"who?!"
"What are you doing?!"
"Don't move! Anyone who disobeys will be executed!"
Outside the lime circle, the guards, who had been dozing off, were instantly awakened!
Torches were lit, and two constables rushed over, carrying knives and clubs!
The crowd screamed in fright at the sudden turn of events, and chaos ensued!
Jiang Chan's eyes were as cold as iron as she stood in front of Chen Yan, who was holding Xiao Tao.
Explain? Beg for mercy? What a waste of time!
With a sudden thought, she found herself holding a strange, dark, cold, metallic-looking "lump of iron"!
"stop!"
Jiang Chan shouted sharply, her voice not loud, but it carried a chilling aura!
The officials didn't care about that; they raised their swords and started slashing, yelling, "Playing tricks! You're asking for death!"
Bang--!!!
A deafening, earth-shattering explosion suddenly erupted!
The first officer's body suddenly stiffened as he charged forward. A blinding flower of blood burst open at his heart. His ferocious smile froze, and his wide eyes were filled with disbelief and horror!
His body swayed, then he fell straight backward, the broken knife in his hand clattering to the ground!
Dead silence!
Absolute silence enveloped the limestone area!
Everyone was stunned by the sudden, terrifying roar and the bloody scene before them; even the air seemed to freeze!
Another officer who had rushed halfway there was so frightened that his stick fell to the ground with a "thud," and his crotch was instantly soaked!
His legs trembled as he stared in horror at the "iron lump" still emitting faint blue smoke in Jiang Chan's hand, then at his colleague lying dead on the ground with his eyes wide open. A strange "gurgling" sound came from his throat, but he couldn't utter a single word!
"Anyone else trying to stop me?" Jiang Chan's voice was icy as she slowly moved her gun towards the terrified officer and several dark figures rushing towards them from afar. "Anyone who's not afraid of death, come on up!"
The dark muzzle of the gun was like the eye of death! No one dared to move!
The officials who had been so fierce just moments before were now like chickens with their necks being choked, their bodies stiff, their faces pale, and they even forgot to breathe!
Take advantage of this deathly silence and awe!
Jiang Chan whirled around and roared at the horrified crowd behind her:
"Listen up! The government has no intention of saving anyone! They're going to kill us all tonight! If you want to live, run now! Run anywhere! Staying here is just waiting to die!"
After shouting, she didn't even glance at the stunned officials and commoners, and called out to Chen Yan and Zhou Shi, "Let's go!"
Fear and the will to survive instantly overwhelmed the stunned silence!
Run!
"The government is going to kill people!"
"Run for your lives!"
The crowd erupted in chaos, with cries and screams filling the air like a hornet's nest that had been poked open!
The people were terrified, pushing and shoving, crying and running wildly in all directions!
Some people rushed towards the tightly closed city gates in a panic; some ran around in the wilderness like headless flies; and many more followed Jiang Chan, who had just delivered a thunderous blow like a demon, and surged towards the dark forest on the other side of the official road!
Jiang Chan, carrying Xiao Tao, and Chen Yan rushed to the front!
She was skilled at escaping during the chaos of the apocalypse, and she would specifically choose places with dense forests and complex terrain to take her way through!
"Don't follow us!" Jiang Chan roared at the pursuing crowd. "Run! Staying together makes you easy targets!"
But the terrified crowd wouldn't listen to anything they heard.
In the darkness, Jiang Chan and Chen Yan were the only visible and seemingly powerful "backbone"!
A dozen or so people followed in a chaotic manner, stumbling and rushing into the edge of the forest.
As soon as we entered the forest, the dense canopy immediately blocked out the dim starlight, and we were plunged into complete darkness!
"Ah! I can't see!"
Don't step on me!
"My child! Where is my child?!"
The crowd instantly descended into greater chaos and panic. Underfoot were tangled tree roots and scattered rocks, and people kept falling, crying out in pain.
The darkness amplified the fear, and the group descended into chaos.
Jiang Chan stopped and clicked her tongue in annoyance.
At this rate, even without the officials chasing them, a whole bunch of people could be trampled to death!
Her thoughts stirred slightly—
Whoosh!
A dazzling, condensed white beam of light suddenly tore through the thick darkness, like a sword of divine punishment!
All eyes instantly focused on the strangely shaped "short stick" in Jiang Chan's hand. The beam of light emanating from the front of the stick was steady and bright, clearly illuminating the mountain path, tree trunks, and bushes within a few meters ahead!
"Ah—! A miracle!"
"The mountain god has appeared! Fairy, save me!"
"Light! There is light!"
The crowd erupted in disbelief and frenzied shouts, with many people kneeling down and kowtowing repeatedly to the pillar of light in Jiang Chan's hand!
Chen Yan stared intently at the beam of light, his eyes filled with extreme shock and even deeper confusion!
This light... it can't possibly come from torches or lanterns... just how many secrets does she hold?! Could she really be a deity?
"Stop kneeling!" Jiang Chan's icy voice rang out from within the beam of light, carrying an unquestionable command. "Get up if you want to live! Keep up! Those who fall behind won't be waited for!" She lowered the beam of light, mainly illuminating the path beneath her feet. "Also, don't call me some kind of fairy! If anyone shouts or makes a sound again, I'll take back this 'divine light' and make them find their way in the dark!"
Threats are more effective than pleas!
The gasps and groans of the crowd subsided instantly, as the instinct for survival overcame their awe.
The crowd scrambled to their feet, their eyes fixed on the steadily moving beam of light. They followed behind, stumbling along, no longer daring to make a sound, for fear that they would truly be abandoned by the "fairy" in this dark, ghostly forest.
