Chapter 65 Memories (Part 3): Confession

While Bai Qianqian and the fat man were chatting, they casually brought up Xie Wei's past.

When Xie Wei first arrived, he didn't know Qi Shou and the others. After learning about Xie Wei's identity, they were all arrogant young men who wondered why Xie Wei was superior to them. Another reason was that wherever Xie Wei was, the girls' eyes would only be on him, which made the boys very resentful.

At that time, Lu Yan and Xu Daiwei were still in junior high school, and Xie Wei could be considered to have few friends at No. 1 Middle School.

It wasn't until Xie Wei was on his way home that he saw Qi Shou and his friends fighting with people from the vocational high school. Xie Wei was just passing by, but the people opposite him saw Xie Wei's school uniform and assumed that he was a helper that Qi Shou and his friends had called over, so they went up to provoke him.

Xie Wei hadn't wanted to get involved, finding it troublesome, but now that the other side had jumped right in front of him, it seemed like he wouldn't be able to go home if he didn't resolve this matter.

So the fat guy and his friends saw Xie Wei take on the vocational high school students by himself, defeat them all, and then leave with a dashing back view.

After that, Qi Shou and the others recognized Xie Wei as their elder brother and stayed by his side.

'I knew he was good at fighting, but I didn't expect him to be this good,' Bai Qianqian thought after listening to Qi Shou and the others.

"What? Are you talking about me?" Xie Wei, who had appeared behind Bai Qianqian at some point, spoke calmly.

The fat man quickly shook his head. "It was because the fairy wanted to know that we mentioned it."

"Oh? You want to know more about me?" Xie Wei said with a faint smile. "Why don't you come and ask me yourself?"

Bai Qianqian, afraid that her little secret would be discovered, blushed slightly and quickly said, "No, it was just something we mentioned casually, just chatting about it."

Upon hearing Bai Qianqian's words, Xie Wei did not react at all, but simply returned to his seat with the same smile as before.

...

After school, Xie Wei played billiards with Qi Shou and the others for a while. Around 10 p.m., Xie Wei was riding his bike back to his apartment.

When they were about a quarter of the way there, Xie Wei spotted Bai Qianqian, who was wearing a school uniform and about to bend down to tie her shoelaces.

"Xie Wei, what are you doing here?" Xie Wei stopped his car in front of Bai Qianqian. Bai Qianqian looked up and saw Xie Wei wearing a helmet. Although only his eyes were visible, Bai Qianqian still recognized him.

"I was about to ask you the same thing. What are you doing here so late?" This road is Xie Wei's only way back to his apartment, and it's in the exact opposite direction from where Bai Qianqian lives. Bai Qianqian shouldn't be here at this hour.

“There’s a hotel here that’s short-staffed, so I’ll work part-time here,” Bai Qianqian replied quietly.

Xie Wei remembered that there was indeed a hotel a little further on, so he didn't say anything more. He simply got out of the car, took off his helmet, and put it on the girl's head.

Bai Qianqian looked at Xie Wei with a puzzled expression, seemingly unaware of the meaning behind his actions.

"Put it on, I'll take you home. There are no buses running at this hour. Do you want to walk back?" Xie Wei saw the confusion in the girl's eyes and explained, "Even if you want to walk back, I'm not comfortable letting you walk back alone now."

Xie Wei put the helmet on the girl's head, bent down to adjust it to a suitable size, and then squatted down to tie Bai Qianqian's shoelaces.

The girl seemed a little taken aback by Xie Wei's actions. By the time she came to her senses, Xie Wei had already gotten into the car and gestured for her to get in as well.

Bai Qianqian sat behind Xie Wei, holding onto the hem of his clothes. Xie Wei glanced at the girl, then took her hand and made her hug him tightly before setting off.

Bai Qianqian's face was completely red under the helmet as she recalled Xie Wei's actions and words.

'Does he like me even a little bit?'

As soon as the idea came to mind, Bai Qianqian rejected it, quickly being overwhelmed by the thoughts from that night, and gave a bitter smile.

When Bai Qianqian was taken to the orphanage, an elderly man, probably in his forties, was waiting at the door.

When Xie Wei stopped the car, he helped Bai Qianqian take off her helmet. Bai Qianqian got off the car and quickly ran to the old man's side.

"Grandma Dean, what are you doing here?"

"I saw you hadn't come back so late. Guoguo and the others are asleep. I was worried something might have happened to you outside, so I waited here for you," said the old man who was called the dean.

Xie Wei got out of the car and bowed slightly in greeting.

"And who is this?" Dean Zhang asked Bai Qianqian when he saw Xie Wei.

"This is my classmate, Xie Wei. I was doing a part-time job and forgot the time. There were no more buses, and he happened to be passing by, so he gave me a ride home," Bai Qianqian introduced Xie Wei and explained why she was late.

"You silly girl, I told you to just focus on your studies, and now you're doing part-time jobs. The orphanage's expenses are enough, you don't need to worry about it." It seems this isn't the first time Director Zheng has said this.

Bai Qianqian just smiled and said, "Okay, okay, you should go back and rest."

"Hey, you little rascal, I saved you some late-night snacks, come in and have some," Dean Zheng said to Bai Qianqian, then turned to Xie Wei with a smile and said, "Classmate, it's so late, why don't you come and get something too?"

Xie Wei was about to refuse when he felt Bai Qianqian tug at his sleeve and say in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Please say yes. This is the Dean's way of thanking you for bringing me back; otherwise, she would feel bad."

Hearing what Bai Qianqian said, Xie Weichao nodded to Dean Zhang, who smiled and went back into the house.

The late-night snack was a bowl of noodle soup and a few vegetable leaves. Thinking that Xie Wei was coming, Bai Qianqian put all the meat into Xie Wei's bowl. Even so, Bai Qianqian still felt that Xie Wei was being treated unfairly.

"If you don't want to eat, you don't have to," Bai Qianqian said to Xie Wei.

To Bai Qianqian's surprise, Xie Wei had already started eating. Hearing Bai Qianqian's words, Xie Wei stopped, swallowed what was in his mouth, and said, "Ah? I think it's quite delicious."
