Mission in Progress 02
When she blurry opened her eyes, she saw many shadows. Jiang Lin bit her tongue hard, and the smell of blood spread.
She finally woke up a little. It was bright outside and it seemed to be morning.
"Are you okay? I called you for a long time but you didn't wake up." Sheng Wei was a little worried. He reached out and touched her forehead, which was slightly warm.
Wen Yan took out a potion to replenish her strength from his backpack and poured it into her mouth: "Can you still hold on?"
Jiang Lin nodded and got up from the ground. She was stiff all over because she didn't sleep well last night.
After getting up, she tried her best to move her limbs. The stamina agent that Wen Yan had given her began to take effect, and Jiang Lin felt that she had recovered a lot.
"Let's go, I'm fine."
The team packed up their belongings and set out again for the biological base.
As soon as he went out, the wind blew yellow sand in his face, but Jiang Lin inexplicably felt a lot more comfortable.
The further she got from the little house, the lighter she felt.
Her intuition told her that there was something wrong with the house, but why didn't anyone else show any symptoms?
As Jiang Lin walked, he recalled everything that happened after he entered the house yesterday.
The only difference between her and others was that she had read the letter. But could a letter have such a powerful magic?
No matter how she thought about it, there was nothing strange about the letter. The content on it was not enough to cause such great mental pollution.
After swiftly dealing with the last wave of zombies, someone in the team sighed, "It feels like there are fewer and fewer zombies. Maybe one day we can truly escape them."
"Yes, then we can walk freely in the sunshine."
"Forget it. The air is so bad. If I don't wear a helmet, my lungs will have problems sooner or later."
"Hasn't Experimenter Jiang developed a purifier? Once there are more plants, everything will be fine."
…
There weren't many zombies on the road and the journey was quite long, so everyone started chatting in groups of three or four.
Chen Siwei secretly turned around and looked at the silent Jiang Lin. Is it really a good thing to kill a person who can develop a purifier?
He became more and more resistant to this task. If Jiang Lin and Sheng Wei didn't die, what would happen to his family?
Will Chen Guanghai let his family go?
Chen Siwei didn't dare to bet on that man's kindness. He was a complete lunatic.
Jiang Lin was also silently looking at the man in front of him. He was very silent and hardly said anything. There was always a vague sense of disconnection about him.
Jiang Lin was very curious about where this sense of separation came from, and she already had a guess in her mind.
Maybe Chen Siwei was the one sent to assassinate her and Sheng Wei.
But she has no definite evidence yet, so she can only observe his every move. Jiang Lin doesn't want her life to disappear in the hands of an invisible enemy.
By noon, they had already traveled more than half the distance, and Wen Yan took a look at the electronic map.
"We should be at the base around noon tomorrow."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. No one wanted to keep hiking in the hot summer, so they just wanted to exchange their things as soon as possible and return to the base.
This time they were in the suburbs, and there were fewer shelters around for them to rest.
Moreover, the houses in the suburbs are generally dilapidated and have not been maintained for three years. In addition, with the severe weather in the end times, it always feels more dangerous to stay inside than outside.
So everyone found a relatively sturdy wall to rest.
After taking the nutrient supplement at noon, Jiang Lin had almost recovered.
She sat silently in the shadows, wondering whether her dream was an illusion or a revelation.
When she thinks about the strange tree in her dream, she still feels creepy.
"Captain, can I go ahead and check it out first?" A loyal and honest man suddenly spoke.
"This is near my home. The barren mountain ahead is not easy to walk on. I'm more familiar with it, so I'll go check it out first."
"Can you do it alone?" Wen Yan disagreed. For this kind of low-risk mission, it is less likely to have an accident if they gather together.
"Everyone needs to rest. Don't worry, I'm very familiar with this area." The man's eyes under the helmet swept over all the people who were resting.
Wen Yanwei frowned imperceptibly and glanced around. Only Sheng Wei seemed to be in a good mood, pestering Jiang Lin and saying something unknown.
"Sheng Wei, can you go with him to scout the route ahead?" Wen Yan was still worried about going alone.
It was normal to send someone to scout an unfamiliar environment in advance, so Sheng Wei agreed without much thought.
Jiang Lin glanced at the man next to Wen Yan, but didn't have any impression of him. She tugged at Sheng Wei's sleeve.
Sheng Wei patted her hand soothingly and walked over there.
Chen Siwei was still sitting silently in the corner. Jiang Lin had been observing him today.
It is almost certain that Chen Siwei has no accomplices, because he has no intention of communicating with anyone and is always alone, and no one knows what he is thinking.
So Jiang Lin didn't worry too much about Sheng Wei getting into any danger.
But things went against his wishes. The two never came back. Time passed by minute by minute. Jiang Lin became more and more anxious. Could it be that he was wrong?
