On the shoreline between the southern part of Piltover and the Piltover Canal, Mel and Anbessa walked one after the other on the marble path.
Mel hasn't seen her mother for ten years. Yesterday, Anbesa suddenly contacted her by telegram and said that she would arrive today, which caught her off guard.
I called Jace, arranged for the Hexgate manned airship tower to be temporarily sealed off, and then hurried out to greet him, but this was the way they met...
Mel stared at the broad figure in front of him, feeling a suffocating feeling in his chest that he couldn't vent. "Mother!"
She called out to Anbesa, and the woman in front also stopped.
"What exactly are you doing in Piltover?" she demanded, her tone unkind. "Why are you still entangled with Du Kekao?"
Anbesa lowered her head and sighed heavily, her voice filled with sadness: "Your brother is gone."
Mel was stunned, and it took a moment for him to react: "What happened?"
Although she had not had much communication with her brother since she was a child, they were blood-thicker-than-water siblings after all. She still felt bad when she heard the news that he was gone.
"He messed with someone he shouldn't have messed with."
Anbesa turned half sideways, her eyes fixed on the waves rising and falling in front of her.
Mel's brother has always been trained by Anbesa as the next head of the Noxian Midarda family.
Although Anbesa once wanted to train her daughter because her eldest son was not a suitable leader, unfortunately, after the war ten years ago, Mel's sympathy for the enemy made her give up this idea.
She would pick a general from among the short ones. Even if her son was not very capable, she would not entrust Midalda to a descendant who would be merciful to the enemy.
This simply won't work in Noxus, where the strong prey on the weak and only the fittest survive.
For Mel, this was a look she had never seen on her usually resilient mother's face.
Considering that the Du Kecao family, who had never been on good terms with Midalda, sent Katarina to Piltover, she could probably guess what had happened to her brother.
"Did my brother offend Swain?"
But just as she asked this, Anbesa's face changed slightly. She took two steps at a time and came to Mel, covering her mouth with her hand, which scared her.
"It's good to know, don't talk nonsense." As he spoke, Anbesa looked around carefully.
Because it is located next to a canal in a relatively suburban area and is quite a distance away from the Sun Gate Wharf in the southern city, this area is sparsely populated and relatively spacious, with basically no blind spots that block the view.
This is also the main reason why Anbesa chose this place to talk to her daughter.
Seeing that no one was around, Anbesa breathed a sigh of relief and released her hand. "Be careful, there are ears behind the walls. It's not just Katarina du Kokao who came to Piltover this time."
Mel is not a fool, so he can naturally understand his mother's voice-over.
The Du Caucasians support Swain, and Katarina is here to spy on her.
But apart from Catalina, the watcher in the open, there seem to be other people waiting in the shadows for an opportunity.
Anbesa clenched his fists, and a "kaka" sound came from the joints between his fingers.
Then she sighed again, her eyes weary as she met Mel's. "I was careless, and it led to an irreversible mistake."
Mel's eyes flashed with surprise at his mother's dejected look, as well as her actions and words just now.
"My brother didn't comply with the Trifarix Decree, a new decree issued by Noxus in the past two years, and was subsequently liquidated... correct?"
Anbesa lowered her head again, hiding the deep sorrow in her eyes. “I didn’t expect you to know this.”
"Times have progressed, and I know a lot more," Meier said. "Besides, the Noxian coup is a major event. As a councilor of the neutral city-state of Piltover, I naturally have to pay close attention to it."
"You've grown up, Mel." Anbesa's lips curled up into a relieved smile. "I heard that you have a friend named Li Lin. He created Hextech armor and can even fly into the sky?"
Mel was stunned for a moment, and her expression, which was originally a little sad, suddenly changed. Annoyance immediately covered her face. "I knew it!"
She said impatiently, walking a few steps away, past her mother.
"Mel!" Anbesa stopped her, "The situation in Noxus remains unstable. The Grand Commander is liquidating all those who resist or intend to resist him. You don't understand his abilities. No one's secrets can escape his gaze!"
Anbesa walked behind her daughter who had stopped walking and continued, "War is about to begin, Mel. Because of your brother's incident, our Medarda clan is in a very precarious situation in Noxus..."
Before she could finish, Mel interrupted her: "You don't have to make excuses for wanting weapons. Li Lin is my friend, but his inventions only represent him. Even the Jiraman family has no right to interfere."
"What about your Jace Talis?" Anbessa still refused to give up. "He invented the Hextech Flygate, so developing new Hextech weapons shouldn't be difficult for him."
“That’s enough!”
Mel turned around and glared at her mother, doing something she had only dared to think about as a child but never dared to do - refute.
"I funded Jayce to develop the Hexgate for the better development of the City of Progress, not to use weapons to make war profits like Noxus!"
She recalled how she had followed other MPs to watch the actual combat of Gaiboga.
The lava monster, which was as big as a hill and was said to have participated in the War of the Void, was completely powerless under Gaiboga's fist.
