Chapter 5

Gou Fugui had to admit that Xie Tianlang was an unbelievably powerful guy.

Despite being a mere mortal with no special powers like the Earth to transform, he managed to forcefully rescue people on the stormy sea.

Even the speed at which he rescued people was faster than that of the wealthy sea otter, the number of people he rescued was greater than his, and... he seemed to be breathing less heavily when rescuing people than he was.

It was as if he possessed inexhaustible power; as long as he didn't fall, nothing could defeat him.

If Xie Tianlang's breathing hadn't become rapid and his face hadn't turned noticeably pale, Gou Fugui would have suspected that this guy wasn't a person but a bio-engineered or robotic being.

With such a ruthless person taking action, the effect was quite remarkable—in the half hour after rescuing the little boy, Xie Tianlang single-handedly pulled up forty or fifty people who had fallen into the sea.

Although he managed to pull the people up and gather them together, because they had no shelter to cling to and were extremely weak from fright, choking on water, and injuries, they were almost swept back to the seabed by the waves shortly after being pulled up.

Even though Qin Feng and the other two rushed over and gathered the people who had fallen into the water together and secured them with ropes, some of the weak and injured people still couldn't hold on.

As the situation worsened, Xie Tianlang stared at the sinking ship, contemplating whether to work himself to the bone to remove a steel plate, when the clever, brave, and adorable sea otter Fugui suddenly surfaced with a lifeboat!

Then, the people floating in the sea saw the round little sea otter clinging to the side of the lifeboat, its little neck raised high, babbling and banging on the boat with a large seashell it had picked up from somewhere.

The fluffy, round little thing barked and thrashed at the boat in Xie Tianlang's direction. While everyone was stunned, an unusual gleam appeared in Xie Tianlang's sharp, knife-like eyes. Then, laughing loudly, he dragged the series of people who had fallen into the water to the side of the newly floated lifeboat.

"You truly are my otter. Yuanyuan, well done!"

Sea Otter Fugui rolled his eyes at Xie Langren, who considered himself his master, then stuffed the large seashell he had caught into his pocket and turned to head back towards the cruise ship that was about to sink.

The cruise ship didn't have enough lifeboats because the huge waves and strong winds caused it to suddenly capsize, preventing the ship from immediately launching the lifeboats that were secured by chains.

In the rush, the crew at sea could only drop off many inflatable life rafts that could be deployed immediately on the sea surface, but because the life rafts were small, many people who fell into the water were left without a place to go.

Even after the crew pressed the button to unlock the lifeboats, the lifeboats on the sunken side were stuck due to pressure and could not be fully released, so they could not float to the surface. At this point, if someone could dive into the sea and use external force to push those stuck lifeboats that were not fully released, there was still a certain chance of pushing the underwater lifeboats back to the surface.

Of course, if we're lucky, a few of the fully enclosed lifeboats that were unlocked on board might be able to float to the surface once the cruise ship has completely sunk.

But now, it's clear that a highly skilled diver is needed to take action. However, given the current weather and wave conditions, as well as the size of the massive ship that's sinking rapidly, even a top-notch diver would likely face a near-certain death.

But for the sea otter Fugui, it was just a little difficult. It just required... all his might.

After all, he's just a sea otter who likes to rub his face and sunbathe; he doesn't possess the immense strength of a wild beast at all.

So, in the next half hour, the survivors of this maritime disaster experienced something they would never forget, something that would still feel magical and heartwarming whenever they recalled it—

They watched that little sea otter relentlessly dive into the sea to find or launch boats of hope for them, witnessing its perseverance and unwavering courage.

Later, the little cutie ran out of strength, so its handsome owner came up with a way to make it less strenuous. The little cutie carried a hook rope on its back, found the lifeboat that was being held capsized underwater, hooked onto it, and then everyone worked together to pull the rope, which allowed them to pull the capsized lifeboat up.

