Chapter 332 Fu Linghe wakes up
Yun Zheng sat in the back seat of the car, her slender fingers unconsciously stroking the edge of the seat belt.
The scenery outside the car window quickly receded, and the trees on the roadside became a blur of green in my sight.
But she turned a blind eye, her mind full of Fu Linghe's face.
The driver glanced at her through the rearview mirror, noticed her trembling eyelashes, and quietly increased the speed of the car.
"Ms. Yun, we're almost at the airport." The driver reminded softly, his voice deliberately gentle and respectful.
Yun Zheng suddenly came back to her senses and took a deep breath as if she had emerged from deep water.
She opened her phone and checked the time. It was three fifty-eight, and the numbers on the screen danced in her blurry vision.
My mother-in-law's flight should have just landed, if it was on time.
Yun Zheng subconsciously raised her hand to tidy up her messy hair, only to find that her fingers were abnormally cold.
She wiped her face with a wet wipe, trying to make herself look less haggard, but it didn't seem to help.
There was a constant stream of people in front of the airport terminal. Even though Shen Lanshu took the VIP channel, the airport pick-up area was still crowded.
Yun Zheng stood outside the cordon, unconsciously standing on tiptoe, searching for the familiar figure in the flowing crowd.
Her heart was beating so hard that it seemed like it was going to burst through her chest, and the beads of sweat on her palms made the phone so slippery that she could hardly hold it.
This was the first time in a week that she had been away from Fu Linghe for more than an hour.
Even though she knew that Jiang Chenyu and the other three grown men were guarding the ward, she still felt empty inside, as if someone had dug out a piece of her chest and was blowing cold wind into it.
"Zheng Zheng!"
A familiar call pierced through the noisy voices. Yun Zheng looked up suddenly, and felt a sharp pain in the back of her neck due to the sudden movement.
Shen Lanshu was wearing a navy blue cheongsam with a pearl brooch pinned to her collar, and was walking quickly towards them, dragging a small suitcase.
My mother-in-law looked much more haggard than the last time we met. The wrinkles at the corners of her eyes seemed deeper, as if they were carved by a knife, but her eyes were still bright and gentle.
"Mom..." Yun Zheng's throat suddenly choked, as if being strangled by an invisible hand.
She hurried forward, but suddenly stopped two steps away from her mother-in-law. Her lips trembled, and all the greetings she had prepared were stuck in her throat and turned into a broken sob.
Shen Lanshu opened her arms without hesitation and pulled Yun Zheng into her arms.
When her palm touched Yun Zheng's thin back, she gasped in pain, "Zheng Zheng, didn't you promise mom on the phone that you would eat well?"
Her voice trembled, "How did you become so thin?"
Yun Zheng buried her face deeply in her mother-in-law's shoulder, and the familiar scent of lavender surrounded her.
The strength she had maintained for days collapsed at this moment. She was like a lost child who finally found her family. She clutched Shen Lanshu's clothes tightly, and her silent tears quickly soaked the silk fabric.
"Silly child, why don't you take care of yourself?"
Shen Lanshu patted her back gently, her voice choked with sobs, and her fingers ran through Yun Zheng's soft hair. "Just send me the address of the hospital, and I can take a taxi there myself. Why did you come there in person?"
Yun Zheng shook her head, rubbed her forehead against her mother-in-law's shoulder, and tried hard to stop her tears.
When she raised her head, she tried to force a smile, but her red and swollen eyes and trembling mouth made the smile uglier than crying.
"Jiang Chenyu and the others are watching over you in the ward, so I can come and pick you up without any worries."
Shen Lanshu held Yun Zheng's face in her hands and gently wiped away the tear marks on her face with her thumbs.
Looking closely, the daughter-in-law's condition is even more shocking.
She was like a string stretched to its limit, ready to break at any moment.
"Ling He...how is he?" Shen Lanshu asked cautiously, weighing the weight of each word, for fear of causing Yun Zheng more pain.
