Chapter 357 Questions and Answers

As a top-tier science fiction writer in China and a first-rate writer on a global scale, Liu Cixin has participated in numerous official meetings, both large and small, held by the Chinese government.

This is the second time I've seen a meeting with such a high level of secrecy.

Previously, when magic was mentioned, he went to a government meeting. This time, the level of secrecy was just as high as that one.

Sitting in a pitch-black car, with no communication devices on my body except for my clothes, and the car's sound insulation was excellent.

Liu was a little uneasy. He guessed that they wanted to talk to him about the impact of virtual reality on society, and maybe even discuss the future.

"Mr. Liu, you don't need to be nervous at all. Just like last time, we hope to use your rich experience in the field of science fiction to provide some guidance for our work."

Da Liu chuckled and said, "I'm not worried. I'm just afraid that I won't meet your expectations of me."

"It's nothing. We just hoped that you could inspire us."

It would be best if it could be helpful, but it's okay if it can't.

Don't put too much pressure on yourself.

Da Liu: "The questions I answered last time I was in this car weren't so casual."

I feel that each of those questions requires me to think for a long time before I can give a very basic answer.

It was even harder than writing my graduation thesis back in college.

"This time it won't be the same as last time; this time we will do it through dialogue."

Once you arrive at the location, someone will come and have a talk with you.

Please understand that the conversation will be recorded.

The person specifically in charge of reception fell silent after saying this.

Da Liu also fell silent.

He wasn't a talkative person to begin with.

Generally, authors express their urges in their works. They may talk a lot in front of the camera because they are constrained by their desire to express themselves, but very few writers talk a lot in private.

Liu prefers to express himself through gestures on forums rather than words.

While sitting in the car, Da Liu's thoughts were scattered and he couldn't form a coherent logic.

Upon arriving at the destination and entering a simply furnished room, Da Liu found himself sitting opposite a middle-aged man with a distressed expression.

Looking at his face, you would feel that this person must have suffered a lot in the first half of his life; he is a typical middle-aged man from the lower class in China.

Liu Cixin would never judge a book by its cover; anyone sitting here talking to him could not be an ordinary person.

"Mr. Liu, I've heard so much about you. I've always loved your works. I've read the Three-Body Problem series more than once. You can call me Mr. Chen."

Da Liu guessed that this surname wasn't the other person's real surname, but it didn't matter.

He knew that this was the only chance he would have to see the man; once he left this door, he would probably never see this man surnamed Chen again in his life.

"Thank you for your appreciation. I am where I am today because of my readers."

"I won't go into any more pleasantries. Mr. Liu, the various awards you've received, as well as your globally published works, are enough to prove your abilities."

I'd like to ask a question: what is your view on the Dark Forest Theory you mentioned in *The Three-Body Problem*?

Da Liu was somewhat surprised, but not too surprised: "This is just for the service settings."

Although it seems reasonable, this is just my personal conjecture.

It cannot escape the limitations of my own understanding of the true nature of the universe.

Liu is very modest, and he truly believes so.

"In some interviews, I have repeatedly stated that I do not believe that the universe described by the Dark Forest Theory is the real universe."

The reason for this structure in The Three-Body Problem is due to the needs of the plot.

The plot requires this setup, so that the Trisolarans' behavior has a logical basis.

I think the possibilities regarding the true state of the universe can be roughly divided into three categories: the best possibility, the one that is neither good nor bad, and the worst possibility.

In the first type, life in the universe is fully respected, and the universe has a unified and high moral law. My books, "The Road to Enlightenment" and "The Village Teacher," describe this type of universe.

The second type is similar to Earth, where there is hatred and friendship between people and between civilizations, as well as mutual help and mutual oppression.

The worst universe is one with zero morality and a zero-sum game, where the struggle for survival rules everything.

Another simple reason for creating the Dark Forest Theory is that a bleak future makes it easier to tell compelling stories.

The middle-aged man sitting opposite continued to ask: "Now there is this kind of logic."

For extraterrestrial civilizations with a certain level of technology, the only thing of value to them is knowledge about a planet with intelligent life.

Knowledge that their native civilization lacked, or rather, was unaware of.

Scientists within the Chinese government have also engaged in numerous discussions surrounding Zheng Li's remarks.

People don't blindly believe Zheng Li's statements.

There are quite a few people who think Zheng Li is a sinister alien.

The reason I sought out Liu Cixin was to gain some inspiration from a different perspective.

After considering it for a moment, Liu said:

"My personal opinion is that we need to see just how advanced the technology of this civilization is."

From an overall perspective, I think that's correct.

However, such absolute statements still require analysis based on specific circumstances.

For example, African countries have little industrial base, yet they are able to integrate into the global economic system of the entire planet.