Finally, like a dreamlike miracle, of the twenty fully enclosed lifeboats on the Sparkling Crystal, in addition to the four that were initially lowered, seven more were found by this little sea otter and pulled aboard!

In addition to the fully enclosed lifeboat, the little guy also found sixteen inflatable life rafts that had not been opened!

When the lifeboats were full and the life rafts were all deployed, the survivors looked around in disbelief:

"...Has everyone boarded the lifeboats?"

"It seems so. It seems like there are several soldiers and brothers and sisters who are good at diving and swimming who are helping to rescue people. The lifeboats and life rafts have been found again. They have rescued everyone who could be saved while they were floating at sea!"

"My God... this is simply a miracle... I thought I was going to die..."

"Statistically speaking, this is indeed a miracle. After all, once a giant cruise ship is wrecked, the survival rate of the people on board is basically no more than 30%. That sea otter... played a big role." The speaker was a young man wearing glasses who looked like he had a lot of professional knowledge. At this moment, he looked at the sea otter Fugui next to him with shining eyes.

"That sea otter and the guy who raises it are amazing! I never knew sea otters were so smart and capable! It's completely changed my worldview."

"Mommy! Did the otter save us? But the otter seems exhausted!"

The woman held her little daughter in her arms amidst the wind and waves. Looking at the little creature lying on the life raft not far away, panting and clutching its belly, a smile appeared on her pale and tired face: "So let's keep our voices down and not let the crying disturb it."

So the little girl and the other younger children on the lifeboat nodded seriously. They were also very scared, but when they saw the small figure struggling to find the lifeboat in the storm, shaking its head and continuing to dive down even when the waves slammed against its head, they suddenly had the courage to face the black ocean and the storm.

Even a tiny sea otter isn't afraid or cry; they must be strong.

Gou Fugui lay sprawled on the inflatable life raft, feeling that his otter life was nearing its end. Even though he had transformed into Fugui, a sea otter who could float freely on the sea, this round of diving, searching, and hooking had exhausted him greatly.

He doesn't want to do anything but eat right now! But the worst part is that he doesn't even have the strength to go out to sea to find food; he can only lie there like a corpse.

Sea Otter Fugui didn't regret going into the sea to find the lifeboat; after all, it was a rescue operation. But he was genuinely hungry, and if someone were to offer to feed him at that moment, he would…

Suddenly, a meaty aroma wafted to my nose.

Sea otter Fugui twitched his large, diamond-shaped black nose and suddenly opened his black grape-like eyes.

A piece of greasy luncheon meat was right in front of his mouth. Without thinking, Sea Otter Fugui opened his mouth and took a big bite of meat!

"Mmm!" How delicious this is! I'm so touched!

Sea otter Fugui couldn't help but happily rub his face with his two little paws. Sure enough, having a big meal after finishing work is the best way to reward the body!

So, because he was too hungry and too engrossed in eating, the sea otter Fugui completely forgot that the person feeding him was Xie Tianlang, whom he had been calling his son in his mind. After he finished eating three cans of luncheon meat and four dried fish, he was shocked to find that he had been held in Xie Tianlang's arms at some point, and even his fur had been stroked all over his body!

"Holy crap?!"

Xie Tianlang, who was petting an otter, paused and looked suspiciously at the fluffy, round creature in his arms: "You just... shouted 'fuck'?"

Sea Otter Fugui's body stiffened slightly, then he screamed "Damn it!" in his mind.

You got fucking groped from head to toe, aren't you going to fuck me?! But his furry sea otter face didn't show a hint of that; instead, he howled even more unreasonably at Xie Tianlang:

"Aaaaaah! Aaaaaah!" If Daddy could speak human language and reveal his identity, do you believe he would curse your ancestors for eighteen generations in every possible way?

But Xie Tianlang wasn't surprised by his howling. After all, humans hadn't even fully heard the barks of cats and dogs, so the howl of a sea otter in a post-apocalyptic world... might just be enough to make him scream.

