Chapter 26 Detective Science's Method of Solving Cases

"Officer Yokomizo!" Before Kogoro Mouri could start spouting nonsense, Conan approached, stood on tiptoe, tugged at Detective Yokomizo's clothes, and handed him a note.

"Uncle Mori just said to ask the police officer to help prepare 'this', because we'll need it for the deduction later."

Detective Yokomizo had long been accustomed to seeing Conan as Kogoro Mouri's assistant and spokesperson, so he had no doubts about him.

But upon seeing Mingzhi enter the lobby, he hesitated, as if startled.

Having understood his expression, Mingzhi nodded proactively.

The detective from Henggou immediately breathed a sigh of relief and ordered several officers to carry it out.

Yoruichi Toyama couldn't help but smile.

"Aren't you afraid people will say, 'Even Inspector Akechi is convinced by the sleeping Kogoro'?"

Mingzhi reached out and adjusted his glasses.

"Do you think that police officers have nothing else to do besides deduction?"

...Of course I know.

Yoruichi Toyama's smile deepened.

The so-called "reasoning" is merely using logic to explain the "possibility" that the suspect committed the crime in this way.

But detectives usually don't help find evidence.

Or rather, the detective's so-called "evidence" can only leave those in the know, such as the real culprit, speechless.

What the judicial authorities need is a complete chain of evidence.

Even in the cases solved by Shinichi Kudo, the "savior of the Japanese police," Inspector Megure was always there to clean up the mess.

However, since it's the Shizuoka Prefectural Police who's going to take the blame this time, Akechi is probably happy to give Conan a chance to perform.

Meanwhile, Kogoro Mouri began his impassioned speech after seeing everyone gathered.

"...So, the one who impersonated 'Baron of the Night' and attacked Ms. Akiko Sayama and Ran was you—former karate champion Satoshi Maeda!"

"Just like that young master... Inspector Akechi said, you must have thought that the clothes you put on Mr. Jiangyuan would have your traces on them, and you were afraid that the police would find out, so you stole the clothes back."

"You had a brilliant idea: you disguised yourself as the 'Dark Baron' and reappeared in front of others, making them think the murderer had reappeared."

"But you've made things worse, and Xiaolan recognized you by your skills... Wait, Xiaolan? Where's Xiaolan?"

Just as Kogoro was looking around, hoping to get his daughter to come out and testify, Ran rushed out of the elevator, followed by two unfamiliar young women.

"Dad...Dad! I...I found...evidence that Mr. Maeda is not the murderer!"

"What?"

Not only Kogoro, but everyone present, except for Conan who was already confident, Yoruichi Toyama who knew the details of the case, and Akechi who was just watching the show, all experienced a shock to their eyes.

What kind of drama is this, where the daughter of a famous detective overturns the detective's reasoning?

Before Kogoro could ask any more questions, Ran, who had just caught her breath, blurted out the whole story.

Satoshi Maeda was initially placed on the suspect list because Mr. Ehara did not have an alibi when he fell from the building.

However, Xiaolan found two hotel guests who were fans of Satoshi Maeda. They had pestered him for his autograph earlier that night and even exchanged a few words with him.

Because the fan requested a signature and the date and time, both parties carefully checked their watches, and it was exactly 10:03.

It was exactly 3 minutes after Mr. Jiang Yuan fell from the building.

Three minutes was clearly not enough time for Maeda Satoshi to leave Mr. Ebara's room and get to the hotel observation deck where he met the fan.

In any case, Maeda Satoshi could not possibly be the murderer of Mr. Ebara.

Before this, Xiaolan had been missing, and was going from room to room like a police officer, searching for evidence to prove the innocence of her idolized karate senior.

“This young lady has the potential to be a police officer,” Mingzhi said with an appreciative look and a smile.

Yoruichi Toyama and Conan both clicked their tongues almost simultaneously.

“I’m telling you, don’t try to recruit a promising young man to be a policeman just because you see him,” Yoruichi Toyama said in a low voice.

"Who was it that was complaining to me for ages about how bad it is to be a policeman?"

Xiao Lan also waved and smiled at the same time.

"Actually, I was influenced by a detective who was just as good as my father..."

“He told me that we should fight with all our might until the very last moment and never give up.”

"Huh?" Under the curious and inquisitive gazes of everyone, Conan blushed without anyone noticing.

This proves that Maeda Satoshi could not be the murderer, but the reasoning has also reached a dead end.

Kogoro Mouri began scratching his head in frustration.

Conan, having recovered from the shyness of falling in love, quietly circled around the detective's back and knocked him out with a tranquilizer dart.

With a "thump," Kogoro slumped into the chair, striking a rather cool pose.

Yoruichi Toyama nudged Akechi beside him with his elbow.

"The show has begun."

Kogoro, who seemed to be asleep and didn't even move his mouth, could still speak. The onlookers didn't suspect anything; they just stared at him curiously.

Yoruichi Toyama couldn't help but marvel once again at the wonder of Detective Conan.

Akechi's eyes flickered, and just as he was about to speak, Conan replied, "Okay," and ran out from behind Kogoro.

People who were used to him being Kogoro's assistant watched him run out of the lobby and wave to the sky from outside the hotel.

Then came the sound of a huge, dull object hitting the ground.

In an instant, everyone present couldn't help but recall the scene not long ago when "Dark Baron" descended from the sky.

Everyone rushed out like a swarm of bees.
