"Damn it! It's locked! Where's the key?" Scarface roared.
The short man immediately reached for his lock-picking tools, but the water ghosts had already surged over, and several cold, slippery hands grabbed his trouser legs and backpack straps.
"Get out of here!" The short man struggled in terror, dropping his shotgun to the ground.
"Third brother!" The man with the buzz cut tried to turn around to save him, but he was entangled by several water ghosts, and the snake woman's throwing knives were almost used up.
"Never mind that! Open the door first!" Scarface's eyes turned red, and he viciously slashed at the water ghost next to the short man with his kukri.
But in those chaotic few seconds, a cold, sinister figure, like a real venomous snake, silently approached the entangled short man—it was the leather-armored snake woman!
A fierce glint flashed in her eyes. Instead of saving her companion, she suddenly raised her foot and kicked the short man hard in the back, where the water ghost had already grabbed him!
"Ah!" Caught off guard, the short man lost his balance from the powerful kick and fell headfirst into the surging horde of water ghosts!
"Fourth brother! You fucking..." The scarred man and the buzz-cut man were both stunned!
"He's dead! Open the door!" the viper woman screamed, her voice icy cold. "Or we'll all die!"
Before the short man could even scream, he was instantly pounced on by four or five water ghosts! Countless pale, swollen arms tore at him, the sounds of flesh tearing and bones breaking were sickening! Blood and entrails instantly stained the slippery ground red!
"Third Brother...!" The man with the buzz cut watched helplessly as his companion was torn to pieces, his eyes wide with rage, his mind on the verge of collapse!
Taking advantage of the brief distraction of the short man by the water ghost, the scarred man finally used brute force, together with the crew-cut man, to kick open the rusted iron gate!
"Go!" Scarface grabbed the nearly insane crew-cut man, glared at the snake woman, and the three of them rushed out of the cargo hold in a disheveled state, slamming the iron door shut behind them.
The terrifying sounds of water ghosts banging on the door and gnawing on corpses came from behind it.
The three leaned against the cold corridor wall, breathing heavily.
Scarface and the crew-cut man were covered in foul-smelling black liquid and their companion's blood, looking utterly disheveled. The snake woman also had bloodstains on her face, but her eyes remained cold.
The team has lost one member!
"What on earth happened?!" Scarface slammed his fist against the wall, sending a clump of rust flying.
"The spawn point is wrong! The quantity is wrong! And that disgusting smell... This is definitely a trap!"
"It's an NPC! It must be that damned maid NPC!" the buzz-cut man roared, his eyes bloodshot. "She deliberately left the key to lure us here! It was her doing! I'm going to find her and tear her to pieces!"
The snake woman wiped her throwing knife and said coldly, "A low-level NPC? How could she possibly know these things? Could it be other players playing tricks?"
"Players?" Scarface narrowed his eyes, staring into the dark corridor. "Whoever it is... they have to pay this debt! Let's get out of this hellhole!"
The three of them didn't care about anything else, and supporting each other, they staggered away from the cargo hold.
They urgently need to find a safe place to rest.
Inside the ventilation duct, Jiang Chan quietly watched their disheveled escape.
She saw the short man betrayed by his companions, pushed into the horde of water ghosts, and torn to pieces.
She heard the buzz-cut man's frantic roar and the scarred man's suppressed howl.
Her eyes were like a frozen lake, without a ripple.
They were neither excited by the enemy's miserable state nor pitied for their losses.
This is just interest.
To repay a small part of the blood debt of the original owner's countless lives with one human life.
Her gaze swept over the chaotic battlefield of flesh and blood inside the cargo hold, then returned to the corridor where the [Blood Slaughter] squad had disappeared.
“This is just the beginning.” Jiang Chan murmured silently, a chilling smile curving her lips. “'Blood Slaughter'? The rules of the game have changed. Now, the 'cleaner' is online.”
Like a ghost, she slid silently down the pipe, disappearing into the deeper shadows of the ship. The hunter's eyes were already locked on the location of the next trap.
She needs to ensure that there are no safe corners left on the ship for the players.
Jiang Chan's figure disappeared into the shadows, leaving behind the terrifying chewing sounds of water ghosts devouring corpses in the cargo hold, and the bloody footprints left by the [Blood Slaughter] squad at the end of the corridor...
...
Jiang Chan arrived at the dance hall.
The ballroom was huge, and even though it is now dilapidated, you can still see its former luxury.
A huge crystal chandelier hung in the center of the ceiling, but most of the lights were broken and covered with a thick layer of dust and cobwebs.
The faded scarlet carpet was covered with stains and holes, the ornate reliefs on the walls were blackened by smoke, and the air was filled with the smell of dust and rotting wood.
Jiang Chan stepped lightly on the carpet, making almost no sound.
She looked up, her gaze fixed on the enormous crystal chandelier. The chandelier's main structure was a heavy metal frame, wrapped with rusted iron chains, and connected to huge hooks on the ceiling.
At the very top center of the chandelier frame, near the ceiling, there is a narrow, shadowy gap that resembles a maintenance access point.
That's it! That mezzanine!
Jiang Chan looked around to make sure there were no monsters or players in the ballroom for the time being. She walked to the edge of the ballroom, where there was a small spiral staircase leading to the upper level. Next to the staircase was a worn-out retractable ladder used to maintain the decorations at the top. The ladder was covered in dust but looked usable.
She moved the ladder to the center of the ballroom and set it up, aligning it with the crystal chandelier. The ladder was long enough that the top just reached the edge of the chandelier's base metal frame. She tested it; it was fairly stable.
