Chapter 331 We will make up for what we owe her this time!
The ward door was gently pushed open, and a slender figure stood at the door. "Zheng Zheng."
Mo Shian's deep and familiar voice made Yun Zheng stop what she was doing and look up towards the door.
He was wearing a simple black turtleneck sweater, which made his skin look cold and pale, and there was a hint of fatigue between his eyebrows.
He stood at the door, his eyes first falling on Fu Linghe lying on the hospital bed, and then slowly moved to Yun Zheng's face.
"Mr. Mo." Yun Zheng put down what she was holding and stood up. "You're so busy, there's no need for you to come here every day."
Mo Shian walked into the ward and closed the door behind him. "I brought you some fruit and snacks."
He put the things in his hand on the table beside him and found a place to sit down.
Although Yun Zheng still called him "Mr. Mo", she never called him "brother".
But Mo Shian could feel that she no longer rejected him, and that was already very satisfying.
Mo Shian sat in the armchair in the ward, tapping his knees lightly with his fingertips, his eyes occasionally sweeping over Fu Linghe on the bed.
The sunlight filtering through the blinds cast mottled shadows on the floor, adding a touch of warmth to the space filled with the smell of disinfectant.
"Aren't you busy lately?" Yun Zheng was peeling an apple, and the blade drew a continuous spiral on the skin.
"It's okay, but those old foxes on the board of directors always try to make trouble when I'm not around."
Mo Shi'an tugged at his tie, his gaze fixed on Yun Zheng's slender wrist, where the once rounded lines had become distinctly bony. "You've lost weight again."
Yun Zheng's hand paused for a moment, then she continued peeling as if nothing had happened. "It's better to be thinner, so I don't have to lose weight again."
The apple peel broke and fell into the trash can.
She cut the apple into small pieces, inserted a toothpick into it, and pushed it in front of Mo Shian.
"I don't want to eat it. I brought this for you." Mo Shi'an shook his head and took out a thermos box from his briefcase. "Auntie Wu said you haven't had a good appetite lately. This is the hawthorn cake made by our chef. It's appetizing."
Yun Zheng looked at the exquisite ceramic food box, her eyes slightly warmed.
During this period, Mo Shian came almost every day, bringing different food and supplements each time.
It’s not that she didn’t understand his intentions, but... Fu Linghe hadn’t woken up yet, and she really didn’t have the time to care about these things.
"Thank you." She said softly, took the lunch box and placed it on the bedside table, next to Fu Linghe's medicine and her half glass of water.
Mo Shian glanced at his watch and saw that the hour hand was already pointing to ten o'clock.
"I have to go. I have a multinational meeting at 10:30." He stood up and straightened the tail of his suit. "Call me if you need anything, okay?"
Yun Zheng nodded and stood up to see him off.
When he reached the door, Mo Shi'an suddenly turned around. "By the way, last time you said Fu Linghe's attending physician suggested trying a new treatment plan? I contacted a team of experts in City C, and they can come for a consultation next week."
"Really?" Yun Zheng's eyes lit up, like two small flames ignited. "Thank you so much, Mr. Mo."
"Stop calling me Mr. Mo. You can just call me by my name."
He smiled and reached out to stroke her hair, but stopped mid-air. In the end, he just patted her shoulder lightly and said, "Don't tire yourself out."
In the corridor, the smell of disinfectant mixed with some kind of floral fragrance.
Mo Shian deliberately slowed down his pace and stopped at the door of the ward.
"One more thing." He pulled out a gold-stamped business card from his inner pocket. "This card has my assistant's contact information. If you can't find me, you can call him directly."
"Even though the chance of you not finding me is zero, it's still best to keep it in case you need it."
Yun Zheng took the business card and brushed her fingertips over the gold-plated lettering. "Yes, thank you."
Their conversation could be heard clearly around the corner of the corridor.
Ning Zhi gripped her husband's arm tightly, her nails almost digging into the fabric of his suit.
Her breathing was rapid, and her eyes were fixed on the slender figure in the beige knitted skirt without blinking.
"Our daughter looks even more like you than in the photo." Mo Chenfeng whispered, his voice trembling with suppressed emotion, "Especially her eyes."
Ning Zhi was speechless.
More than twenty years of longing became material at this moment, hitting her chest like a tide.
Her daughter was standing there, less than twenty meters away from her, the treasure she thought she had lost forever.
Yun Zheng faced them sideways, the sunlight outlining her delicate jawline. Ning Zhi could see the shadows cast by her eyelashes and the slightly red tip of her nose.
"She looks so tired." Ning Zhi choked out, tears blurring her vision. "She's so thin she's practically skin and bones."
Mo Chenfeng hugged his wife's shoulders tightly and felt her body trembling.
He himself was not in much better condition. His throat seemed to be blocked by something, so he could only hold Ning Zhi's hand even tighter.
In the corridor, Mo Shian seemed to be deliberately delaying time and talked to Yun Zheng about the newly blooming roses in the hospital garden.
Yun Zheng smiled slightly and nodded from time to time, but her eyes couldn't help but drift back to the door of the ward, obviously she was concerned about Fu Linghe inside.
"She's so beautiful and talented." Ning Zhi wiped away her tears. "Look at how worried she is about that kid from the Fu family. It's really heartbreaking."
Mo Chenfeng nodded and noticed that Yun Zheng's little movements when she subconsciously fixed her hair were exactly the same as Ning Zhi's.
This discovery made his heart skip a beat. They were indeed mother and daughter!
"Even the way she frowns when she's impatient is exactly like yours when you were young." He said softly, his voice full of disbelief.
