Chapter 9 Breakthrough

Chapter 9 Breakthrough

“Look at the zombies downstairs. There are twice as many as a few days ago. If we stay any longer, we’ll be trapped inside once all the zombies flood in.”

As Han Shuo spoke, he continued packing his luggage without turning his head.

"That convenience store from last time is probably already empty. And given the current situation, even if we went back, we could easily get trapped inside. The first floor is not as safe as the sixth floor; zombies could break in at any time."

The fat man didn't argue; he was naturally aware of these circumstances. Since Han Shuo had made his decision, he could only silently follow.

The fat man knew that if he stayed here, he would most likely starve to death. Escaping with Han Shuo, with his superb swordsmanship, might offer a sliver of hope.

"Okay, I'll go pack my things!"

Soon, the two were ready.

"Come here, Fatty." Han Shuo stood by the window and called out to Fatty.

"They're here!"

Pulling back the curtains, Han Shuo pointed to the man who had died in the car that day. The man had been wounded and transformed into a zombie, and had been trapped inside the car ever since. He was now skin and bones, but he was still alive after all these days.

"See that car?"

"Uh-huh."

"The car door shouldn't be locked. We need to figure out a way to get in first."

Han Shuo had been planning for several days, and after much thought, he realized that if the two of them could get a car, it would undoubtedly make their journey much easier.

"Okay, I'll drive it then."

Han Shuo briefly explained his plan to the fat man, which was to rush out of the building, drive out of the community, and then try to find side roads and drive towards the outskirts of the city.

The fat man had no objections; he felt it was the best option. The city's dense population was causing an increasing number of zombies, and if the two could successfully escape to the suburbs, they would be much safer.

In sparsely populated areas, there will naturally be fewer zombies.

However, even at the fastest speed, it takes about two hours to drive from here to the suburbs. This does not include any unexpected situations that may arise along the way.

Han Shuo couldn't think that far ahead; he could only improvise when the time came.

...

The two quietly went downstairs. Han Shuo carried a Tang sword, while the fat man carried a steel pipe. This steel pipe was the most practical weapon Han Shuo could find in the house; it was the only one, and it had been taken from the shower in the bathroom.

Although it's hollow, it's still quite sturdy.

As for his previous unsharpened Tang sword, due to its material, it was only good for training and would probably break after a few strokes. In comparison, it was not as sturdy as this steel pipe.

...

"Shh~."

As Han Shuo descended from the 6th floor to the 5th floor, he caught a whiff of the familiar fishy stench from afar. He made a gesture to the fat man and proceeded slowly and quietly.

The two descended two more floors without any danger, and Han Shuo realized he had been overreacting. They didn't find any zombies on the third floor, except for the one he had already dealt with.

Han Shuo was delighted as he was about to return to the first floor.

...

However, Han Shuo didn't notice that on the fourth floor, which the two had just passed, the closed stairwell door had opened a crack, and the foul smell from before was coming from inside.

On the other side of the door, one, two, three, four!

There were four zombies hiding inside.

As Han Shuo passed by, the four zombies had already smelled the scent of meat. One of the zombies slowly broke open the door to the fourth floor.

...

Han Shuo was still walking intently, his attention completely focused on what lay below.

The two had reached the second floor and could see the light from the exit through the gaps in the stairs.

At the corner, Han Shuo hid himself, and the fat man quietly followed behind.

Han Shuo could roughly see the situation outside from here, and counted five zombies.

There was no way around it; these zombies weren't wandering off and remained stationary. If they went out, they would definitely run into them. Han Shuo had to deal with these five zombies!

Han Shuo gestured to the fat man behind him, preparing to take action.

The fat man understood and nodded. Looking at the five zombies outside, he trembled slightly but still gripped the steel pipe tightly in his hand.

Just as Han Shuo was about to rush out!

"thump!"

A loud bang came from behind. The fat man turned around and his eyes widened!

"Behind you!" the fat man exclaimed in surprise. Even without the fat man's reminder, Han Shuo had already turned around and seen the situation behind him after hearing the sound.

The sound came from a zombie that had fallen through a crack in the stairs above. Behind these zombies were three more.

These four zombies followed us down from the fourth floor.

...

The zombies behind him caught Han Shuo off guard, and the noise also attracted the attention of the five zombies at the door, who turned around and saw Han Shuo and his companion.

The zombies looked at the building as if they were about to devour two delicious meals and were about to rush in.

Han Shuo noticed these things, of course. Being attacked from both sides was not a good idea, especially on such a narrow staircase.

"Charge out!" Taking advantage of the distance between them and the zombies, Han Shuo shouted to the fat man and quickly rushed out with his knife.

The moment they reached the door, they bumped into the first zombie.

With a swift motion, Han Shuo's Tang sword sliced across the zombie's neck, killing it instantly!

Without looking back at the fat man, Han Shuo needed to create an opening first.

Gathering his full attention and gripping his Tang sword tightly, Han Shuo was about to face four zombies simultaneously.

Turn around, jump to the left, swing your sword, and slash sideways.

With a series of actions, Han Shuo took down another one.

At that moment, three other zombies simultaneously lunged at Han Shuo.

He kicked one away, grabbed the arm of the second zombie with his left hand to prevent the claws from grabbing him, and instantly stabbed the last zombie in the head with his right hand!

"Two left!"

Han Shuo was panting heavily; the remaining two were no longer a threat to him.

After easily taking care of the last two, Han Shuo remembered the fat man behind him.

Looking back, I saw the fat man using the narrow entrance to fend off four zombies behind him.

It's more accurate to say it was defended against one enemy than four.

Because only one zombie can come out of this doorway at a time. The fat man poked and prodded with the steel pipe in his hand, which, if not for this situation, would have looked somewhat comical.

However, whether it was because the fat man was nervous or because his aim with the steel pipe was a bit off, after so long, the fat man had only managed to hit the head of one zombie.

"Not bad!" Han Shuo praised, and quickly went back to help.

"Swish! Swish! Swish!" After three slashes, the three behind were successfully dealt with.

"Walk!"

The commotion they made attracted the attention of zombies in the distance, and dozens of zombies surrounded them.

The crisis is not over yet!

The two quickly ran towards the car.

Fortunately, the car was very close to them. After crossing the bushes in the middle, Han Shuo reached the car. He reached for the driver's side door, and sure enough, it wasn't locked.

Prepared, the moment he opened the car door, Han Shuo plunged a knife into the zombie man's head. He then pulled the zombie out of the car, also snatching the car remote from his waist.

Thus far, since the beginning of the apocalypse, Han Shuo has dealt with a total of fifteen zombies, all using only a Tang sword in his hand!
