Chapter 384 Although your taste in choosing men is a little poor
The car slowly drove into the gate of the Fu family's old house. Yun Zheng saw through the car window that the old lady and Shen Lanshu were already standing under the porch waiting.
The afterglow of the setting sun casts a warm golden hue on the ancient mansion, and the plum blossoms in the courtyard are in full bloom, emitting a subtle fragrance.
"Why are you all out?" Yun Zheng looked at the man curiously.
Fu Linghe looked out the window and raised an eyebrow, "They are all here to pick you up."
As soon as Yun Zheng got off the car, Shen Lanshu came up to her with a thick shawl in her hand.
"It's cold, put it on quickly." Shen Lanshu wrapped the shawl around Yun Zheng's shoulders without saying anything, and touched her hand again, "Why are you so cold?"
Fu Linghe stood aside, frowning slightly, "She's been standing outside for too long."
The old lady came over with a cane, her sharp eyes sweeping across her grandson's face. "Didn't you go pick up Zheng Zheng a long time ago? Why didn't you come back earlier? You didn't even bother to put gloves on her."
Yun Zheng quickly explained, "Grandma, I just wanted to hang out a little longer. I don't blame him."
The old lady snorted, but couldn't hide the kindness in her eyes. "Alright, don't stand outside anymore. There's chicken soup in the kitchen. Come in and drink some to warm yourself up and don't catch a cold."
Fu Linghe naturally put his arm around Yun Zheng's waist and carefully helped her up the stairs.
Yun Zheng couldn't help but chuckle, "I'm not that delicate."
"The doctor said that we need to be extra careful in the first three months." Fu Linghe said in a serious tone.
In the restaurant, a sumptuous dinner was already laid out on the long table.
Yun Zheng noticed that there were a few wolfberries and red dates floating in the soup bowl in front of her seat, which was obviously specially prepared.
"Zheng Zheng," the old lady said after she sat down, "I've asked the kitchen to prepare the medicinal recipe that Doctor Li prescribed today. From now on, you should drink one dose at noon and one at night. I've tried it and it's quite delicious."
Yun Zheng nodded obediently, "Thank you, grandma."
"Mom." Fu Linghe suddenly asked, "Are there any other precautions during pregnancy?"
Shen Lanshu smiled and glanced at her son. "Not bad, you have a conscience and know how to love your wife."
She pulled a slip of paper from her pocket. "I've written everything down here, including dietary restrictions and suitable exercises."
Fu Linghe took the note, read it carefully from beginning to end, then folded it and put it in his suit pocket. "Okay, I've written it down."
Dinner was held in a warm atmosphere.
The old lady told some interesting stories about Fu Linghe's childhood, which made Yun Zheng laugh softly with her hands covering her mouth.
Although Fu Linghe looked helpless on the surface, Yun Zheng noticed that the corners of his mouth were slightly raised.
After dinner, Fu Linghe accompanied Yun Zheng back to their bedroom.
The room has been made warm and comfortable by the servants. There is a soft night light on the bedside table and the curtains are drawn tightly, creating an atmosphere suitable for rest.
"You take a rest first. I'll go to the study to deal with some documents." Fu Linghe helped Yun Zheng lift the quilt, his movements incredibly gentle.
Yun Zheng grabbed his wrist and said, "Don't work today. Stay with me for a while, okay?"
Fu Linghe didn't hesitate, "Okay."
He took off his suit jacket, loosened his tie, and sat down next to Yun Zheng.
Yun Zheng leaned on his shoulder, smelling the familiar wood on his body, and felt a sense of security.
"Today... meeting Zhou Yushen," Yun Zheng said softly, "how do you feel?"
Fu Linghe's body stiffened for a moment, but soon relaxed. "I don't like him appearing in front of you."
"It really was just a chance encounter." Yun Zheng looked up at him. "Do you believe me?"
Fu Linghe stared at her with deep eyes, sighed after a moment, and reached out to touch her cheek, "I believe you. It's just..."
He paused. "I don't believe him."
Yun Zheng thought of Zhou Yushen's restrained and polite behavior today, which was completely different from the crazy man half a year ago.
She wanted to say a few words to defend her ex-boyfriend, but felt it was inappropriate, so she just said "hmm" softly in the end.
Fu Linghe keenly sensed her hesitation, his eyes darkened, "He still loves you."
Yun Zheng looked at him in surprise.
"Men understand men best." Fu Linghe's voice was low. "I can see that the way he looks at you...hasn't changed."
Yun Zheng didn't know how to respond.
She did feel the emotion in Zhou Yushen's eyes, but that had nothing to do with her anymore.
The saying that belated affection is cheaper than grass is true.
"Fu Linghe," she held his face and made him look directly into her eyes, "I love you. No matter what Zhou Yushen thinks, it won't change that."
A hint of vulnerability flashed in Fu Linghe's eyes, a side he would never show in the business world.
He lowered his head and kissed Yun Zheng's lips, his movements gentle but full of possessiveness, as if he wanted to confirm her existence and choice through this kiss.
After the kiss, Yun Zheng breathed slightly and her cheeks flushed.
Fu Linghe rubbed the corner of her wet lips with his thumb and said in a hoarse voice, "I know that although your taste in choosing men is a little poor, but since you already have me, it's natural that you don't look down on other men."
Yun Zheng shook her head helplessly. Mr. Fu was a bit narcissistic and arrogant, but he had the capital to be arrogant.
Outside the window, the night deepens.
