Chapter 27 A Little Bit of Love
Generally, higher-level species have a strong sense of territory. From the moment they develop self-awareness, they forcibly claim a territory and do not allow other species to approach. This is especially true for higher-level animal species, whose territoriality is even stronger. However, unlike plant species, they also recruit followers; the higher-level species in Hibiscus City is an example of this.
Feeling a little guilty under the watchful eyes of the attendant, the law enforcement officer touched his nose and decided to find a way to divert his attention.
He swiftly wrapped his arm around the attendant's waist, laid him down on the bed, and said in a deep voice, "Are you injured?"
Sui Cheng was about to resist, but upon hearing this, he stopped what he was doing and explained, "After all, the rumors say that I was injured. If I didn't actually get injured, people would be suspicious."
Lu Zhi frowned, placed his palm on his chest, and a light green light shone.
Sui Cheng shifted uncomfortably, feeling his chest pressed against the other's hand, enveloped in a warm, green light.
"Are you done?"
Lu Zhi met his gaze, a faint smile in his eyes. Not only did he not withdraw his hand, but he also squeezed it slightly, teasingly saying, "So soft, just like the captain."
With a "snap".
Sui Cheng slapped Lu Zhi across the face, not too hard but not too light. Not only did it not dispel Lu Zhi's licentious thoughts, it also made him feel good.
Lu Zhi rubbed his cheek and the spot where he had been hit. Instead of being angry, he laughed and said, "It seems that Chengcheng still can't bear to hurt me. She didn't even use her superpower."
"Lawyer, are you a masochist?" Sui Cheng's worldview was once again shattered by him.
"Letting you hit me won't hurt me," Lu Zhi said matter-of-factly. "If I touch you and you hit me, does that mean I can continue even after you hit me?"
Accompanying passenger: "..."
He was truly terrified of this person. What a masochist, pervert, and lewd man! What a waste of that face.
"Get up." Sui Cheng nudged him with his knee, his superpower already ready to be unleashed. If Lu Zhi didn't move aside, he would attack directly.
"Hmm..." Lu Zhi reluctantly let go of him, sat on the edge of the bed and asked, "Now that the crystal core issue has been resolved, when are we going back to the base?"
"It's not over yet." Sui Cheng rubbed his chest, still faintly feeling the warmth of Lu Zhi's palm.
They came here not for the crystal core, but for the alien species.
The attendant took a map of Yancheng from his supply bag and circled several locations. "These places have been searched, and nothing unusual was found."
Because a river runs through the middle of Yancheng, the human camps are on the east side of the river, while only those with supernatural abilities go to the west side to try their luck and see if any new mutants are born.
"We'll go here tomorrow."
The area circled is an underground air-raid shelter on the west side of the river.
Early the next morning, Sui Cheng and Lu Zhi drove to Hexi.
Throughout the journey, Lv Zhi yawned several times, but still couldn't resist falling asleep against the car window.
Sui Cheng thought to himself, "Did they go to become ghosts tonight?"
"Are we almost there?" Lu Zhi opened his eyes, all sleepiness gone. He opened the car window, and a cool breeze swept in.
They were on the bridge, below which the river was clear and calm, and the riverbank was covered with withered vines that seemed to have taken root in the entire embankment.
"Were there any advanced species here before?" Lawyer asked.
Sui Cheng nodded: "Yes, and more than one. After all, Yancheng used to be a famous garden city. After the plants were infected, half the city was instantly overrun. Why are you suddenly asking this?"
Lu Zhi pointed to the withered vines on the riverbank and said slowly, "The vines are dense, and the roots must have spread to the entire riverbank. How was this high-level species killed?"
Sui Cheng thought about it. He wasn't in Yancheng at the time. He only heard about it from the special forces later. It was Bai Xuefeng who solved it. That battle caused his superpowers to be exhausted, and he was unconscious for half a month before waking up.
"It's him again." Lu Zhi felt that this person's name appeared far too frequently.
Sui Cheng said, "Mental ability users and healing ability users are both very rare. When the Day of Calamity comes, it would be quite remarkable if one in ten humans could become an ability user. So far, the three bases have counted around fifty million humans, and this is only within China. The situation abroad is unclear."
At that time, China had a population of about 1.3 billion. It was a vast and resource-rich land. After the biological infection, countless people died. It took nearly a year to save these 50 million people.
The mountainous and coastal areas are dangerous zones that none of the three bases can completely clear. Protecting humanity in the bases built on the plains is already a national effort.
"And you, where were you on the day the apocalypse came?" Lu Zhi's tone sounded a little off, as if he cared a lot about this question.
"I was sick that day and took the day off to rest at home. When I woke up, the world had changed," the passenger said casually.
Lu Zhi clenched his fists, and his turbulent emotions gradually calmed down.
"I see."
His whispered murmur went unheard by the passenger, who merely glanced at his expression and found it somewhat odd.
"And you? Why were you there the day we met?"
Lu Zhi chuckled and said, "Didn't I tell you? I've been waiting for you."
Sui Cheng asked coldly, "After the Day of Calamity arrived, did you stay in Xinghai City? How did you survive? Why did you only contact the base during that period?"
Despite his barrage of questions, the lawyer remained unfazed.
He turned his head to look at Suicheng's face, his tone rather casual: "Chengcheng, let's play a game. One question each, and I won't lie to you no matter what you ask."
The attendant did not immediately agree, but said, "I have nothing on me that is worth keeping a secret."
“I don’t want your secrets.” Lu Zhi rested her chin on her hand, gazing at him with deep affection.
“Alright, then I’ll ask the first question,” the attendant said. “How did you survive?”
Lu Zhi chuckled and said, "Naturally, you should hide and eke out a living. If you don't encounter any alien species, you should hide. If you do encounter them, you should slowly kill them. But you won't be able to hold out for long."
"Are you satisfied with my answer? Now it's my turn." Lu Zhi's deep green eyes were bright and piercing, but he lowered them again and casually asked, "Do you like plants? Except for flowers."
The strange question made the passenger glance at him again. "My sister loves flowers and plants. She keeps quite a few at home, and over time she'll develop a liking for one or two of them."
Lu Zhi narrowed his eyes slightly: "For example?"
The passenger said, "This is the second question; it's my turn to ask you."
"Alright, go ahead and ask." Lu Zhi sighed and waved his hand.
The attendant asked, "How did you determine that it was definitely me who came? Master Lvzhi, have we known each other before?"
“That’s two problems.” When Lu Zhi heard the last sentence, his pupils contracted slightly, but he quickly regained his nonchalant demeanor and couldn’t help but smile.
The car suddenly braked; there was a small gap in the road in front of them, and the car couldn't pass.
"We want to..." Before the passenger could finish speaking, the enlarged face of the law enforcement officer appeared before him.
He pinched her chin, his thin lips covered hers, and before she could even react, a light but incredibly hot kiss landed on her lips.
"It was a one-sided acquaintance of mine. Now, it's my turn to ask you something."
Lu Zhi gently stroked his face, pressed his fingertips to his lips, and said, word by word, "Do you like me even a little bit?"
