, his feelings a complex mix.

Having said it all, Gavin felt much relieved and let out a long sigh of relief.

"Actually, I also think she's pretty good, but I can't deny that none of us really know her."

He smiled slightly as he spoke, turning his head to look at Carl.

"The pigeon is right. I really don't understand what liking or loving is. I used to think she was perfect and suitable to be my most treasured possession, but unfortunately she is too strong."

Gavin acted recklessly because he knew how strong Li Xin'er was; if she really wanted to kill them, no one could stop her.

So all he could do was try his best to prevent them from developing feelings for her, and perhaps the outcome would be different. That was the only thing he could do.

Carl remained silent for a long time before speaking: "It's just one side of the story; perhaps it's not what you think."

Gavin deeply understands his current avoidance; he had thought the same way before, which is why he hadn't said anything.

It was only later, as some things gradually matched what he had seen, that he slowly and reluctantly accepted it.

All of this takes time. Gavin didn't rush to refute it at this moment, but instead nodded in agreement.

"That's true, there might be other reasons as well."

After saying this, the two of them suddenly fell silent for a long while.

Perhaps both of them need an excuse to deceive themselves right now.

The wine cellar was quiet, and even the dim light seemed restless.

Finally, Carl finished his last sip of red wine first, patted Gavin on the shoulder, and comforted him:

"Don't overthink it. If anything happens in the future, you can tell us and we can discuss it. If you don't want to tell anyone else for the time being, I can keep this a secret for you."

Gavin shook his head. "No need. They should know too."

Since the leader already knows, the others should know too. Even if it can't change the outcome, it's good to give them some mental preparation.

Looking back now, I realize that things might have changed if he had told the truth.

For example, Pigeon, he probably hasn't gone to that extent of being love-struck yet, right?

Seeing that Carl had already made up his mind, and not intending to interfere with his decision, Carl stood up.

"Okay, then you can say it yourself."

"Um."

As the two left the wine cellar, the matter came into the public eye for their regular operations team.

In the S City base of the Flower Country.

When Li Xin'er woke up, it was already past lunchtime. She ate the dishes that Chef Sun had just made for her, while listening to the gossip that Ge Qiuxia had heard from various parts of the base.

"Today, the survivors who were previously staying in the dormitory buildings have been moved out to the safe zone outside the base."

"Now, all those left at the base are government personnel, oh right."

As she spoke, Ge Qiuxia lowered her voice and leaned her head closer to Li Xin'er.

Li Xin'er's eyes lit up. Based on past experience, this action meant there was some big news!

Then Ge Qiuxia said, "Guess who I saw when I went out this morning?"

Li Xin'er was quite cooperative and eagerly asked, "Who?"

"The woman who stole Ranran's food before, Yu Chunhua!"

The moment the topic of stealing food came up, Li Xin'er remembered this person; she had completely forgotten about him.

"I haven't seen you for days, you've lost so much weight, you look like a completely different person. This morning you were making a scene on the parade ground, clinging to your tent and refusing to leave, crying and throwing a tantrum, saying you'd be beaten to death if you left the base, and you'd rather die than leave..."

Upon hearing about the tent area, Li Xin'er asked in confusion, "Isn't she staying in the dormitory building?"

“I heard from people around me that her husband and son were originally with the search and rescue team at the base and had a job moving bodies, but because she often caused trouble for the management or for some other reason, they were canceled.”

"She and her mother-in-law were also moved from the dormitory to the tent area. Their family got one tent, and life wasn't easy for this woman..."

As Li Xin'er listened, the sinister expression on Assistant Wang's face when he looked at Yu Chunhua in the dormitory that day came to mind.

Li Xin'er doesn't believe that she was targeted like this without Assistant Wang's intervention.

As she spoke, Ge Qiuxia began to talk about other things.

"A little while ago this morning, a satellite fell from the sky. It was terrifying. Luckily, it didn't land here. The signal disappeared around that time. Everyone is saying that the communication is completely cut off and can't be repaired."

Li Xin'er already knew that the signal wouldn't last long, but she didn't expect it to be so fast, though she didn't react much.

"Oh, and Mr. Lu sent people over several times, saying there were vacant houses up ahead and asking if we wanted to move there. Since you weren't awake, I couldn't give you a direct answer, so I just told you to get back to me when you wake up later."

Li Xin'er nodded. Now that the base had been cleared out, it was inevitable that houses would be vacated, but she didn't plan to move.

"Okay, then go ahead and tell them we won't be moving."

Not to mention that she won't be able to stay there for long, judging from the houses in front, they might not be as comfortable as her RV.

Ge Qiuxia certainly had no objection to Li Xin'er's decision. Besides, she had lived in the previous dormitory and knew about its decor and environment. It was incomparable to Li Xin'er's luxurious RV.

"Okay, I'll go right now."

As she spoke, Ge Qiuxia got up in a hurry, got out of the RV, greeted Mr. Sun who was sunbathing outside, and asked him to keep an eye on the two children playing.

Li Xin'er had just finished eating and stepped out of the RV when she saw Ge Qiuxia return, accompanied by Lu Chen, Lu Jin'an, and Assistant Wang.

"Miss Xin, are you sunbathing? The sun is really nice today. This winter isn't as cold as in previous years. I've been to S City in winter before, but it's not as warm as Kyoto."

Lu Chen smiled and walked closer to Li Xin'er as he spoke.

He approached, stopped at a suitable social distance from Li Xin'er, composed himself, and sighed with some worry:

"It's probably snowing in Kyoto by now, but unfortunately all communications are down today, so we can't get in touch with them for the time being."

The phrase "It's snowing" suddenly reminded Li Xin'er of something she had overlooked.

In the novel, around this time, blizzards swept the globe, and temperatures plummeted to minus 20 or 30 degrees Celsius. It was also from this point that global temperatures became uniform.

Not only that, during the apocalypse, there were many such natural disasters, such as hail, torrential rain and floods, extreme heat, polar night... Li Xin'er didn't take these seriously before, because they didn't have much impact on her.

But now, thinking about it all together, Li Xin'er realized that every disaster occurred during a period when the zombies were fully upgraded!

"Miss Xin?"

Seeing that Li Xin'er hadn't spoken and seemed to be lost in thought, Lu Chen called her name again.

Li Xin'er snapped out of her reverie and slowly looked up at the sun in the sky. It shone with a somewhat dazzling golden halo, and the temperature was indeed warm and comfortable.

She parted her thin lips slightly and asked in a calm voice, "Have the medicines been counted? Are the numbers correct?"