Xie Tianlang reached out and flicked the sea otter Fugui's diamond-shaped black nose: "Stop howling, save your energy. The storm hasn't passed yet... Sanchuan just barely determined our location, it's still at least six days away from the East Continent coast."

"And this wave of sea storms is not over yet. It is very likely that we will face an even bigger wave of sea storms in two days."

Gou Fugui inevitably thought of the giant wave he first saw in the distance when he fell from the sky—a towering wall where the sea and sky met. He guessed that the wave wasn't coming in their direction, otherwise, none of the people here would have survived.

But if other places at sea can have such big waves, how can this place not be affected?

That's probably how the huge storm that capsized that cruise ship came about.

So, I really need to get ashore as soon as possible!

The sea otter Fugui started unconsciously rubbing its face and grooming its fur, not giving the otter any peace of mind.

Getting ashore isn't so easy. Even if the lifeboats were running at full speed, it would still take six days in the current stormy weather. And the lifeboats don't have enough energy stored for six days.

The survivors then began to connect all the lifeboats and life rafts together with ropes. The surviving first mate of the cruise ship began to speak; he was a very capable-looking man in his forties:

"I'm sorry that the Crystal Brilliant was unable to bring everyone back safely this time. But the sudden storm at sea was something none of us anticipated, and the previous marine weather forecasts did not detect it either. This is something I must ask about when I get back."

"Perhaps this major storm at sea is related to the sudden increase in global rainfall in recent months. Some cities experienced flooding after a month of continuous rain, but we did not expect the rain to have such a strong impact on the ocean."

"However, although we suffered a shipwreck, we were all very lucky. Perhaps we were blessed by the sea spirits, which is why more than half of us survived the storm."

"But we can't relax yet. The tech-savvy guy next to me has detected that we're still in the storm zone, and there might be an even more terrifying storm waiting for us in the next two days."

"Therefore, in the next two days, we must work together to overcome this difficulty!"

"Now let me assign tasks. First, while the waves have calmed down a bit, the injured should quickly bandage their wounds, and those who are dizzy or tired should take the time to rest."

Those with spare capacity took turns using tools from the lifeboats and life rafts to scavenge floating debris in the surrounding area; these might just be what saves their lives in the coming days.

"Then two or three people from each lifeboat and life raft will sort out the supplies on the lifeboat and life raft. In the following days, food will be distributed evenly and reasonably to ensure our minimum survival needs."

"Finally, let's compile a list of everyone on the lifeboats and life rafts. If anyone has anything to say, feel free to write it down in the handbook... Although I hope we all make it to shore successfully, no one can guarantee that the list won't be wrong if it's incorrect?"

Seeing the tense and dejected expressions on the faces of those around him, the first mate quickly pointed to the sea otter Fugui, who was still lying on Xie Tianlang's lap, listening intently to the first mate. He said in a lighthearted tone, "Don't be too discouraged, everyone. We've already received help from the lucky sea otter, and I believe we'll all make it back alive in the end!"

Then almost everyone turned their attention to the little sea otter who was casually rubbing its face, and inexplicably, everyone's mood actually relaxed a bit.

Yes, with Lucky Otter Yuan Yuan around, they'll definitely be able to get through this!

The sea otter, Fugui, rubbing his face: "...Huh?" Wait, what's with that relieved look on your faces all of a sudden? I'm just a sea otter, not Paul the Octopus, okay?!

Regardless, everyone then began to act in an orderly manner.

As a skilled diver, the sea otter Fugui naturally became a member of the salvage team. At this point, he finally had time to catch some food and equipment for himself in preparation for coming ashore in a few days.

Author's Note:

Otter Fortune, the lucky star of the sea: Pray to me, and I will keep you safe.

Gou Fugui: I will not eat food offered with contempt!

...

Gou Fugui: Canned food is really delicious.

Otter Rich: Damn it, don't pet me!

Xie Tianlang: Do sea otters say "fuck"?
