Chapter 149: Feeling Isolated from the World

This year is the second year of the Qingming Festival holiday, and more college students choose to travel.

Guo Xinyue and Sun Qimiao are going to Shidu with everyone from the Student Union. It is said to be known as the "Little Guilin of the North".

"Miao Miao, can you really bungee jump there?"

"Of course, but I never dared to jump."

When Huang Miao heard about bungee jumping, he immediately became interested.

"I want to go too. Shall we go with your student union?"

"Of course, each person pays 200 yuan, and the excess will be refunded or supplemented."

So, the three people in dormitory 307 decided to go to Shidu, while Jian Yunxi and Lu Yang were going to Cuandixia Village.

Although the scenic spots are all in Beijing, Cuandixia Village is farther away.

"Yunxi, there's a big temperature difference between morning and night over there, so be sure to bring a thick coat!"

Sun Qimiao reminded her that she went there with her high school classmates and almost froze to death while watching the stars at night.

"Okay, thanks for the reminder."

However, the road to Cuandixia Village was not easy to travel. Jian Yunxi and Lu Yang first took the subway and then the bus. After arriving at Zhaitang Town, Lu Yang chartered a minibus before reaching Cuandixia Village.

There is a gravel road when entering the village, which is called "a line of sky". Jian Yunxi felt that his heart, liver and lungs were about to be shaken out.

The driver smiled and said, "I don't know what you young people are thinking. What is there to do in this remote place?"

"I heard that you can watch star trails at night here, so let's go and broaden our horizons."

Lu Yang put all his heart on Jian Yunxi and chatted with the driver from time to time.

Jian Yunxi looked listless and in low spirits.

When the driver said "we're here", Jian Yunxi felt that he had seen salvation.

After getting off the bus, what came into view was not the quaint gatehouse, but a crooked iron plate, with the red paint peeling off and only half of the "爨" character left.

Jian Yunxi stood there in a daze, but seeing that Lu Yang was also very surprised, she couldn't help but laugh out loud.

She had been planning to take out her cell phone to record Lu Yang's rare gaffe, but she discovered that her cell phone had no signal at all.

Well, let her and Lu Yang spend these wonderful two days in this isolated village.

Under the guidance of the villagers, Lu Yang brought Jian Yunxi to the Han family yard, where they would stay for the night.

The Han family courtyard is hidden at the end of a bluestone alley, with faded Spring Festival couplets pasted on the mottled wooden door.

Pushing open the creaking door, you are greeted by the aroma of food being cooked on the wood stove.

The old pear tree in the corner of the yard was blooming with snow-white flowers, and the petals fell on the millstone like a layer of icing sugar.

"Hey, there are guests coming!" An old lady poked her head out from the kitchen. Lu Yang went up to her and explained his purpose.

The old lady enthusiastically took them to a wing room and said, "You came early. This east wing is the largest and best room in our house. The bedding on the kang is all freshly dried!"

"By the way, it's 50 for accommodation only, and 80 for three meals."

Of course, Jian Yunxi and Lu Yang chose the latter. After all, there was no restaurant in this place, so eating here was the best option.

Before they had finished packing, the old lady was already in the yard shouting, "It's time to eat!"

"We arrived just in time!" Jian Yunxi and Lu Yang looked at each other and laughed. After more than four hours of journey, they were both hungry.

The old lady reserved a small square table for them, and the dishes were served separately: "I know you city people have a lot of rules. Don't worry, I have boiled the bowls and chopsticks in boiling water."

Jian Yunxi smiled shyly: "Auntie, we are both from the countryside, but we go to university in Beijing."

The lady smiled sincerely: "Hi, now all the people who come to our place are college students, and they are all of high quality, including you two. I am happy to see you as soon as I see you."

Jian Yunxi felt that the 30 yuan per day food allowance was a great bargain. In just one lunch, she not only had scrambled eggs with fern roots, but also had rabbit stewed with potatoes. She originally thought that the meat was so tender that it might be chicken, but the old lady said, "Of course it's rabbit meat that has this taste."

Jian Yunxi didn’t know whether she should eat it or not. She thought of the little rabbit her grandmother raised when she was a child.

Lu Yang saw her dilemma and asked in a low voice: "Yunxi, can you eat it?"

"Yes, I remember Sichuan also has spicy rabbit heads."

"Well, there are rabbit legs too!"

The topic went further and further, and Jian Yunxi even forgot his momentary hesitation.

After dinner, at the suggestion of the old lady, the two went out to look for the 300-year-old pear tree.

The warm April sunshine sprinkled on their shoulders. Lu Yang held Jian Yunxi's hand and said, "Auntie said to walk north along the stream and turn right when you see three bluestones stacked together."

Jian Yunxi was a person who didn't know directions. She didn't know which way to go. When she was a freshman, she made a fool of herself when she was collecting textbooks. Sun Qimiao called her and said, "The classroom on the easternmost side of the first floor of the Law School."

After she got there, she realized that there were people there who she didn't recognize. After asking others, she found out that she had mistakenly entered the site where sophomore students were receiving textbooks because she walked to the westernmost side.

So she felt at ease hanging out with Lu Yang, as Lu Yang had a particularly good sense of direction.

"Three bluestones!" After turning the corner of the mountain, Jian Yunxi suddenly pointed ahead and saw three huge moss-covered stones piled together.

"Such a big stone, I thought it was a small stone!"

Lu Yang looked at Jian Yunxi's sparkling eyes and couldn't help but lower his head and kiss her: "Follow me closely, there are thorny vines on this path, it's not easy to walk."

Jian Yunxi followed behind with a blushing face. Although she had kissed Lu Yang many times, she still couldn't control her shyness every time.

They both held their breath as the pear tree suddenly came into view.
