Chapter 4 Changing Materials

Chapter 4 Changing Materials

Today's harvest was quite good, especially considering the doubled resources for new players.

Apples*4, Bananas*9, Pancakes*16, Sausages*4, Wood*90, Nails*10, Pillows*2, Toothpaste*6, Toothbrushes*4, Porcelain Bowls*4, Sports Hoodie Set (Gray)*2, Wooden Stick*1, Stones*120, Weeds*96, Plastics*14, Mechanical Parts*8, Electronic Components*4, Scrap Iron*8.

These are all the supplies I scavenged this afternoon. I also went back to the base to store supplies. Each of my 10 backpack slots can only hold 10 different types of supplies at a time.

All items are stored in the warehouse, and transactions in the store will be directly transferred from the warehouse to the buyer.

We're still far from having enough materials to upgrade the base, but we can make the condenser and workbench with a few more materials.

[Basic Condenser Blueprint: 7 Mechanical Parts, 5 Nails, 30 Plastic Components, 5 Electronic Components, 10 Scrap Iron]

[Workbench Blueprint: Scrap Iron*50, Plastic*21, Mechanical Parts*10, Wood*12, Nails*15, Batteries*6.]

The workbench can create basic tools without blueprints, forming the foundation of infrastructure.

Condensers can condense water, be used by the user, or sold to exchange for materials.

The only downside is that both of these drawings were disposable.

The in-game store is a place for players to sell and trade resources.

Jiang Baiyue went directly to the shop to search for the missing materials, but when she switched to the shop page, there were only a few player shops on the entire page.

They were all looking to buy water and food.

She clicked on the shop's message about not using an umbrella in the rain and sent it a private message.

"Lying-down salted fish: Do you have any plastic? I can trade you bananas."

The other side replied quickly, probably having been watching the game panel the whole time.

"Rainy day without an umbrella: How many bananas can you give me?"

Not using an umbrella on a rainy day is really unlucky. My friend was with her at the hospital when she was about to have a tooth pulled, but the doctor disappeared.

In the blink of an eye, she found herself in an unfamiliar place, surrounded by a group of zombies. She could only keep running, initially calling for help, but after running for a long time, she found no one and had to rely on herself.

After escaping, they calmed down and began scavenging for supplies, even turning over a dozen trash cans, only to find food scraps, fish bones, apple cores, spoiled lunch boxes, and so on.

"Lying Flat (a derogatory term for a lazy, unambitious person): I need plastic, electronic components, and scrap metal. How many portions can you provide?"

Seeing the person across from me say this while not using an umbrella in the rain, I felt a surge of excitement, realizing they had a lot of food.

She was completely numb. As soon as the purchase request was set up, she received many private messages. At first, she felt that there was still genuine human kindness in the world.

They were all scammers! What a waste of her time.

"Rainy Day Without an Umbrella: 16 plastic items, 2 electronic components, 5 scrap metal. You can have them all if you want. How many bananas can you give me? Other food is fine too. Do you have any water?"

"Lying Down Like a Salted Fish: 2 bunches of bananas? A bunch of bananas has 6 bananas. Each banana reduces hunger by 3 points and increases stamina by 2 points."

Since there are no blueprints available at the beginning, these materials are not needed for the time being. If the other party has blueprints, then we should be able to negotiate a price.

However, even with blueprints, you can't make anything without a workbench.

She gave him two bunches of bananas, just to test the waters.

Unexpectedly, the other party agreed within seconds and initiated the transaction.

Jiang Baiyue took two bunches of bananas and handed them to the trade window. After clicking "confirm," the supplies on the other end were placed into her backpack.

The game has become reality, and trading is no longer as casual as it used to be. Prices are chaotic and unclear, making it easy to exchange more for less, and vice versa.

She herself was unsure what a reasonable price would be.

Condenser making requires a workbench, so Jiang Baiyue also set up her own shop to purchase materials and posted in two discussion areas.

