Chapter 13: Friends
The dinner looked very sumptuous. Qin Shiyu held a bottle of Coke, sat cross-legged obediently on the side, and drank it with a satisfied look on his face.
I guess you know that the adults at home don’t let me drink this kind of carbonated beverage.
Xu Zhiyang smiled and said, "Don't drink too much."
Qin Shiyu bit the straw and smiled, "Okay."
"Come, come, sit down and have dinner!"
Li Huiyin arranged a nice place. The cashier counter of this supermarket is against the corner of the wall. It is quite large, with glass on one side and a wall on the other. The rest of the space is half surrounded by the long cashier counter with a corner.
It looks very safe and is better than sitting directly next to the shelf.
Having not eaten such a sumptuous meal since the end of the world, Li Huiyin really ate to her heart's content this time, holding a chicken leg in each hand and with a few cans of opened beer beside her.
Xu Zhiyang quietly replaced the beer for her with fruit wine. He was close to Li Huiyin and thought no one noticed, but when he looked up, he saw Qin Shiyu's bright eyes looking at him.
Xu Zhiyang was stunned for two seconds, then smiled and shook his head.
Qin Shiyu didn't say anything, looked away and continued eating.
Zhu Ci ate quickly, picked up his backpack and said, "I'll keep watch tonight, you guys rest, and we'll set off early tomorrow."
Xu Zhiyang said, "I'll take over from you in the second half of the night."
"It's up to you." Zhu Ci found a suitable place to sit at the door. He could turn sideways and see what was happening outside through the gap in the curtains.
After finishing the dinner, Li Huiyin took a backpack and packed a lot of food. Because of her special ability, her strength seemed to have increased, and she didn't feel the weight of a bag of canned food when she carried it.
It was already very late by the time the sound of rummaging in the house stopped. Xu Zhiyang, Li Huiyin and Qin Shiyu were lying in a row.
Listening to the other two people's breathing gradually becoming longer, Xu Zhiyang turned over but still couldn't fall asleep, so he had no choice but to sit up.
He subconsciously looked in the direction of Zhu Ci and saw that Zhu Ci was wiping a gun carefully. Xu Zhiyang simply stood up and went over.
"I'm not sleepy. You go and rest first?" Xu Zhiyang sat down next to Zhu Ci, with some distance between them.
Zhu Ci glanced at him coldly and said, "You are unreliable. If you fall asleep, we will be in danger."
"..." Xu Zhiyang thought she was quite reliable, but she was too lazy to refute it now, so she directly asked the doubts that had been weighing on her mind for days.
"Speaking of which, why don't we see many mutated plants and animals even though we're at the edge of the city?"
Zhu Ci had discovered this earlier. He paused and said, "It's very likely that only the flora and fauna in the city center mutated during the first earthquake. As for why there were no plant mutations on the city's edge, it's truly puzzling."
Xu Zhiyang hummed, remained silent for a few seconds, and then said, "I have that bad feeling again."
"Do you really have the ability to predict the future?" Zhu Ci looked at Xu Zhiyang with a strange look, probably because he didn't expect that the boy in front of him had such diverse abilities.
Can't we just unify and bring it together?
"Uh... strictly speaking, not really." Xu Zhiyang smiled friendly, "I'm just more sensitive than others."
What Xu Zhiyang was really worried about was the differences between her previous life and this one.
In my previous life, I also took the highway to the north, but at that time the trees and weeds on both sides were as tall as a primeval forest.
In this life, there was no movement on the edge of the city, which was terrifying to think about.
"What are you thinking about?" Zhu Ci asked suddenly.
Xu Zhiyang let out a light breath, and his head rested against the glass with a soft "bang" sound.
"I always feel like everything is not over yet, as if the world is going to get worse..."
"Are you scared?"
Xu Zhiyang laughed when he heard that, then turned his head to glance at Zhu Ci, "It's not bad. After all, no one wants to die. Everyone wants to live."
"You won't die, don't overthink it." Zhu Ci paused for a moment and then said, "Since we're already working together, I'll help you if you're in danger. After all, we're also friends."
Xu Zhiyang laughed and lowered her voice, "Why do you say 'friend' so reluctantly?"
Zhu Ci looked away a little unnaturally and handed over the gun in his hand that he had wiped clean.
"What's wrong?" Xu Zhiyang took it and took a look at it, rubbing his fingertips across a tiny engraved word on it.
It should be the name of the congratulation.
"Take it for self-defense." Zhu Ci said.
Xu Zhiyang was a little surprised. This gun was very important to Zhu Ci. He lost it while on a mission in his previous life, and he went back to look for it for a long time.
Maybe this is the only gun he has. If there is another one, he will definitely not be willing to give it away. Xu Zhiyang laughed and threw the gun back into Zhu Ci's arms.
"No need. Mr. Zhu's wind power is so powerful that a casual wave of his hand is more powerful than a gun. Besides, I don't know how to use it. It will be wasted."
Zhu Ci frowned and stared at Xu Zhiyang for a while, as if he was really confused. He asked seriously, "You have a cute face, why do you have such a bad temper?"
Xu Zhiyang looked innocent: "What did I say?"
"You only call me Mr. Zhu when you are unhappy."
Seeing that he was asking seriously, Xu Zhiyang couldn't help laughing. She turned her face away and said nothing, only her shoulders trembling.
On the other side, the two people who were not asleep looked at each other.
Qin Shiyu whispered, "Sister, what are the brothers doing?"
Li Huiyin hissed, "Cover your ears and don't listen. This is not suitable for children."
"It's already three o'clock in the morning. I'll keep watch and you can rest." Xu Zhiyang smiled enough and turned around.
Zhu Ci didn't refuse anymore. He nodded and was about to stand up, but was suddenly grabbed by Xu Zhiyang, "There's something outside!"
"Rustle, rustle..."
A faint sound of an animal crawling came from afar, gradually getting closer and closer. The sound was very clear in the silent night.
Xu Zhiyang wanted to speak up to remind Li Huiyin, but when she opened her mouth, she was afraid that the thing outside would hear her, so she swallowed her words back.
At this time, a hand came over and covered Xu Zhiyang's mouth.
“…”
Xu Zhiyang looked at the person squatting in front of him in confusion.
I have to say it, but Xu Zhiyang really wants to ask, brother, have you washed your hands?
"Sizzle—"
The glass was scratched by something sharp.
Xu Zhiyang froze and dared not move.
It was like two rows of huge sharp needles hitting the glass back and forth, making a non-stop "da da da" sound and slowly moving upwards.
Xu Zhiyang was too familiar with this sound, whether it was hitting the iron door or the glass.
I wanted to listen more carefully, and at this moment, Zhu Ci moved.
Zhu Ci grabbed the sunshade with his fingers, and Xu Zhiyang immediately opened his mouth and bit Zhu Ci lightly, staring at him.
This sunshade is different from ordinary curtains. If you pull one corner of the sunshade, the whole thing will shake. If something outside finds out there is any movement in the house, it will definitely rush in!
Zhu Ci frowned as he was bitten, but he didn't struggle. He still gently pulled open a corner of the sunshade and looked outside through the gap.
Xu Zhiyang noticed that Zhu Ci's whole body stiffened, and he carefully lowered the sunshade again.
Seeing that Zhu Ci didn't move at all and didn't even look at her, Xu Zhiyang was a little curious, so she blew gently into Zhu Ci's palm.
