Chapter 15 Escape
The fat man's voice slowly pulled Han Shuo back to his senses, and Han Shuo's eyes gradually cleared.
When the fat man saw Han Shuo staring at his injured arm, he already guessed what was going on.
"Phew!" The fat man let out a deep sigh.
He knew why Han Shuo's eyes had suddenly become lost, why they had suddenly turned like this. Looking down at his arm, the fat man gave a self-deprecating smile.
Then, suddenly!
The fat man's gaze became incredibly determined. He picked up Han Shuo's Tang sword and swung it back at his own neck!
The fat man wanted to know the answer to his life question; he knew he was infected. While he didn't want to die, he didn't want to become a zombie either. He understood perfectly well what Han Shuo was worried about.
These days, Fatty is very grateful to Han Shuo. Without him, he might have starved to death at home or been eaten by zombies.
That's enough!
Although the fat man was a little reluctant to see him live so much longer, he had no regrets.
Only by ending his own life could Han Shuo let go of his worries, fully wake up, and successfully escape.
...
What are you doing?
Han Shuo finally came to his senses. He grabbed the fat man's arm and stopped the Tang sword that was about to slash his neck.
The fat man didn't speak, he just shook his head.
Han Shuo saw relief in the fat man's eyes; at this moment, the fat man seemed to have put life and death aside.
In the corner of the fat man's eye, Han Shuo also saw a glimmer of hope.
Han Shuo suddenly realized that this hope was not left to him by the fat man, but rather something he wanted to leave to Han Shuo.
"Smack—!"
A loud slap rang out!
The fat man stared blankly at Han Shuo, as if asking, "Why? Why did Han Shuo do this?"
This slap wasn't aimed at the fat man; Han Shuo himself slapped himself hard across the face!
What am I thinking?
Why would I think that way?
"The fat man is injured!"
"But what I was thinking about was what he would become, and whether he would pose a threat to me?"
"But how should I save him?"
Han Shuo woke up, and the moment he was fully awake, he felt very guilty.
"The fat guy was even willing to sacrifice himself to dispel my concerns, while I never considered his feelings. Me? Is this how I treat a friend who truly cares for me?"
Han Shuo snatched the Tang sword from the fat man's hand, but did not start the car immediately.
At this moment, the corpse dogs outside the car had already arrived, frantically lunging at the car and banging on the car door.
Han Shuo ignored him and quickly took out a fruit knife from his pocket.
He brought this knife from home specifically to deal with any unexpected situations like this!
"Fatty, just bear with it!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Han Shuo swung the clean fruit knife in his hand at the fat man's injured arm.
"Sizzle!" A sharp pain shot through the fat man's arm, and he gritted his teeth.
A large piece of flesh had been torn from the fat man's arm by Han Shuo, and he knew that Han Shuo was saving him.
Fortunately, the corpse dog's claws didn't cut too deep. Han Shuo didn't know if this would stop the infection, but this time, for his friend, he would do his best.
Han Shuo tore off a piece of cloth from his outer garment, made sure it wasn't stained with the corpse dog's blood, and threw it to the fat man so he could use it to stop the bleeding from his wound.
Without wasting any more time, before the zombie dogs could break the car windows, he quickly shifted into gear, stepped on the gas, and finally drove away from the crisis!
The corpse dog outside the car was thrown to the ground by the car's sudden acceleration. After getting up, it continued to chase after the car in the direction it had gone.
Han Shuo's driving skills weren't as good as Fatty's, but he was still a capable driver. He floored the accelerator and sped onto the road, quickly leaving the corpse dogs behind.
...
A dozen minutes later.
Han Shuo could no longer hear the howls of the zombie dogs behind them. Finally, the two had escaped the danger!
"Phew~".
Han Shuo sighed, found a place without zombies, and finally felt relieved.
The situation was too critical just now, and Han Shuo had already dealt with all the zombies in the vicinity. He didn't know where the zombie dogs came from, or how they discovered the two of them.
Most importantly, Han Shuo never imagined that the Ice Crystal Virus could also infect animals, and that it was even more troublesome than zombies.
"Fatty, how's it going?"
Han Shuo quickly looked at the fat man beside him, lifted his clothes to check the fat man's wound.
His own cut was precise; Han Shuo had severed all the wounds inflicted by the corpse dog. By now, his clothes were soaked with blood.
"I'm fine, still alive, I can hold on." The fat man's face was a little pale, but he was still relatively clear-headed. He was panting heavily, clearly not yet recovered from the intense battle.
"This big piece of meat is enough to keep you going for a while." More than twenty minutes have passed since the fat man was clawed by the corpse dog.
Han Shuo calculated that it would take about ten minutes for the person to be injured, infected, and die, and about ten minutes for them to wake up and transform into a zombie. The total time was twenty minutes.
Since the fat man is still normal, it seems that Han Shuo's emergency measures have successfully cut off the risk of infection.
"It's good that I'm alive, it's good that I'm alive, I'm so lucky!"
The fat man grinned and said, without directly thanking Han Shuo; he would keep those words in his heart.
Although the fat man had just disregarded his own life, it was clearly better for him to continue living.
"Let's clean the wound simply first."
Han Shuo took a bottle of water from the back seat and poured it on the fat man's wound. There was no alcohol in the car, so he could only use water to clean it.
"You should be glad that the corpse hound caught you with its claws. If you had been bitten, I think I would have chopped off your entire arm!"
With its teeth biting deeper and the saliva from the corpse dog's mouth, simply cutting off a piece of flesh was clearly not enough.
"I'm lucky to be alive!" The fat man was also a little scared.
The wound has been treated and the bleeding has been stopped. There shouldn't be any major changes in the short term.
Han Shuo leaned back in his chair, took out the last pack of cigarettes, pulled out two, handed one to the fat man, and lit one for himself.
"It's a pity we didn't have time to move the two boxes of food back to the greenhouse."
The fat man grumbled as he smoked.
The two had already eaten three of the six boxes of food they bought from the convenience store at the gas station that day. Two of the remaining three boxes were in the shed, leaving only one box in the car.
"It's a miracle you even managed to escape. There's no going back. Who knows if those mad dogs are still there? If you run into them again now that you're injured, you'll definitely die."
Han Shuo turned around and glanced at the last box of food that the two of them had left in the back seat.
"Go to sleep. Make do with the car for the night. We'll talk about the rest tomorrow," Han Shuo said to the fat man, also feeling a bit tired.
That night was truly exhausting for them; just as they fell asleep, the corpse dog arrived.
Not only was the fat man injured, but most of the food was lost, and most importantly, the temporary campsite was lost.
The comfortable life is over; Han Shuo now has to find food and a new place to set up camp.
