Chapter 39 The Little Beggar

The shop returned to its former bustling state.

Recently, Liu Sifu and his wife moved directly to the house behind the shop and no longer go back at night. They stay at the shop and can open early in the morning to sell some things. Liu Sisi also told her sister-in-law the recipe for making rice noodles.

Today was the day when the older brothers were resting, so Liu Dashi drove the carriage and took Liu Sisi to pick them up.

When Liu Siqiang and his companions left the academy, they were all stunned to see their own magnificent carriage.

"Wow! Daddy, sister, is this our family's carriage?" Liu Sile asked excitedly.

"I guess so! Come on, let's get in the car and go back to the shop first," Liu Sisi replied. Although it belonged to Gu Lingchen, hadn't Gu Lingchen given it to her?

Liu Siping and Liu Si'an were also very curious. As if they had discovered a new continent, they fiddled with this and looked at that in the carriage, and never stopped for a while.

At this moment, Zhou Dahai also arrived in his oxcart to pick up Zhou Wensheng.

"Brother Dahai, you've come to pick up Wensheng." Liu Dashi stepped forward to greet him.

Yes! Brother Da Shi, your family is using a horse-drawn carriage now. It looks really impressive.

Zhou Dahai's eyes were full of envy.

Brother Dahai, bring Wensheng and come back with me for a bowl of rice noodles! Liu Dashi has not forgotten the help Zhou Lizheng's family gave him during his difficult times.

"No, Brother Da Shi, we're going back," Zhou Dahai refused. Although he was envious, he didn't want to take advantage of the situation.

"Let's go," Liu Dashi said, pulling Zhou Wensheng into his carriage.

"Brother Dahai, you've caught up."

On the carriage, Zhou Wensheng and Liu Siqiang occasionally exchanged information about what they had learned at the academy.

Liu Siping and Liu Si'an were engrossed in their own activities and couldn't get a word in edgewise.

Liu Sile was happily eating the candied hawthorn that Liu Sisi had bought for her.

Seeing this, Liu Sisi thought to herself, "Only my second brother has the talent for studying. Looking at my third, fourth, and sixth brothers, they don't seem to be cut out for it!"

When they arrived at the shop, Liu Dashi made a bowl of rice noodles for Zhou Wensheng and Zhou Dahai each.

Zhou Dahai learned from the conversation of the customers in the shop that the rice noodles cost twenty coins a bowl, and he was reluctant to eat them. They only earned a few dozen coins a day doing odd jobs!

"Brother Da Shi, you can't do this! You should sell it! How can I eat this?"

Madam Wu also urged, "Brother Dahai, it's alright to eat a bowl. Eat it while it's hot. Wensheng, hurry up and eat it. Try this rice noodle and see if it's delicious. This recipe was devised by your sister Sisi!"

Since they had given him such advice, Zhou Dahai didn't hold back.

After finishing his meal, Liu Dashi gave him a jar of pickled vegetables to take back for Zhou Lizheng and the others to try.

When Liu Siqiang and his brothers returned home, all of them except for their younger brother Liu Sile went to help out at the shop, taking orders, serving bowls, and packing kimchi.

Because there were so many people around, Liu Sisi was sent away by her older brothers to play with her younger brother so she could get some rest.

Liu Sisi was happy to have some free time. "Dad, Mom, I'm taking my little brother out for a walk." She had never properly explored Wutong Town since arriving here!

"Okay, don't go too far," Wu replied while mixing kimchi for someone.

"Okay." Liu Sisi held Liu Sile's little hand and strolled aimlessly down the street. He would buy whatever pastries and toys his little brother wanted.

The little guy's face was full of happy smiles. He no longer had to worry about food and drink. Now he could go to school, wear new clothes, and have toys.

"These were all given to us by my sister. If my sister hadn't been favored by the snake spirit, how could our family have such a good life?"

Thinking of all this, Liu Sile pulled Liu Sisi aside and said seriously.

"Sister, I will definitely be good to you. I will always protect you, and no one will be allowed to bully you."

Looking at her younger brother's suddenly serious expression, Liu Sisi felt a warmth in her heart.

"Mmm, my little brother is so good," Liu Sisi said, gently rubbing Liu Sile's cheek.

My younger brother is the cute type, with a round little face, grape-like eyes, and pink lips, making him instantly lovable.

The siblings held hands and continued walking forward to see if there was anything fun to do.

Suddenly, a little beggar dressed in tattered clothes ran over and accidentally tripped Liu Sile.

He didn't fall down; Liu Sisi caught him, but the little beggar tripped and fell on his bottom.

"Ouch, my butt!" the little beggar exclaimed.

Seeing that the person he bumped into hadn't fallen, he said, "I'm sorry I didn't see it, please don't blame me."

After saying that, he turned around and continued running forward without looking back.

Liu Sisi looked back and realized why he was running so fast; a large group of little beggars were chasing him.

Liu Sisi ignored them and took her younger brother's hand to go back to the shop.

But before long, the little beggar was caught up by the people behind him, and the group of little beggars continued to beat him.

"You dared to ask for something in our territory? Do you still want it? Brothers, beat him to death and see if you dare show your face on our turf again."

The group of little beggars were seen cursing and kicking the little beggar who was lying on the ground covering his head.

"Sister, he's so pitiful," Liu Sile said, feeling a pang of sympathy.

It sounds like it's about beggars fighting over territory. Oh well, since we've run into this, let's do something about it.

"Stop!" Liu Sisi shouted.

The little beggars were not afraid when they saw that there were two children.

“I advise you not to meddle in other people’s business, or I’ll beat you two little brats together,” said the leader of the beggars, and then the group continued to beat the little beggar.

"Sister." Liu Sile nervously grasped Liu Sisi's hand.

"It's okay, don't be afraid, close your eyes," Liu Sisi comforted her younger brother.

"Okay," Liu Sile obediently closed her eyes and covered them with her hands.

Liu Sisi strode forward and said to the group of little beggars, "I told you, you're not allowed to hit him anymore."

"You..." Before the little beggar in the lead could finish speaking, Liu Sisi slapped him back several steps.

For the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, more than a dozen little beggars clutched their stomachs and cried out in pain, but no one dared to approach them.

Liu Sisi walked up to the little beggar who had just been beaten and extended her hand. "Get up! It's alright now. What's your name?"

“Ruan Xicheng,” the little beggar replied.

Ruan Xicheng grasped the girl's hand. At that moment, he felt as if she were a radiant fairy who had saved him.

"It's alright now, they won't dare to bully you again." Liu Sisi's cold eyes swept over the group of little beggars who had been knocked to the ground.

"Big, big, big sister, we dare not do it again, we will never dare to do it again!" The little beggar in the lead was so scared that he stammered.
