An older man nearby quickly pulled the impulsive young man back, his face full of worry.
"Isn't that right? Every time these people have a meeting, they secretly say that our decisions are wrong, that we sacrificed people with superpowers, but they always use the information we've discovered." Xiao Zhang was clearly a newcomer, and after several meetings, he wished he could twist these people's heads off.
"Hey, Secretary Yun meant well," someone stepped in to smooth things over.
"Hmph, if it weren't for your constant, aggressive demands for the superpowered teams to explore and release so many beacons every time they go out, the superpowered individuals wouldn't have been lost so quickly." Secretary Yun couldn't argue with the Commander-in-Chief and Nan Zhu, but he was more than capable of dealing with a young man.
“Xiao Zhang, I know you’ve always been representatives of the radicals and have always advocated exploration, but you also have to consider the national situation, don’t you?” Secretary Yun raised his voice: “Our national situation is different from that of Wellen. Helmod is exploring because they have a small population. It’s not a big deal if the country splits into several exploration teams.”
"Our Yanlong Kingdom has a large population, strong cohesion, and a high degree of unity. Given the shortage of manpower, we should be more focused on defending the Great Wall and protecting our people, rather than going out to explore and putting them in danger."
Xiao Zhang was so angered by Secretary Yun's rebuke that he couldn't catch his breath, and his face turned bright red.
Unfortunately, he was at a disadvantage. Since the exploration team came out, there had been quite a few casualties.
Despite the snow-covered landscape and the fact that a considerable amount of information could be collected after the beacon was lowered, the gains did not outweigh the losses, and the initial expectations were not met.
“Our Yanlong Kingdom values the middle way; exploration and defense must go hand in hand.” The commander frowned, interrupting the argument, and then made almost the exact same decision as last time: “You will not be given the right to allocate resources. Don’t bring this up again.”
"Wait, Commander-in-Chief, I think you should reconsider this carefully." Secretary Yun's face darkened completely: "At least this time, you should reconsider this carefully."
"I've always thought this through clearly. Why do some people insist on the right to allocate resources? Do they feel they don't have enough power right now?" the Commander-in-Chief countered. "Or do they want to seize control of the nation's lifeline and monopolize power?"
"Listen up! The Yanlong Kingdom will absolutely not allow the formation of cliques and the emergence of evil forces. We must work together to fight against the apocalypse, not engage in power struggles here!" The leader slammed his hand on the table, and most people lowered their heads.
“Commander-in-Chief, I think you’ve misunderstood something.” A young man next to Secretary Yun raised his head: “After the apocalypse, social order collapsed. What we’re doing now is simply adapting to the world’s development in advance.”
"Now that the courts and police stations are practically useless, how many laws are actually effective in this apocalypse?" Secretary Yun continued, "Today, we must seize this right to allocate resources."
Half of the people in the conference room were shocked. At this point, it was practically a complete falling out.
“It’s good to be confident.” Nan Zhu sat to the side, his expression somewhat strange. “But if you only have confidence, it makes you seem a bit weak, Mr. Yun.”
"Open the door." This time, Secretary Yun ignored Nan Zhu and instead took out a walkie-talkie from his pocket.
Everyone was stunned for a moment, only to see the door suddenly pushed open from the outside, and a pack of jackals and tigers rushed in.
These animals are numerous, but they look very strange. Their fur is a strange bluish-gray color on top of their original color, and their eyes are pale with no pupils.
Most of them have long hair and mottled skin, as if they have a strange skin disease. When they open their mouths and roar, you can see that their teeth are strangely sharp.
"Animal zombies!" someone exclaimed, and the conference room immediately erupted into chaos.
"Quiet." The commander-in-chief stood up.
Perhaps it was his calm demeanor that caused the initially panicked people to gradually quiet down and sit back down.
“My Lord, as I said, this time, at least this time, I suggest you reconsider.” Secretary Yun stood up, and the young man beside him also stood up.
Immediately afterwards, Secretary Yun actually took a step back, retreating behind the young man.
"How many people have you infiltrated?" The commander-in-chief asked calmly. "However, it seems you're the only one in this conference room. Is that alright?"
"Am I not enough? In my opinion, I alone could wipe you all out, hehehe." As the young man spoke, he revealed a strange smile: "Why does it seem like the Commander-in-Chief isn't surprised at all by my existence?"
"Your methods of concealment are not very sophisticated," the commander-in-chief shrugged, offering a frank assessment.
"Bah! Even now, you still dare to look down on me? I'll give you a chance to join the new world. I can make you a minor leader." The young man raised his hand: "You can call me Master Puppet."
The man who called himself a puppet raised his hand, and the commander noticed that there seemed to be some broken threads connecting the man's fingertips.
The broken silk thread floated in the air, trembling slightly from time to time. As the fingers of the puppet and the silk thread trembled, the jackals, wolves, tigers, and leopards surrounded them faster and faster.
"You recommend me, and you think I can become a junior leader in the New World? You must be in a very high position?" The commander-in-chief raised his head and met the young man's gaze. "Do your superiors know about your boasting?"
"The survival rule in the apocalypse should be that the strong rule." The puppet spread its arms, pointed at everyone present, and laughed madly: "People like you, you, all of you, all of you ordinary people without superpowers, should be thrown into the zombie horde immediately!"
"You lowly, useless ordinary people, do you even have the right to live?" The puppet sneered. "I just gave you a chance. If you had obediently handed over your rights, I might have let you live in the story for a while... Since you're disobedient, don't blame me for being impolite!"
“That’s right, Lord Commander, the new world isn’t as simple as you think.” Secretary Yun, who had already hidden behind the puppet, chimed in, “Power is not as important as life.”
"This has nothing to do with power. I will not allow anyone to trample on the dignity of the Yanlong Kingdom." The leader stood at the head of the conference table, his fearless gaze sweeping across the entire conference room: "If we relinquish the initiative, the Yanlong Kingdom will exist in name only, and I will defend the interests and dignity of the Yanlong Kingdom to the death!"
"And I should be the one warning you: lay down your weapons and surrender immediately, then we will still have a chance to negotiate," the commander-in-chief said sternly.
"You ungrateful wretch!" the puppet shrieked.
He raised both hands and began to move his ten fingers rapidly. As his fingers moved and the silk threads trembled violently, the zombies, jackals, tigers, and leopards immediately began to beat him up.
However, to everyone's surprise, these zombies did not distinguish between friend and foe. The person who had been turned by him and was standing behind the puppet was also attacked and knocked to the ground from the bench.
"Master Puppet! We're on your side!" Secretary Yun's face turned ashen. He fought desperately, but what attacked him was a zombie tiger.
This zombie tiger seemed even stronger than when it was alive; it broke both of his arms with a single slap.
"Heh heh, all in cahoots? You remnants of the old world, you dare to say you're with me?" The puppet laughed loudly, "Today, I will take over the Flame Dragon Kingdom, I will definitely rise to a higher level, this piece of fat meat will be mine!"
"Sigh..." the commander sighed softly, "How could anyone be so foolish as to believe these people?"
"Shiyin, it's time to set things right." The commander-in-chief's gaze was calm: "The Yanlong Kingdom has been in chaos for too long; it's time to properly rectify it."
"I obey your command, Your Excellency."
