Chapter 28 Underground Laboratory
Sui Cheng tilted her head, avoiding his hand. Her face was expressionless, but her ears were already bright red. The moment the car door opened, Lu Zhi thought his answer was negative and was still feeling disappointed.
But the next second, the voice of the attendant came from outside.
Do you think I'm the kind of person who lets people touch me or harass me at will?
Lu Zhi was stunned for several seconds. When he saw the back of the person accompanying him through the car window, he leaned down and chuckled softly.
"You're just saying that." Lu Zhi quickly got out of the car and walked to the side of his passenger.
The passenger didn't look at him, but just waved and said, "Let's find a place to park, then take our things and walk over."
"Okay." Lu Zhi's voice sounded like he was in a good mood, with a pleasant lilt at the end.
The gap wasn't long; they could jump across it. The road ahead was completely ruins, with lush, vibrant green grass growing on the collapsed buildings.
The ground was muddy and there were no other footprints. Sui Cheng suspected that he had taken the wrong road and ended up here. Logically speaking, there should be a main road that leads directly to the west of the city.
Thinking of this, Sui Cheng glared at Lu Zhi, still blaming him for talking so much on the way.
Lu Zhi was puzzled by his gaze, blinked, and asked, "What's wrong?"
The passenger said with a stern face, "From now on, speak less when I'm driving."
The lawyer looked aggrieved: "Are you saying you're disgusted with me?"
"Is there even a need to ask?" the passenger retorted.
Lu Zhi felt even more aggrieved and muttered under his breath, "Men are so fickle. He just said he liked me."
Sui Cheng paused, speechless, and said, "When did I say I liked you?"
He didn't actually say it, but the law enforcement officer automatically changed his answer from "I like it" to "I like it".
"Chengcheng, you're such a hypocrite!" Lu Zhi put his arm around Suicheng's shoulder, and Suicheng didn't bother to push him away.
The air-raid shelter was located near a mountain, but fortunately, their parking spot wasn't far away.
A strange smell wafted from the dark cave entrance.
"It's like tear gas." The passenger covered his nose; although the gas wasn't strong, it still had a pungent smell in the air.
Achoo, achoo!
Achoo!
Lu Zhi sneezed several times in a row, and his eyes were red and swollen, as if he had been crying.
He covered his mouth and nose and mumbled, "This is to drive away the alien species, isn't it?"
"Um."
The presence of this smell here is enough to make one suspect that something is wrong with this place.
“Someone’s there.” Lu Zhi pulled his attendant back and led him to a secluded corner where they hid. A vine grew from the ground beneath their feet, wrapping around them and concealing them.
Sui Cheng glanced at the leaves on the vine; they were triangular, emerald green, and resembled an ivy plant.
Light footsteps came from inside the air-raid shelter, and then three figures emerged. They were all wearing gas masks, which covered their faces, and their voices were not very clear.
"You said there are people outside? Where are they?" The person walking in front asked impatiently.
The person on the left quickly stepped forward, looking around, "I clearly felt it."
"We can't take any chances, Ye Tong. Let's search the area." The last person was taller and had a more composed voice.
At first, the man was reluctant, but he still obeyed and began searching the surroundings.
Their location was concealed, but being hidden by vines was still too conspicuous.
He looked up at Lu Zhi's expression and saw Lu Zhi wink at him, silently reassuring him.
Sui Cheng's heart inexplicably calmed down.
Lu Zhi hugged the waist of the person in his arms tightly. He was already taller than Sui Cheng, estimated to be over 190 cm. He usually looked like he had legs longer than his life, but now he was huddled in this corner, looking rather aggrieved.
“They’ve gone far away, should we go in and take a look?” Lu Zhi lowered his head and touched Sui Cheng’s ear, resisting the urge to bite it.
Sui Cheng thought about it for a moment and realized that since they were already there, it would be a shame not to go in and take a look.
"Let's go." He stepped out of Lu Zhi's arms, rubbed his burning ears, and carefully walked inside.
"Slow down, don't get caught."
Lu Zhi wrapped vines around his wrists, connecting them together. Not satisfied, he directly grasped Sui Cheng's hand. When Sui Cheng struggled, Lu Zhi gripped even tighter, his fingers weaving into Sui Cheng's, their ten fingers intertwined.
"Don't move, it's safer this way." The lawyer's attitude was forceful.
The attendant was busy observing his surroundings, so he let him be.
After walking about 300 meters, the air-raid shelter seemed to have changed completely, with defensive mechanisms and infrared scanners everywhere.
Sui Cheng spotted the red dot on the surveillance camera, led Lu Zhi away from the camera's range, and then flicked a small lightning bolt, directly cutting off the camera's power.
“This place looks suspicious no matter how you look at it; it might be the place we’re looking for,” the attendant whispered. “But the defenses ahead are tight, and we could easily be discovered.”
"Then let me do it." Lu Zhi squeezed his palm, and the vines seemed ready to move.
"No rush," the attendant stopped him.
It's not certain whether the psychic who discovered the Law Enforcement Vine next to Du Jianshu is inside. If he is discovered, he might vomit blood again.
Lu Zhi raised an eyebrow, guessing that he was worried about him. He felt a sweet warmth in his heart and wished he could pull the man into his arms.
Sui Cheng used his supernatural abilities to destroy the infrared beams, and before the three people returned, he led Lu Zhi further inside.
A light appeared not far ahead, and there were also many strange noises.
"Wait a minute." Lu Zhi saw a ventilation duct overhead. He pointed at it, and after Sui Cheng nodded, he used vines to open the iron plate, then jumped up and glanced at the width.
The ventilation duct is wide and deep enough to accommodate them.
The officer went up first, and only after confirming that there was no danger did he allow his attendants to board.
They climbed down the pipe and went inside to the next one. When they reached the pipe entrance, the scene below had changed.
The original air-raid shelter was modified and divided into a series of metal-enclosed rooms; the one below where Lu Zhi and his team were located looked more like a laboratory.
The cold experimental equipment and the focused researchers were oblivious to the two pairs of eyes watching them from above.
"Woo-hoo!" A howl from an animal rang out.
Lu Zhi glanced at his attendant, then crawled toward the source of the sound.
Upon reaching the next pipe entrance, they saw cages made of special metal containing various alien species. Some lay listlessly in their cages, while others, perhaps newly captured, were frantically banging against the cages.
To our surprise, they actually found the right place.
“哢”.
The door outside opened, revealing three superhumans wearing gas masks who had just been searching for people outside the air-raid shelter.
"I told you there was no one there, but you didn't believe me." The person who spoke with disdain picked up a stun gun and struck the alien that was constantly banging against the cage and howling.
The alien was immediately stunned by the electric shock.
Seeing his actions, another person couldn't help but remind him, "Don't mess it up, this just arrived."
"Yesterday, we received news that one of our men was killed and the crystal core is missing. Have they found out who did it?"
"No, there were no residual supernatural abilities on the corpse, so it cannot be confirmed."