Yun Zheng's eyes flickered, and she bit her lower lip unconsciously. "It's still the same."
Her voice was as light as a feather. "But Mo Shi'an helped contact a team of experts in City C, and they will come for a consultation tomorrow."
At this point, she reflexively glanced at the time on her phone, "Mom, should we go back to the hospital? I'm afraid..."
"Okay, okay, we'll go back now." Shen Lanshu immediately understood. She dragged the suitcase steadily with one hand and tightly grasped Yun Zheng's cold fingers with the other, wanting to pass on her own warmth to her. "Ling He has had nine lives since he was a child. He will definitely make it this time."
Sitting in the car, Yun Zheng's toes unconsciously tapped the ground lightly, hitting the car mat rhythmically like a second hand.
She kept her eyes on the road ahead, and whenever a car overtook her, her fingers would tighten on her knees, her knuckles turning white.
Shen Lanshu saw this and quietly leaned forward and said to the driver, "Please drive faster."
"Mom, how long can you stay this time?" Yun Zheng suddenly asked, her eyes still looking at the scenery passing by outside the window, and her voice was so vague that it seemed to come from far away.
Shen Lanshu raised her hand to tidy up the sweaty hair on Yun Zheng's forehead, tucked a strand of disobedient hair behind her ear, and spoke in a gentle tone as if coaxing a child.
"I've arranged everything in the capital, and your father is looking after your grandparents."
She paused, rubbing her thumb over Yun Zheng's wrist. "I can wait for Ling He to wake up and then we can go back together. There's no rush."
She stared at Yun Zheng's haggard face and added, "And I have to watch you too. If you continue like this, by the time Ling He wakes up, you'll be the one to collapse."
Yun Zheng forced a fleeting smile and did not answer.
Her fingers drummed restlessly on her knees, the rhythm getting faster and faster, like a silent march.
"Zheng Zheng, you need to eat something."
Shen Lanshu took out an exquisite insulated box from her bag. When she opened the lid, steam rose in the air. "I brought you your favorite lotus flower cakes. They're still hot."
Yun Zheng took the box and the familiar sweet fragrance hit her face, reminding her that Fu Linghe would bring her a box of lotus cakes every time he came home from get off work.
Her eyes were red again and tears were welling up in them.
"Thanks, Mom." She whispered, mechanically picking up a piece and taking a small bite.
The sweet taste bloomed on the tip of her tongue, but her throat tightened and it was difficult to swallow.
Shen Lanshu did not force her, but gently held her trembling hand and wrapped her palm around the cold fingers. "Eat slowly, don't choke."
At this moment, Yun Zheng's cell phone suddenly vibrated in her bag.
She rummaged around in a panic, pushing the things in the bag aside.
When she saw the three words "Jiang Chenyu" on the phone screen, her heart almost stopped beating, and her fingers trembled above the answer button, not daring to press it.
"Hello?" Her voice was trembling.
"Sister-in-law!" Jiang Chenyu's voice was filled with unconcealed excitement. In the background, the sounds of medical equipment and noisy voices could be faintly heard. "The boss is awake!"
Yun Zheng's phone almost slipped from her sweaty palms.
She gripped the phone tightly, her knuckles turning white, and her other hand unconsciously grabbed Shen Lanshu's arm, her nails almost digging into her skin.
"Is it...really?" Her voice was so shrill that it didn't sound like her own.
"Absolutely true!" Jiang Chenyu's voice seemed to be moving, sometimes far away and sometimes near. There was a commotion in the background. "But..."
His tone suddenly became a little strange, as if he didn't know how to describe it. "Oh, you should come back and take a look yourself."
The phone suddenly hung up, leaving behind a suffocating silence.
Yun Zheng sat in her seat, tears streaming down her face, staining her light-colored skirt with dark spots. However, the corners of her mouth lifted uncontrollably, revealing her first genuine smile in days. "Mom, Ling He's awake! He's awake!"
She turned to the driver and practically shouted, her voice filled with unprecedented urgency and hope, "Master, please drive faster! Please!"
