Chapter 14 The Controlled Alien
Xu Feng extracted a red crystal core from the gray wolf's body. It was radiating a scorching heat, and he could clearly feel the energy emanating from it drawing in his supernatural power. It had a fatal attraction, and he bit his tongue to force himself to calm down.
"This thing is very strange. I didn't feel this strange when I took out the last crystal core."
Sui Cheng, remembering Lu Zhi's words, frowned and asked, "How does it feel?"
Xu Feng said, "You want to absorb it, could it be because it shares the same attribute as my ability?"
"Perhaps you'd better not touch this crystal core for now, and take it back to the lab."
“I understand.” Xu Feng put the things away, and after hearing the wolf howls, he said, “It seems they are heading towards our team members.”
"Hmm." The attendant had noticed it just now, but he didn't seem to be in a hurry at all.
As the team captain, Xu Feng understood his meaning: he wanted to use this opportunity to train the team members.
The two walked back at a leisurely pace and saw a dozen gray wolves surrounding their team members. The one in the middle was larger than the other wolves, and its green eyes were fixed on its prey.
Zhang Meng and Chen Jiang exchanged glances, made a hand gesture, and immediately attacked. Zhang Meng punched a gray wolf away and then kicked away another wolf that pounced on him.
The special operations team members should not be underestimated either; their strength is no less than these two. The biggest difference is that they only have one support member, while the others are all offensive, so their combat power is much higher than theirs.
Lu Zhi glanced at the direction where Sui Cheng and the others were sheltering and immediately spotted the person standing by the tree. He even gave him a playful smile.
Sui Cheng rubbed his temples, wondering how this person knew his location.
My gaze involuntarily fell on my wrist, where vines obediently entwined itself.
I almost forgot about this.
Sui Cheng tried to pull the vines off, but he couldn't budge them; in fact, they only got tighter. It was clear that this was the work of the law enforcement officer.
He glared at Lu Zhi, but Lu Zhi just shrugged, looking completely innocent.
As the two exchanged glances, the lead wolf leaped to a high place and swung its paw at Chen Jiang.
He was accidentally approached, but luckily Zhang Meng reacted quickly and pulled him away. Tan Qingjia also used his mental power to control the gray wolf for a few seconds, which saved his life, but his arm was still scratched.
"I'm fine, don't worry about me." Chen Jiang quickly washed his wound with his own water to prevent infection. Tan Qingjia took the opportunity to pull him away a little so that Lin Zhi could give him an injection.
Although people with superpowers are not easily infected, they still need to take necessary precautions.
While Chen Jiang was giving Lin Zhi the injection, he used his supernatural abilities to knock away the wolves that were charging at him.
Xu Feng, who was not far away, whispered, "Judging from the strength of that wolf king, it seems to be about to advance in rank."
“There are so many strange creatures here. I don’t think I saw any wolves when I came here half a year ago. Where did they come from?” Sui Cheng had just been thinking about this, feeling that the timing of these wolf packs’ appearance was too clever.
Xu Feng nodded in agreement, saying, "That's right. They weren't here before; it's as if they only arrived recently."
"If it were a high-level wolf that could come here from somewhere else, I might not suspect anything. But with so many wolves, it's impossible for them to go unnoticed on the road. Besides, Furong City isn't too far from the base, and it's a necessary stop on the way to Xinghai City."
The attendant said, "We're going to Xinghai City via the Yancheng route, passing through Yaocheng."
"Yaocheng...is very close to Base One. Did you encounter anything in Xinghai City?"
Xu Feng's question made the passenger subconsciously glance at Lu Zhi. They hadn't found the high-level species in Xinghai City, but instead encountered the seriously injured Lu Zhi.
The law states that he had dealt with the advanced species, thus depleting his supernatural abilities.
But the problem is, since his superpowers had already run out, how did Lu Zhi heal his own injuries and survive until they arrived there?
Sui Cheng began to suspect that Lu Zhi's appearance there was intentional. The news that there were actually advanced species in Xinghai City was still not confirmed, and Lu Zhi's one-sided statement was not enough.
When they returned to the base, the crew went to find the person who reported the information, but the person was out on a mission, so they haven't had time to confirm whether the person who told him the advanced information was Law Enforcement.
"Sui, do you have someone you suspect?" Xu Feng saw that he looked thoughtful and thought that he had some clues.
Sui Cheng pursed his lips and shook his head.
"The wolf king is about to die."
Suddenly, the conversation shifted, and the special operations team members worked together to subdue the Wolf King. A hint of resentment seemed to flash in the Wolf King's eyes.
This wolf already possesses basic intelligence and is just one step away from becoming a higher species.
"Captain, you're back." The special operations team members immediately surrounded Xu Feng when they saw him return.
On the contrary, the members of the Sunrise Squad were not so enthusiastic.
In fact, they already knew that Sui Cheng and Xu Feng had returned, and they were watching the battle from not far away. As for how they found out, their mental energy expert Tan Qingjia was no pushover. They had been teammates for almost half a year, and she was very familiar with the supernatural aura on everyone's body. She could sense it from a distance.
"Zhang Meng, examine the body and see if there are any problems."
"OK."
Zhang Meng took out medical gloves from his supply bag and put them on, then began to skillfully search the wolf king's body.
Lu Zhi slowly approached, asking curiously, "What are you doing?"
"Inspect," the attendant said curtly, holding his breath.
Lu Zhi glanced at him and smiled, "What's wrong, Captain Sui? Why do you seem a little angry?"
The passenger looked at him in surprise. How did this man figure it out? Could he be a tapeworm in his stomach?
Lu Zhi chuckled, about to speak, when he was interrupted by Zhang Meng's voice.
"Captain, the wolves have numbers on the back of their necks. They're not wild; they're kept by someone." After saying that, he quickly went to check the other wolves and found that each one had a number under the fur on the back of its neck.
Upon hearing this, Xu Feng and his entourage's expressions changed.
A numbered variant—that's a big deal.
The two men exchanged a glance and said in unison, "Take the body back."
This wasn't the first time they'd brought back the corpses of other species, so they were quite experienced. They even had special bags for the corpses in their bags to prevent the spread of infection.
"We must return to base immediately and report the news."
"Um."
They quickly descended the mountain, started the car, and headed out of Furong City, returning to the base overnight.
The next morning, they returned to the base safely. Xu Feng said something to the personnel checking at the gate, and soon a car sped over and took away the alien corpses they had brought back.
Suddenly, Lu Zhi's wrist was grabbed. He looked at the attendant and raised an eyebrow, asking, "What's wrong?"
The attendant said indifferently, "If you need to have a check-up, come this way."
Everyone who brought back the mutants from outside needed to be checked and cleaned of infection before they could enter the base. After all this trouble, it was already noon.
"I'm tired." Lu Zhi seized the opportunity and leaned against Sui Cheng naturally. Sui Cheng pushed him away, and the next second he covered the spot on his arm where he had been given an injection and started coughing. "Cough cough cough, Captain Sui, be gentle."
Accompanying passenger: "...a drama queen."
Lu Zhi smiled, swallowed a mouthful of blood, and this was no joke.
Unexpectedly, the medication to prevent infection still caused adverse reactions in this body.