Ning Zhi suddenly grabbed her husband's arm, "She's looking this way!"
Yun Zheng seemed to have noticed something and glanced around the corner of the corridor.
Mo Chenfeng quickly pulled his wife back a step and hid in the shadows.
Ning Zhi's heart was beating so fast that it almost jumped out of her chest. She was afraid of being discovered, but also secretly hoped that her daughter would recognize her.
But Yun Zheng just blinked in confusion and quickly turned back to listen to Mo Shian.
"We should go." Mo Chenfeng whispered, "Shi An can't delay for much longer."
Ning Zhi, however, seemed to be rooted and unable to move, greedily looking at every detail of Yun Zheng.
She had a habit of tilting her head slightly when she spoke, and her back was tired but still straight.
These are the more than 20 years she missed.
"Just watch for a little longer, just a little longer..." she begged, her voice broken.
Mo Chenfeng didn't force her. He knew what this moment meant to Ning Zhi.
He himself couldn't take his eyes off her. There was a shadow of him between Yun Zheng's eyebrows, especially the look when she pursed her lips in thought, which was simply a replica of him when he was young.
In the corridor, Mo Shi'an finally finished the conversation. He gave Yun Zheng a few final instructions and turned to leave.
Yun Zheng stood at the door of the ward and watched him go until the elevator door closed before returning to the ward.
When Yun Zheng's figure disappeared behind the door, Ning Zhi finally collapsed.
She threw herself into Mo Chenfeng's arms, sobbing silently, her tears soaking his lapel.
Mo Chenfeng hugged her tightly, his own tears silently falling.
"She's right there...our daughter..." Ning Zhi said intermittently, "She's been through so much, and we know nothing..."
Mo Chenfeng kissed the top of his wife's head. "Now we can make amends. Take it slow."
Ning Zhi suddenly looked up, a determined light flashing in her red and swollen eyes, "I want to go find her, now! I can't..."
"Ning Zhi." Mo Chenfeng held her shoulders, his voice gentle but firm. "We made an agreement, remember? Meeting her now will only burden her. Fu Linghe is still unconscious, and she's already suffering enough."
Reason gradually returned to Ning Zhi's eyes, but the pain also deepened.
She knew Mo Chenfeng was right, but that didn't ease the pain in her heart.
"At least...at least let me cook her a meal." Ning Zhi pleaded, "Look how thin she is. I can pretend to be a new nurse. At least she won't recognize me."
Mo Chenfeng thought for a moment and nodded, "We can let Shi An arrange it. But not today, you are too emotional today."
They took one last look in the direction of Yun Zheng's ward and then left quietly.
The moment the elevator door closed, Ning Zhi burst into tears again.
But this time her tears were no longer filled with only pain, but also a glimmer of hope.
"We will help her," she whispered, more like a promise to herself, "We will make up for what we owe her over the past twenty years, little by little."
Mo Chenfeng held Ning Zhi's hand tightly, and the two walked out of the hospital gate.
At three o'clock in the afternoon, there was another gentle knock on the ward door.
Yun Zheng had just finished giving Fu Linghe a massage and was tidying up the corners of the quilt.
She looked up and answered, "Come in."
The door was opened from the outside, and Jiang Chenyu's tall figure walked in first, followed by Lu Shiqian and Bo Jinnian.
"Sister-in-law." The three of them called out in unison, their voices deliberately lowered, as if they were afraid of disturbing something.
Yun Zheng forced a smile, "You're here."
Jiang Chenyu was holding an exquisite gift box with a gold-plated logo gleaming in the sun. "Sister-in-law, I brought you a small cake. I specifically asked An An if it was your favorite flavor."
Yun Zheng took the gift box and nodded slightly, "Thank you."
Jiang Chenyu's gaze lingered on Yun Zheng's haggard face for a moment, his brows slightly furrowed. "Sister-in-law, I heard that Aunt Shen is coming. Shouldn't you go pick her up?"
Jiang Chenyu could have gone to the airport to pick someone up himself. The reason he told Yun Zheng was that he wanted her to go out and get some fresh air, so that she wouldn't have to stay in the hospital all day.
Yun Zheng glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already 3:20.
Shen Lanshu's plane landed at four o'clock, and it would take at least forty minutes to get from the hospital to the airport.
"I..." She looked hesitantly at Fu Linghe lying on the hospital bed, her fingers unconsciously twisting the corners of her clothes.
"Use my car." Jiang Chenyu took out the car keys from his pocket. "The driver is waiting downstairs. Let him take you there."
Lu Shiqian stepped forward and said, "We are here to protect the boss, don't worry, sister-in-law."
Bo Jinnian rarely spoke, his voice low, "Yes, we are watching this. You should go quickly. Aunt Chen came from the capital alone and is unfamiliar with the place."
Yun Zheng bit her lower lip and finally nodded.
She leaned over and whispered in Fu Linghe's ear, "I'm going to pick up Mom. I'll be back soon."
Picking up her coat and bag, Yun Zheng gave the nurse a few more instructions before hurriedly leaving the ward.
In the hospital corridor, her steps became faster and faster, and finally she was almost jogging.
In the past two weeks, she had hardly left Fu Linghe for more than an hour.
Now suddenly having to leave him, even if it was just for a short while, made her feel empty inside.
Jiang Chenyu's black Maybach was parked in front of the hospital entrance.
When the driver saw her come out, he immediately got out and opened the back door. "Ms. Yun, Mr. Jiang has instructed us to take you directly to the airport."
Yun Zheng thanked him and got in the car, taking one last look at the hospital building through the window.
The sunlight danced on the glass curtain wall, stinging her eyes.
