Chapter 8 Next Steps

Chapter 8 Next Steps

"Um, Wu Chengbin, why don't you eat something first?"

After Wu Chengbin had recovered from his grief, Han Shuo patted him on the shoulder and handed him two cans of food.

"Thank you! Big brother, you can just call me Fatty from now on." Wu Chengbin wiped away his tears and forced a smile. He didn't refuse and quickly opened a can of food, wolfing it down.

Han Shuo turned and walked to the window, lifted a corner of the window, and gazed at the dark night sky. He felt a pang of emotion.

"Sigh~, with the end of the world approaching, everyone has their own difficulties."

Through Wu Chengbin's explanation, and considering the timeline since the zombies appeared, Han Shuo now knows that only a small number of people have survived.

Viruses spread rapidly, from one person to ten, and from ten to a hundred. This is especially true of such an aggressive virus.

Even if some people were lucky enough not to encounter the fog at the time, most of them couldn't withstand the zombie attack later.

Humanity has been living in comfort for far too long, and sudden disasters catch people off guard.

...

"Big brother, I'm finished eating," the fat man called out to Han Shuo.

Han Shuo glanced back and saw that the fat man had only eaten one can of food and had put the rest back.

Without saying a word, Han Shuo nodded.

I took out my phone and glanced at the time; before I knew it, it was 11 p.m.

"Alright, let's call it a day. Go sleep in the second bedroom and make sure your door is closed."

After hearing Han Shuo's instructions, Fatty didn't go straight back to his room. Instead, he put all the food Han Shuo had brought back that day into Han Shuo's bedroom before returning to his own room.

"Not bad, very clever and quick-witted," Han Shuo thought to himself as he watched the fat man's actions.

Working with smart people saved him a lot of trouble.

The two had only recently become acquainted. Han Shuo was a cautious person, and although he agreed to let the fat man stay, he couldn't completely trust him.

The fat man's ability to carry food to his room is also a way of showing loyalty.

Without thinking further, Han Shuo took the Tang sword and put it back in his bedroom.

...

In the following days, the two did not go out again. The food Han Shuo brought back was enough for him to live on for more than half a month.

Although the fat man's arrival was not within Han Shuo's plans.

Even with the addition of one more person's food intake, this amount of food can sustain the two of them for at least a week.

Han Shuo did not skimp on the fat man's food.

To ensure he could keep up with all unforeseen circumstances, Han Shuo maintained his physical fitness at all times. The two of them ate two meals a day, and the fat man ate as much as Han Shuo did.

It was obvious that the fat man ate far more than that, but he never complained. In the apocalypse, having something to eat was already a blessing.

During this time, the fat man did not do anything improper, which gradually put Han Shuo at ease.

The only thing that worried Han Shuo was that there were more and more zombies downstairs.

This also shows that fewer and fewer people are surviving in the community.

With only two days' worth of food left for the two of them, Han Shuo decided to take action once again!

...

"Fatty, come on, breakfast is ready!"

Early in the morning, Han Shuo woke up the fat man, who, still half asleep, came out of the room shirtless.

After spending a few days together, their relationship became less tense and they were probably at the level of good friends.

"Wow, brother, what a feast today!"

On the table were several bags of compressed biscuits, two servings of instant noodles soaked in hot water, and the last two cans of meat.

The fat man walked to the dining table, drooling. "After we finish this meal, we'll only have a few cookies left, right? Big brother, are you planning to make another move?"

After saying that, he and Han Shuo started eating together.

"Hmm...actually, we should have taken action a long time ago. Do you know why I haven't gone out yet?"

"What else could it be? There's still enough food, and it's definitely safer inside than outside," the fat man replied without turning his head.

"Partly, yes, but most importantly, I'm waiting."

The fat man was puzzled. "Waiting for what?"

Han Shuo took a bite of the biscuit, swallowed it with the noodle soup, and then said with a smile.

"The main thing is to wait and see if the zombies will disappear, or rather, whether the army will come to deal with them."

"Brother, the probability of that is not high, is it?"

"Yeah, of course I know it's not that big. Fatty, it's been about half a month since the zombies appeared, right?"

The fat man picked up his phone and checked the date. "That's right, it's been 17 days including today."

"This proves that there are two possibilities. First, the army is too busy to rescue others."

"What about the second one?"

"Hehe, this is even more troublesome. The situation is completely out of control, and the army has been completely overrun."

"What? It can't be that bad, can it? They have guns and all sorts of weapons. I don't think the zombies are completely invincible right now?"

Although the fat man is smart, he sometimes doesn't think as comprehensively as Han Shuo.

"What if the zombies disintegrate from the inside?" Han Shuo asked, and the fat man immediately realized what he meant.

"You mean? The military is also infected? That can't be right. Such a well-sealed place, even if a few zombies appear, it should be easily dealt with!"

Before he knew it, Han Shuo had finished eating. He then wiped his mouth with his hand and continued speaking.

"I don't know about that, but based on my analysis, if the army is safe, it's possible that they would use large-scale firearms at this moment, even if it means destroying a few cities."

"Now that the situation is completely out of control, no matter the cost, if we can completely eliminate the zombies, even if very few people survive, it should be worth it."

"The fact that things have been quiet for so long clearly indicates that they lack the capacity for post-disaster reconstruction."

...

The fat man was somewhat surprised by what Han Shuo said; he hadn't expected Han Shuo to be so comprehensive in his thinking.

The more he thought about it, the more he realized that Han Shuo made sense, and he couldn't help but shudder.

Seeing the fat man's condition, Han Shuo spoke up.

"Forget it, let's not study these things anymore. They're not relevant to us. Let's just think about how to prolong our lives."

The fat man snapped out of his daze. "Yeah, whatever. If the sky falls, someone tall will hold it up. If the tall ones can't hold it up, then we'll have to rely on ourselves!"

...

After breakfast, Han Shuo began packing his luggage. He used the same backpack as before, and in addition to stuffing in the remaining food, he also put in some clothes.

The season is getting colder and colder. If things go smoothly this time, Han Shuo doesn't plan to come back.

So Han Shuo stuffed everything he could think of into his backpack.

"Fatty, here's your backpack. Put the rest of the water into small bottles, and fill it with whatever else you can see. Once it's full, we'll get ready to leave."

The fat man caught the backpack that Han Shuo threw to him and stood there stunned.

"Huh? What's going on? Aren't they coming back?"

Han Shuo's words clearly suggested that he wasn't just going to get food, but rather that he was moving house.