A bright moon hung in the sky, and the cold moonlight poured in through the gaps in the curtains, casting a silver line on the floor.
——
At the same time, on the other side of the city, Zhou Yushen stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window of his apartment, holding a glass of whiskey in his hand.
The ice ball had mostly melted, diluting the amber liquid.
The decoration of his apartment is simple and modern, which is in sharp contrast with the simple and elegant old house of the Fu family.
There was no decoration on the wall, only a few photo frames on the bookshelf, all of which were landscape photos, with no people in them.
Zhou Yushen walked to the desk and opened the bottom drawer.
Inside lay a manila envelope.
He hesitated for a moment, then took it out.
Inside the envelope was a thick stack of photos. Yun Zheng was standing under a cherry tree and smiling when she was in college; she was waving at him in her bachelor's gown at the graduation ceremony; and there was a photo of them on vacation at the beach, with her leaning on his shoulder and smiling brightly.
Zhou Yushen's fingers gently stroked Yun Zheng's face in the photo, his eyes complicated.
After the breakup half a year ago, he was desperate to get her back and even took the extreme step of kidnapping her.
Thinking about it now, I was simply unreasonable back then.
He put the photo back into the envelope, but instead of putting it back in the drawer, he took it to the shredder.
The sound of the machine starting up was particularly harsh in the silent room.
"Goodbye, Yun Zheng." He said softly, then put the envelope into the shredder.
The photo turned into a long strip of paper, just like the broken relationship between them, which can never be restored.
Zhou Yushen returned to the window and looked towards the Fu family's old house in the distance.
He knew that there was a man there being embraced by the woman he loved, and that man could give her the happiness that he could never give her.
"I wish you happiness!" He raised his glass to the night sky and drank it all in one gulp.
The next morning, Yun Zheng woke up and found that Fu Linghe was no longer in bed.
She reached out and touched the sheet on his side; it was cold, indicating he had been up for a long time.
After washing up, Yun Zheng went downstairs and found that the whole family was already having breakfast in the restaurant.
Fu Linghe was dressed in a suit and tie, looking at the stock market information on his tablet computer, with steam rising from the black coffee in front of him.
"Zheng Zheng is here," Shen Lanshu greeted with a smile, "Hurry up and sit down. I'll ask the kitchen to heat up some milk for you."
The old lady put down the newspaper in her hand and asked, "Did you sleep well last night?"
Yun Zheng nodded. "Very good. Thank you for your concern, Grandma."
Fu Linghe then looked up from the screen and smiled at Yun Zheng: "Good morning."
He pushed a small plate over and said, "Freshly baked custard buns, eat them while they're hot."
Yun Zheng took the custard bun that Fu Linghe pushed to her, took a small bite, and the sweet custard filling immediately melted in her mouth.
She narrowed her eyes contentedly, like a lazy cat.
"Is it delicious?" Fu Linghe asked, moving his eyes away from the tablet and looking at her intently.
"Mm, very delicious." Yun Zheng nodded and took another bite. "Why did you get up so early today?"
Fu Linghe took a sip of his coffee and said, "There's a morning meeting at the company. I'll have to go there soon."
Yun Zheng noticed the faint blue color under his eyes and knew that he must not have slept well last night.
She reached out and covered the back of his hand. "Don't be too tired."
Fu Linghe held her fingers in his backhand and squeezed them gently, "Don't worry."
The old lady put down her teacup and cleared her throat. "Ling He, Zheng Zheng needs someone to accompany her now. You shouldn't stay at the company all day."
"Grandma," Fu Linghe smiled helplessly, "I'll arrange the time."
Shen Lanshu poured Yun Zheng a cup of hot milk and said, "Yes, leave the company's affairs to your father for the time being. This is his only use now."
Fu Yanze, who was sitting beside him, looked at his wife with resentment and pity.
He put down the financial newspaper in his hand and looked at his wife with a wronged look on his face. "Wife, am I so useless in your eyes?"
Shen Lanshu sipped her tea elegantly, her eyes slightly raised. "Oh? Then tell me, can ties and socks be washed together?"
"That...that was an accident~" Fu Yanze's ears turned red and his voice became smaller and smaller.
The old lady slammed her hands on the table, nearly causing Fu Yanze to spill his coffee. "You're already a grown-up, yet you're still so irritable! Shushu is right. Your only task now is to manage the company well and let Linghe spend more time with Zhengzheng."
Yun Zheng couldn't help but chuckle at the pitiful appearance of her father-in-law being besieged by the whole family.
Who would have thought that Chairman Fu, who is so powerful in the business world, has such a "humble" status at home.
Fu Linghe leaned close to her ear, his warm breath brushing her earlobe, "Don't feel sorry for my dad, he enjoys it."
Yun Zheng turned her head to look at him and found that there was a glint of gloating in his eyes.
Only family members can see this kind of Fu Linghe.
After breakfast, Fu Linghe stood up and prepared to go to the company. Yun Zheng stood up as well, "I'll walk you to the door."
In the corridor, Fu Linghe suddenly turned around and pushed Yun Zheng against the wall. He placed his palm behind her head to prevent her from bumping into it, and his other hand gently stroked her abdomen.
"Be good today, okay?" His voice was low and gentle. "Don't make Mommy too hard."
Yun Zheng felt warm in her heart.
"You too." She raised her hand to adjust his tie. "Don't overwork yourself."
Fu Linghe grabbed her hand and kissed it. "I'll be back after the morning meeting. Let's go home tonight."
