Chapter 44 Mu Yao and Little Orange

On his way home from the orphanage, Xie Wei unexpectedly witnessed a scene and met an unexpected person.

It was the girl in the photo in Mu Qingcheng's office. Xie Wei remembered that her name was written in the previous investigation materials; it seemed to be Mu Yao.

The little girl had her beige hair tied in a high ponytail and wore a modified school uniform. The striped shirt was oversized and instead of being properly tucked into her skirt, it covered the shortened JK pleated skirt, leaving her two fair legs exposed.

She had sunglasses hanging on her head, and bandages on her forearms—whether from an injury or decoration—along with bubble socks and pearl shoes, she looked every bit the rebellious girl.

At this moment, Mu Yao seemed to be in trouble. In a deep alley not far from the intersection, three thugs stood in front of her, blowing hooligans and approaching her, as if they wanted to force her into the alley to do something.

Mu Yao has a well-proportioned figure and is 1.65 meters tall in high school, which is considered tall for a girl, but she still doesn't look good next to the three people who are 1.7 meters tall.

'Why do I always run into situations where I need to be a hero to save the damsel in distress?' Xie Wei was thinking to himself as he opened the car door, ready to get out and help out.

In the blink of an eye, the little girl appeared, quickly beating the three men to the ground. She even bent down to wipe her shoes, as if she was annoyed that they had dirtied them.

As soon as Mu Yao stood up, she saw Xie Wei in the car. She reached into her pocket, took out a bubble gum, put it in her mouth, and tilted her head in Xie Wei's direction, looking at him with a hint of confusion.

Xie Wei smiled, shrugged, and got into the car.

Mu Yao walked out of the alley, but to her surprise, a blond-haired man behind her picked up a brick, stood up, and was about to hit Mu Yao on the head.

Xie Wei couldn't help but shout "Watch out!" Mu Yao reacted quickly, turning around and delivering a side kick that swiftly and accurately knocked the brick out of Huang Mao's hand. Huang Mao clutched his wrist in pain and cried out.

Mu Yao looked at her shoes and saw that one of them was broken. She felt a little sorry for them, as she quite liked them.

Xie Wei was about to leave when he saw Mu Yao staring blankly at his shoes. Then he saw Mu Yao's shoes and instantly understood.

While Mu Yao was still debating whether to walk back to school barefoot, Xie Wei appeared in front of her just as she finally made up her mind to leave. He was carrying a shoe box and a bag.

Seeing the wariness in the girl's eyes, Xie Wei wisely put the things on the ground and turned to leave.

Mu Yao hurriedly tugged at Xie Wei's sleeve, "Let me help you up," Mu Yao said. The girl's voice was quite gentle, which was quite different from her usual way of doing things.

Xie Wei nodded and extended his forearm.

Mu Yao supported Xie Wei's arm, and Xie Wei did not make any other movements. Mu Yao opened the shoe box and found that the shoes inside were the same style of pearl shoes as hers, except that the color had changed from black to beige.

Mu Yao guessed that Xie Wei bought the shoes at a nearby shopping mall. She had seen them when she was browsing that brand earlier, but she didn't expect them to end up in her hands in this way. After changing the shoes, she said thank you.

Xie Wei felt that the girl's personality didn't seem as rebellious as it appeared. She was actually quite polite. He smiled, nodded, and drove away.

Mu Yao opened the bag and found some scar removal cream, bandages, and the like. Looking at the spot on her calf that had just been scratched by brick fragments, she muttered, "What a strange person."

Although she said that, she still admired Xie Wei's manners. His eyes were clear when he looked at her; Mu Yao was quite confident in her appearance. He didn't dart around when putting things away, and when she changed her shoes, he even turned slightly to shield her from view.

Having followed Mu Qingcheng around, Mu Yao had seen all sorts of people, but Xie Wei was someone she had never met before. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Xie Wei was strange.

Mu Yao felt she had seen Xie Wei's face somewhere before. Unable to remember, she simply stopped thinking about it.

She had sneaked out at noon, and if she didn't return to the dorm at this hour and the dorm supervisor found out, she knew she would be in for a huge search. Not wanting to cause trouble for others, Mu Yao continued chewing her gum and went back to school.

According to Xie Wei's investigation, Mu Yao became a boarding student because Mu Qingcheng was usually quite busy. To ensure Mu Yao's safety, Mu Qingcheng did not make Mu Yao's identity public.

Mu Yao attended No. 1 High School, one of the best high schools in the capital. Because of her grades and her overall demeanor, Mu Yao didn't have a good reputation among her teachers.

The issue of academic performance is also a major concern for many teachers. Those who are admitted to the top high school must have had decent middle school entrance exam scores, so why do their scores seem to be worse after entering the top high school?

According to her classmates, Mu Yao often hung out with students from vocational schools near the high school, and didn't seem like a good student... Aside from being pretty, she didn't seem to have any other redeeming qualities. This resulted in Mu Yao having very few friends.

The few comments from Mu Yao's friends all say that Mu Yao is polite, righteous, principled, and generous, unlike what she appears to be.

Xie Wei lost the report after reading it. Xie Wei wasn't blind, so he wouldn't get to know another person from someone else's words.

After seeing Mu Yao, Xie Wei missed Mu Qingcheng a little. He mainly wanted to tease her, so he used his phone to call Mu Qingcheng's work number.

The mayor's assistant answered the phone, which Xie Wei thought was normal. He explained his purpose to her, still using the cooperation on anti-cancer drugs as an excuse.

The mayor's assistant handed the phone to Mu Qingcheng. Hearing that it was Xie Wei calling, Mu Qingcheng was filled with mixed emotions. After a few seconds, she answered.
