Chapter 24 The Su Family, Old Master Su's Misunderstanding?

By the time Xie Wei took Su Miaomiao back to the Su family home, it was already completely dark. Xie Wei's car was parked in front of the Su family's old residence.

Xie Wei looked at Su Miaomiao, who wiggled her bare, silk-stockinged feet to indicate that she was barefoot and needed Xie Wei's help.

Xie Wei thought that since they were already at the other person's doorstep, it would be impolite not to go in and sit down. So he nodded and told Su Miaomiao to wait in the car. Xie Wei got out of the car, walked to the other side of the car door, opened the door, and scooped Su Miaomiao up in his arms through his coat in one smooth motion.

Xie Wei carried Su Miaomiao to the entrance of the Su family's old house, and Su Miaomiao sensibly knocked on the door.

While waiting for someone to open the door, perhaps because she had been startled earlier, she hadn't noticed Xie Wei's embrace. Now, held in Xie Wei's arms, surrounded by his scent, Su Miaomiao's face flushed slightly.

On the other hand, Xie Wei was also not feeling well. He didn't know if it was the cold sweat he had just broken out from being frightened or the sweat he had produced while struggling along the way. The scent of sweat mixed with his body odor, constantly assaulting Xie Wei's senses and making him daydream.

After a while, someone finally opened the door. It was the Su family's old butler. When the old butler saw the scene before him, he was slightly taken aback for a moment, then smiled broadly and let them in.

Xie Wei carried Su Miaomiao and followed her directions to the second floor of the Su family's old house. The design of the Su family's old house was similar to a courtyard house, but it was three stories high. The second floor that Xie Wei came to was on the west side.

Upon reaching the second floor, one sees two rooms and a living room. One room is for Su Miaomiao, and the other is for Su Miaomiao's younger sister, Su Tang. Xie Wei placed Su Miaomiao on the sofa in the living room, knowing better than to casually enter a girl's room.

The old butler found a pair of slippers from somewhere, handed them to Su Miaomiao, and then turned to tell Xie Wei, "Master is waiting in the main hall."

Xie Wei nodded, said thank you, and was about to take a step.

Su Miaomiao quickly stood up and said, "I'll go with you." Then she and Xie Wei walked down side by side.

Upon arriving at the main hall, Grandpa Su was enjoying a book and tea. Seeing Xie Wei and the other person approach, he slowly closed his book and happily invited Xie Wei to sit down.

"The old butler has already told me everything. He said that the Xie family's son carried our eldest princess back in a princess carry." Old Master Su had a gossipy look on his face, his gaze shifting back and forth between the two.

Seeing Grandpa Su's expression, Xie Wei knew he had misunderstood. He was about to explain when Su Miaomiao spoke first.

"It's all Xie Wei's fault. He invited me out today, and I accidentally twisted my ankle a little. It was nothing serious, but he made a big deal out of it and carried me back."

After saying that, she pretended to be shy and ran over to take Grandpa Su's hand, saying, "Grandpa, look, I'm still alive and kicking!"

Grandpa Su grinned from ear to ear, saying "Good, good, good" three times. "I thought the two of you would have a falling out because of our arrangements, but I didn't expect things to go so smoothly."

Hearing what Grandpa Su said, Xie Wei wanted to say something, but then he saw Su Miaomiao, who had returned to his side at some point, tugging at his sleeve.

Xie Wei turned his head and saw Su Miaomiao shaking her head slightly, her eyes filled with a hint of pleading. Xie Wei understood that she didn't want Old Master Su to worry at his advanced age, so he hesitated to speak.

Just then, Grandpa Su spoke up, "What are you whispering about? Can't Grandpa hear it?" Grandpa Su laughed even more heartily at Xie Wei and Su Miaomiao's actions.

"You've come back so late and haven't had dinner yet, have you? I just asked the kitchen to make some new dishes. If you're hungry, you can go and eat some."

Having not eaten lunch and having lost her appetite after being frightened, Su Miaomiao, who had returned to the Su family home without eating anything, was already starving. As soon as she heard there was food in the kitchen, she ran out.

Grandpa Su looked at his granddaughter's actions with a doting smile, then turned to Xie Wei, who was still sitting in his seat drinking tea, and his expression instantly turned serious.

"Young Master Xie," Old Master Su narrowed his eyes slightly, controlling his emotions but revealing a hint of anger in his voice, "I'm not stupid. Miaomiao came back without shoes, and I just saw red marks on her hands and feet. When has our Su family's princess ever been subjected to such humiliation!"

Xie Wei knew that the old master Su was wise enough that Su Miaomiao's words could not fool him. Presumably, the old master Su had already guessed what would happen today when he ordered the kitchen to prepare the meal.

At this moment, Xie Wei had already placed the teacup on the table, stood up and bowed slightly. "Grandpa Su is very perceptive. Please pretend you don't know about this matter. Miss Su doesn't want you to worry, so she will let the younger generation handle it."

After pondering for a moment, Old Master Su waved his hand, gesturing for Xie Wei to sit down. "Alright, Xie family lad, I trust you with your work. You young people should handle your own affairs."

He then added, "It's getting late, why don't you stay at the Su family's house tonight? There are clean clothes for guests upstairs in the south."

Before Xie Wei could say anything, Grandpa Su stood up and said, "It's decided then. You can go and have something to eat too." Then he left.

Although the Su family's old house is similar to a courtyard house, there is no distinction of rank. The elders live in the east room, the younger generation lives in the west room, and guests can stay in the north or south rooms.

Xie Wei had no choice but to call Xu Daiwei and tell her that he would be staying at a friend's house tonight and that she didn't need to leave the door open for him. Xu Daiwei was very understanding and didn't ask any questions, only telling him to go home early.

Xie Wei arrived at the restaurant. Su Miaomiao swallowed what was in her mouth when she saw Xie Wei. "So, did Grandpa doubt what we just said?"
