Black Monday.
Not only was Lightyear Coffee Shop having a meeting, but Tide Company was also having a meeting.
Two rows of people sat at the long table in the conference room, including Fang Yun, the administrative director.
Huo Yunchao was wearing a dark suit today, sporting heavy dark circles under his eyes. His beard was clean-shaven, but faint bluish tinges were still visible. He had smoked too much yesterday, and his throat was sore; he pinched the bridge of his nose.
The Tsinghua University classmates who had started the business together looked at each other, puzzled. They had held weekly meetings before, but never on this scale. They wondered what their boss meant today. They looked at Qin Shu with questioning eyes.
Qin Shu was Huo Yunchao's right-hand man, but he didn't know what had happened.
Once everyone had arrived, Huo Yunchao surveyed the crowd, cleared his throat, and said in a hoarse voice, "Today, we are holding this meeting mainly for two reasons."
Everyone held their breath, listening intently to what followed.
"Fang Yun, when does our office lease expire?" Huo Yunchao asked.
The opening was a bit unexpected.
"Mr. Huo, there are still three months left. We rent on an annual basis." As the head of administration, Fang Yun has always been conscientious in her duties.
“Yes,” Huo Yunchao nodded, “I know that many of you here have bought houses in Haidian District, and you are all used to the west side. So the company’s first decision is that we will move back to Zhongguancun Science Park in three months.”
As soon as he finished speaking, whispers arose below: "Great! We're finally going back to base camp!"
Tech companies should be located in Haidian.
They weren't quite used to the fashionable and trendy atmosphere of the CBD.
"The second decision, TC Group..." Huo Yunchao paused for a moment, "will acquire Letu.com and Happy Farm at a high price."
The entire conference room seemed to freeze, completely silent.
Someone accidentally knocked over a glass of water, wetting the table and carpet. "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry."
Nobody cared about the apologies; they only cared that the company's core business had been acquired, and whether they themselves would be reassigned. Although TC was a unicorn company, Tide was the result of everyone's hard work; we all started the business together and watched it grow step by step.
"Mr. Huo, why?"
Finally, someone asked the question.
Huo Yunchao didn't answer directly. He smiled slightly and said, "Why are you all looking so sad? So many startups are eager to be acquired by TC. When we started our businesses, didn't we all dream of being worth millions? Now our dreams have come true."
But no one could laugh. Happy Farm was like their child, and now they wanted to trade their own child for wealth and glory? Yes, that's what everyone thought.
"After that, did we merge into TC and become its subsidiary?" someone else asked.
"Specific details are still under discussion, but I can promise that I will respect everyone's decision. You can either merge with Happy Farm into TC, or you can stay with Chaoxun and start a business with me."
This is the result of Huo Yunchao's negotiations yesterday.
"Can we not sell Happy Farm?" This was the question Qin Shu asked. Compared to others, he, as the CTO, had a deeper affection for this game.
Just as Huo Yunchao was about to answer, his phone vibrated, and his heart suddenly tightened.
Dai Dai called, and she finally answered him back.
At that moment, joy welled up in his eyes. "I'm sorry," he apologized to everyone, then pulled out a chair, stood up, and quickly left the conference room.
"Dai Dai?" Huo Yunchao returned to his office, stood under the large glass curtain wall, and looked in the direction of the coffee shop.
On the other end of the phone, Xue Qiandai hummed in agreement. "What's wrong with your voice?"
Huo Yunchao wanted to say it was nothing serious, but he swallowed the words. If he pretended to be weak, would Dai Dai be more worried? So he started coughing, as if his lungs were about to come out. "Dai Dai, I... I caught a cold last night."
"Okay, okay, stop talking. Should we go to the hospital? I..." Xue Qiandai was on the verge of tears. She would rather suffer herself than see her beloved man suffer. His voice was so beautiful, how could it be so hoarse? She longed to see him, but she still had to deliver takeout.
Having already shown weakness, Huo Yunchao stopped playing the victim. "Dai Dai, I'm fine. Just drink some more hot water and I'll be alright."
Xue Qiandai hated the "drink hot water" excuse the most; she was too weak and powerless, and it was better to show concern with some practical actions. She had an idea. "Beautiful Huo, I just wanted to let you know that I was writing the proposal too late yesterday and didn't see your call. Don't worry about me."
Huo Yunchao's heart, which had been hanging in suspense, was finally at ease. As long as she was safe and sound, the world was a bright place. "Dai Dai, can we have lunch together?"
We've been eating together a lot more often lately, and Xue Qiandai wanted to refuse, but she couldn't bring herself to say it—the beauty's request was so earnest. "Okay, but only simple meals."
As long as you're with the person you love, what does it matter whether it's a simple meal or a grand feast? Huo Yunchao clenched his fist, almost shouting "OHYEAH!" Having arranged a time and place for dinner with Dai Dai, Huo Yunchao reluctantly hung up the phone.
At the Lightyear Coffee Shop, Xue Qiandai picked up her Blue Mountain coffee, got fully geared up, and set off on her electric scooter. After delivering all the coffees, she stopped by a large pharmacy on the way.
"Boss, a box of Jin Sang Zi throat lozenges, please."
