Chapter 26 Obeying Traffic Rules Starts with Me; Please Prohibit Mental Illness...
The Wayne brothers were kidnapped, kidnapped in broad daylight.
So how did things turn out this way?
This all started with a circus performance.
Alfred wasn't particularly interested in circus performances; he preferred to give his two brothers time to talk alone rather than watch the show, so he didn't plan to go together.
So the security and driving duties were assigned to Kelvin, who had just officially obtained his driver's license.
Otherwise, we can't exactly let Thomas drive himself, can we? What if he has a mental breakdown and sends everyone flying into the sky?
Why doesn't Gotham City periodically revoke the driver's licenses of people with mental illnesses? This is clearly a major threat to the safety of its citizens!
Kelvin drove while mentally cursing Night Owl and Thomas as two lunatics. He drove very carefully, strictly adhering to traffic laws, going as slow as possible, yielding whenever possible, never overtaking or speeding through flashing yellow lights, and maintaining an unusually calm demeanor.
Of course, anyone with a giant, easily exploded cannonball sitting behind them would obey traffic rules; that's the best way to cure road rage.
Because he strictly followed traffic rules, the kidnappers easily intercepted their car.
When their car was sandwiched between two other vehicles, Kelvin seemed to think the car in the left lane wanted to overtake, so he deliberately slowed down and muttered, "How come any lunatic can get a driver's license (this comment was somewhat tinged with personal grudge), why didn't you turn on your right turn signal when you were trying to overtake..."
Then Bruce interrupted him: "Speed up!"
Something's definitely wrong with this car.
“What? Then I’ll have to speed. What if it overtakes me when I accelerate and crashes into the left side of the car? I don’t want to die.” Kelvin replied, “Do you want to be stuck in the car like a lump of mud and then get blown up with me?”
Kelvin is currently in a state of mental decline; he's not mentally advanced enough to maintain politeness towards his boss's brother under the death threat from his neurotic boss.
However, this level of leak doesn't seem likely to cause an explosion...
Just as he was deep in thought, the car in the left lane overtook him, and another car immediately followed in the left lane. They were also closely followed by another car. Their only way out now was to ram into one of the cars.
Bruce shouted anxiously, "Ram the left car!"
With no oncoming traffic and no barriers between the two sides of the road, crashing into the car on the left is the best option.
But Kelvin completely ignored his commands and rammed the left car? Who knows how good that thing Thomas put on him is? What if it explodes from the impact?
Seeing that Kelvin was completely ignoring instructions, Bruce wished he could snatch the steering wheel from Kelvin himself. But unfortunately, Bruce was sitting in the back seat with Thomas, and he couldn't get over there.
Bruce looked at Thomas, hoping he could order Kelvin to break through the road, only to find Thomas propping his head up with his elbow on the car window, lost in thought.
...
So, am I the only one in this car who cares about safety?
“Don’t look at me,” Thomas said to him. “Do you think a normal person would value their own life more or their boss’s orders more?”
Thomas can't blow up Kelvin now, since he and Bruce are both within the bomb's range.
But a collision certainly won't kill them. If these cars are allowed to run amok, their fate is uncertain. Bruce isn't going to point them in a dead end, so why don't they listen to him?
Bruce didn't have time to think it through; he reminded Thomas, "You're prone to twisting your ankle like that..."
The car on the left crashed into us.
"...twisted wrist."
It was too late. Thomas finally came to his senses, his face grim as he pressed his dislocated wrist back into place, and then consciously fastened his seatbelt.
Kelvin panicked and tried his best to control the steering wheel.
The car on the right crashed into it.
Kelvin lost control and instinctively swerved to the left. Fortunately, Thomas's car was of very high quality and successfully crashed into the left car.
"Drive out of here!" Bruce seized the opportunity to remind Kelvin.
This time, Kelvin listened to Bruce's advice.
But he turned on the right turn signal.
The cars in front and behind reacted immediately; the drivers of both cars were very skilled and successfully pushed Kelvin back.
Finally, Kelvin gradually reduced his speed and turned on his hazard lights before stopping.
"Have you ever considered changing careers?" Bruce asked Kelvin. "It's a bit of a waste of your talents to have you as a bodyguard."
"An assassin?"
"No, you should be a traffic cop. You're the most law-abiding person I've ever met in Gotham."
Thomas interjected, "Kelvin is a pretty good bodyguard..."
"Do you really have to speak up now, Thomas?"
All right.
Thomas slumped in his seat, pulled a bottle of Coke from the car refrigerator, and got splashed with it.
Bruce resignedly took out his phone and secretly gave Alfred his coordinates.
The kidnappers were surprised at how smoothly the interception went; after all, Thomas was a well-known figure in Gotham, and even Night Owl couldn't handle him. Some of the kidnappers, suspecting a trap, cautiously approached them.
It wasn't until Thomas finished half a bottle of Coke that they smashed the car window and used some hypnotic drugs to successfully and safely "invite" a mentally ill person, a semi-mentally ill person, and a normal person out of the car.
Of course, whether some of these people are genuinely dizzy or faking it is another matter entirely.
They were placed in another vehicle, where Bruce feigned unconsciousness and was tied to Thomas while secretly gathering information.
If it were just Bruce alone, he could certainly break through their encirclement immediately, but now some people were still unconscious (yes, after rationally analyzing all the known clues, Thomas believed he wouldn't die here and took the opportunity to catch up on sleep), he wasn't confident he could save two people, so he had to hold his breath and wait for Alfred to rescue him.
With his eyes closed, Bruce could hear the kidnappers talking, but it was all rather trivial stuff.
Finally, they seemed to have arrived at some place. Bruce felt himself and Thomas being dragged out, while Kelvin seemed to be roughly thrown to the ground.
Someone splashed a basin of water on them.
The one pretending to be unconscious knew he should get up, so he acted as if he had just woken up.
The one who was truly dizzy had already woken up and was sulking, tied to a chair with a blank expression.
Ugh, it's so annoying. Anyone could guess with their toes that Kelvin did it on purpose. Otherwise, with Claw and Bruce's combined fighting prowess, the three of them would have escaped long ago.
Unlike now, he was still covered in cola, wet and tied up, wanting to kill someone but unable to actually do so.
Kelvin, the most relaxed person in the room, continued to lie on the ground pretending to be dead, and no one paid any attention to him or even tied him up.
