Chapter 69

In the military region headquarters office, Commander Wang Hai and his political commissar Jiang Qingsong were each looking at a book in their hands. However, as they turned the pages, neither of them looked too pleased. After finishing his elementary school textbook, Wang Hai closed it and asked Zhang Jianjun, who was sitting in front of him and had already recounted what had happened, a question.

"Comrade Zhang, is what you said true? Could it be... some other reason?"

“Reporting to the commander, everything I said is true. I did see an ancient skeleton in that cave. I also saw the description of the skeleton next to it. At the same time, I also saw a ball of light fly into Liu Mingfeng’s mind. The light that later appeared on his body was something we knocked on and even shot at.”

“I also saw him take out the treatment robot he mentioned and drink the treatment potion. Comrade Liu Mingfeng, who originally had fractures in his hands and feet, was able to jump around again after drinking the potion. I also rode on the hoverboard he took out, which he brought out from the deep mountains in a few moves.”

After listening to Zhang Jianjun's words, Wang Hai turned to ask Jiang Qingsong, the political commissar sitting next to him and also his closest brother, for his opinion.

"Qingsong, what do you think? Do you think this kind of thing is true?"

Jiang Qingsong closed the biography in his hand and solemnly shared his views with Wang Hai.

"It's better to believe it than not, but I do hope it's true, since as far as I know, that number two isn't in very good health."

Upon hearing Jiang Qingsong's words, Wang Hai's expression turned serious. He knew that his good brother came from a powerful military family in Beijing, and that Jiang Qingsong's appointment as his political commissar was merely a way to avoid the turmoil. Now, hearing that Jiang Qingsong also hoped it was true, he nodded, stood up, and spoke to Zhang Jianjun.

“Let’s go then. Regardless of whether this is true or not, even if it’s not really about the gold and silver in those caves, it’s still worth the trip.”

After saying this, Wang Hai led Liang Qingsong and Zhang Jianjun out of the commander's office. As they left, he instructed the guards standing by the door to send 60 men with him on the mission. They were to bring ropes and carrying poles. The reason they weren't bringing any containers for carrying supplies was that the gold and silver left behind by Zhuge Miaoshou were stored in fine nanmu wood chests, which were still intact. The chests containing the gold and silver brought in by the Japanese were also still usable, as they were from a relatively recent period. Of course, weapons were also essential.

The guards hurried towards the 10th Company. When Wang Hai and Zhang Jianjun arrived at the assembly point, they saw two large military trucks parked in front of them, each carrying 30 soldiers. As the three of them approached, the company commander of the 1st Company quickly ran up to Wang Hai and saluted.

"Report: The 60 soldiers of the first company have assembled and are now awaiting the commander's orders."

At Wang Hai's command to set off, everyone quickly boarded the military truck. Zhang Jianjun, in particular, didn't drive his own vehicle but sat in the front of the truck, directing the driver. Not far past Ping'an Town, they turned onto a small road. After driving for a short while, they stopped. Everyone got out and discovered they were parked on the edge of a mountain. There was a path worn into their path, the one Feng Minghao had told Zhang Jianjun about before they set off.

This path was created by people from several nearby villages who hunted game in the mountains and wanted to exchange it for money. They would transport the game from the mountains to this path, and the truck drivers traveling along this road would buy it all. That's how this path was worn out. Feng Minghao knew about it because he had also hunted game while searching for that valley in the mountains. Although Liu Mingfeng had a spatial ability, he couldn't deliver the game directly to the town, so he brought it here instead. Small game would be exchanged for money with passing truck drivers, while larger game would be bought by Tan Jing from the black market in town.

After everyone got off the military truck, Wang Hai had four people watch over the vehicle. Then Zhang Jianjun led the group, and they ran forward together.

The group traversed the forest and soon arrived at the place where Zhang Jianjun and Feng Minghao had parted ways. However, upon arriving, they found only Feng Minghao standing there; the man who claimed to be Hua An had vanished with Liu Mingfeng's body. Zhang Jianjun's expression changed abruptly when he saw only Feng Minghao. He rushed over and called out to him.

"Why are you the only one here? Where is the other person? Why didn't you keep an eye on them?"

Feng Minghao didn't rush to answer Zhang Jianjun's question. Instead, he winked at Zhang Jianjun. After all, there were quite a few people here, and it was best to keep things as confidential as possible.

"Brother Jianjun, my cousin said he's going home for a bit. Why don't you take some men to the cave and bring those things out?"

When Zhang Jianjun heard Feng Minghao call him "cousin" and saw his gesture, he knew that Feng Minghao didn't want too many people to know about this. So he told Wang Hai the direction of the cave. Wang Hai then ordered the company commander to lead the more than 50 soldiers to the location Zhang Jianjun had told him, and they would arrive shortly after.

After the soldiers left, Zhang Jianjun was about to ask Feng Minghao a question when Feng Minghao pointed to his feet before he could speak. There were several deep footprints under Feng Minghao's feet. Zhang Jianjun was shocked when he saw this and asked what was going on.

“Brother Jianjun, after you left, that person suggested we walk around the area, but I disagreed. He then gave me an injection, injecting something into my body that I don’t know what it was. At the time, I thought it was something bad, but he told me it was a power potion. Not long after the injection, I didn’t feel any discomfort, but suddenly my strength increased dramatically. I couldn’t control myself and chased after him as he was leaving, leaving these deep footprints on the ground. I didn’t dare to move anymore. I only dared to move around a little here, adapting to the sudden increase in strength.”

Seeing the footprints on the ground and hearing Feng Minghao's words, Wang Hai and Liang Qingsong weren't entirely convinced. They asked Feng Minghao to take a few steps. Hearing their conversation, Feng Minghao turned to look at them. Zhang Jianjun quickly introduced them as Wang Hai, the commander of a military region, and Jiang Qingsong, the political commissar. Feng Minghao saluted them and then actually took two steps. He seemed to have adjusted to the weight in his body; although he still left footprints, they were noticeably shallower than the initial ones.

The three knew that if they waited for Feng Minghao to adjust, he would be able to quickly control the surge of power within his body.