She stood up and wanted to go find Sheng Wei but was stopped by Wen Yan: "What are you going to do?"
"Sheng Wei hasn't come back yet, I'm worried."
"Wait a little longer. If they don't come back, we'll set off and look for them on the way."
The atmosphere in the team gradually became silent. Jiang Lin was anxiously thinking about every detail, but he could not recall anything unusual about the person who went out with Sheng Wei.
First of all, he and Chen Siwei obviously didn't know each other, and why was he so sure that the person who went out with him must be Sheng Wei?
Just when Jiang Lin was getting annoyed, the person finally came back, but only the man was left.
Before everyone could react, Jiang Lin rushed forward, grabbed the man's neck, and almost lifted him off the ground.
"Tell me, where is Sheng Wei?"
Zhang Tian was shocked at this moment. He originally thought that Sheng Wei would be difficult to deal with, and after dealing with Sheng Wei, Jiang Lin could be easily eliminated.
But why does Jiang Lin feel more terrifying than Wen Yan?
"Jiang Lin, don't be impulsive." Wen Yan came out to stop him.
She laughed, and the force on Zhang Tian's neck suddenly loosened, but death came even closer to him.
Zhang Tian felt that he couldn't breathe. His nasal cavity and mouth seemed to be covered by water mist, just like a drowning person who couldn't breathe.
Wen Yan saw that something was wrong with Zhang Tian, so he untied his helmet and found that his face had turned purple.
Jiang Lin didn't want to kill the person directly, so she dissipated the water mist.
Zhang Tian was able to breathe again instantly. He ignored the wind and sand and breathed in big gulps, choking on the sand several times.
This woman is simply a devil. Zhang Tian has never seen such a strange power. It seems that every drop of water molecule in the air is at her disposal.
"Cough cough cough, Sheng Wei accidentally coughed and fell from the top of the mountain, and I didn't catch her." Zhang Tian explained while coughing violently.
"Take us there quickly." Jiang Lin wanted to kill him right then and there, but Sheng Wei was nowhere to be found, so he was still useful.
"If we can't even find the body, you'll be buried with her." Jiang Lin said this lightly and dragged Zhang Tian up from the ground like a dead dog.
Those who originally thought that Jiang Lin was just a powerless experimenter were frightened and silently distanced themselves from her.
The strange thing is that Wen Yan's expression didn't change at all, as if he had already known that she was so powerful.
However, Jiang Lin's attention was now focused on Sheng Wei's disappearance, so he didn't notice him.
After entering the barren mountains, the terrain became complicated, and Zhang Tian led the way.
Jiang Lin didn't trust him very much and kept observing the surrounding environment and Zhang Tian's performance.
After circling around the underground of the barren mountain, there was still no sign of Sheng Wei.
"I really didn't lie to you. She should have fallen nearby." Zhang Tian was a little panicked now. He really didn't expect things to turn out like this.
Jiang Lin was too lazy to pay attention to him and started looking around carefully.
Now that the vegetation has died, even in the mountains, the view is very clear, but there are many rocks in this area. If Sheng Wei falls on a rock, it will be very dangerous.
Jiang Lin felt a little resentful of himself for not being more careful.
Wen Yan silently followed her to help search, and when everyone was busy looking for Sheng Wei, Chen Siwei took advantage of everyone's inattention and pulled Zhang Tian to a deserted corner.
"You were also sent by him. What is your mission?" Chen Siwei was a little excited and pulled Zhang Tian's collar with both hands.
"So what if it is, so what if it isn't." Zhang Tian pushed his hand away impatiently.
"I'm in a very dangerous situation now. I didn't expect Jiang Lin to be so scary." He touched his neck, the fear he felt at that time was still vivid in his mind.
"Why, why." Chen Siwei muttered to himself.
"Why? He doesn't trust you. My task, besides helping you get rid of those two women, is to silence you." Zhang Tian looked at him with some disdain.
He had seen from the beginning that Chen Siwei was an indecisive person, so he acted without hesitation. Unexpectedly, he encountered a setback, so he simply told Chen Siwei everything he knew.
"Think more about yourself." Zhang Tian left after saying this. He was in a difficult situation now and had no time to care about the boy's feelings.
On the other side, Jiang Lin was still looking for the traces left by Sheng Wei.
"I'm sorry, Jiang Lin. I made the wrong decision." Wen Yan felt a little guilty.
"I didn't know they were fighting against you two. I thought you were the only one I had to protect."
"What do you mean by protecting me?" Jiang Lin was a little confused.
"Professor Cui asked me to help protect you, but of course I also wanted to do my own thing. I want to find out who is manipulating all of this."
Wen Yan's expression turned slightly cold. The feeling of being secretly stared at by a poisonous snake was really uncomfortable.
"Let's stop talking for now. There's blood here." Jiang Lin interrupted Wen Yan and walked towards the direction where the blood was spreading.