"Lying Flat and Salty Fish: @Everyone, food for materials, or private message me in the shop for transactions."

"Tian Tian Xiang Xia: I'm so envious. Some people have so much food that they can take it out to exchange, while I don't even have enough to eat and I'm barely half full and still hungry."

"Expert Talk: Has this big shot become so rich? He can even open a shop now."

"153: I'm so envious! 50% tax, the stuff they sell can't be very expensive, right?"

"fofo: Hehe, I'm so hungry I'm dizzy. Don't fight me for it, give me a chance to live."

"153: That's really cheap! What a generous guy!"

...

Tax?

Jiang Baiyue didn't see a prompt to pay taxes when she set up her shop.

However, many people were short of food, and Jiang Baiyue's private message notification kept ringing for a minute or two.

She temporarily set aside her doubts and began to check her private messages.

Jiang Baiyue started looking at the first one, but this person wanted to steal her for free and even added a disgusting kiss as a bonus.

Ignoring all those who wanted to steal information for free, she focused on her serious trades with others.

After two hours of hard work, she finally obtained enough materials to make the workbench.

They traded away 10 flatbreads, 2 sausages, 1 can of tuna, and a snack gift pack.

[Player has materials to craft a crafting table. Do you want to craft the table?]

"yes."

As soon as she finished speaking, a series of clanging and clattering sounds, along with the clanging of metal and various other noises, rang in her ears.

Five minutes later, a table resembling an experimental bench appeared in front of her.

Jiang Baiyue placed the blueprints for the primary condenser on the workbench.

[Player has been detected to possess materials for crafting a basic water-condensing device. Craft a basic water-condensing device?]

"Making".

A cloud of white mist enveloped the workbench surface, leaving only the edges visible.

Jiang Baiyue glanced at the production time displayed on the edge of the workbench—00:59:59.

...

A restaurant surrounded by sandbags and wire mesh on a dark street.

A woman held a little girl tightly in one arm and a wooden stick in the other, cautiously observing her surroundings to see if any zombies were rushing towards her.

"Baby, don't talk. Wait until Mommy finds some food before you eat."

"Mom, I didn't say anything."

The woman turned to stare into her daughter's big, round eyes, and felt a chill creep up her spine.

The little girl felt uneasy. She didn't know what to do. Her father was gone, and her mother was all alone to face so many terrible monsters.

She could only feel safe by hugging her mother's neck with her own hands and feeling the warmth of her mother's neck.

The woman leaned her head against her daughter's small head, which smelled of shampoo, and a surge of strength welled up inside her. She couldn't let anything happen to her, otherwise how would her daughter survive in this strange world?

However, the woman heard strange voices again, which sounded like her daughter's homeroom teacher, her daughter's cute and greedy classmate, and even her daughter's father!

The woman suddenly stood up: "Tiangang! Tiangang! Where are you? My baby and I are looking for you..."

The little girl was suddenly pushed away by her mother and sat down on the ground with a thud. She felt wronged and wanted to cry, but then she heard her mother hysterically crying and calling for her.

She wiped away her tears, stood up, and was about to chase after her mother to comfort her.

"Mommy, baby's here..."

"Huff, Mom...you ran too fast..."

The little girl didn't know why, even though she couldn't hear her father's voice, her mother was still calling for her father to come out quickly.

She ran as fast as she could, but all she saw was her mother running further and further away until she could no longer see her mother's figure in the dark street.

The little girl nervously clutched her clothes. Then she remembered that she was holding a flashlight. She pressed the switch, and a bright yellow beam of light pierced the darkness.

She pouted, feeling wronged, and despite the pain in her feet, she searched in the direction where her mother had disappeared.

Seeing the monster from afar, she remembered her mother's instructions and avoided it.

However, the little girl was unaware that she was gradually straying from her path.

"Mother--!"

"Mom, Mom—Mom!"
