Chapter 385 Return to Our Own Home
After Fu Linghe left, Yun Zheng stood under the porch and watched the black car drive out of the courtyard until its taillights disappeared around the corner.
The early winter wind swept through the courtyard, picking up a few early-withered plum petals and dropping them at her feet.
"Come in, it's cold outside." Shen Lanshu gently supported her shoulders. "That brat specifically told me to watch over you and make sure you don't catch a cold."
Yun Zheng withdrew her gaze and touched the phone screen with her fingertips.
Fu Linghe just sent a message, "Hurry in, don't stand at the door. Remember to eat the bird's nest warm in the kitchen."
The corners of her lips unconsciously rose, and she typed a reply: [Understood, Mr. Fu.]
After sending the message, a sudden feeling of fatigue hit me.
Yun Zheng covered her mouth and yawned slightly, and her eyelids suddenly became heavy.
"Mom, I might need to go back to my room and rest for a while." She rubbed her temples. After pregnancy, this sudden sleepiness always caught her off guard.
Shen Lanshu immediately became nervous, "Are you feeling unwell somewhere? Should we ask Doctor Li to come and see?"
"I'm just a little sleepy." Yun Zheng patted her mother-in-law's hand soothingly. "Isn't it normal for pregnant women to be sleepy?"
Shen Lanshu finally breathed a sigh of relief and helped her upstairs personally.
Pushing open the bedroom door, the sunlight shines through the gauze curtains onto the beige carpet, forming a warm spot of light.
As soon as Yun Zheng touched the pillow, sleepiness came over her like a tide.
In a daze, she felt Shen Lanshu tuck the corner of the quilt for her, and then the sound of the door being gently closed seemed to come from a long distance away.
——
In the top-floor conference room of Fu Group, Fu Linghe listened absentmindedly to the financial director's report.
His phone screen had lit up three times, but Yun Zheng had not replied to the message he sent half an hour ago.
This is very unusual, because usually she always replies immediately.
"Mr. Fu?" the assistant whispered, "Do you have any instructions for the third quarter report?"
Fu Linghe came back to his senses and glanced at the projection screen. "Recalculate the data for the South China region and send it to my email before 3:00 PM."
He stood up and said, "The meeting will be shortened. The heads of each department will summarize the key issues and report them to Assistant Qi."
The executives looked at each other in bewilderment. Mr. Fu was known as a workaholic, and it was rare for him to end a meeting early.
Fu Linghe was already striding towards the elevator while dialing the phone at home.
"Where is the young lady?" he asked directly as soon as the phone was connected.
"She's resting upstairs," the servant replied. "The mistress said the young mistress had fallen asleep and asked us not to disturb her."
Fu Linghe frowned slightly, "How long have you been sleeping?"
"Almost two hours."
The elevator door opened, and Fu Linghe walked quickly towards the parking lot. "I'll be right back."
——
After Shen Lanshu knocked on the bedroom door for the third time without success, a trace of uneasiness passed through her heart.
She took the spare key from her pocket and quietly opened the door.
The room was so quiet that you could hear the faint sound of the humidifier spraying water mist.
Yun Zheng lay on her side in the middle of the big bed, her long hair spread out on the pillow, her breathing even and long.
The sunlight cast a small shadow under her eyelashes, making her look particularly peaceful.
"This child..." Shen Lanshu breathed a sigh of relief, took out a cashmere blanket from the closet, and carefully covered Yun Zheng with it.
She noticed that Yun Zheng unconsciously protected her lower abdomen with her hands even in her sleep, and tenderness appeared in her eyes.
As she closed the door gently, she heard hurried footsteps downstairs.
Fu Linghe almost ran up the stairs, his tie loosened a little, and a few strands of unruly hair were scattered on his forehead.
"Mom, where's Zheng Zheng?"
"Shh..." Shen Lanshu raised her index finger to her lips, "You're sleeping soundly."
Fu Linghe then slowed his breathing and whispered, "She hasn't replied to my message yet."
"All pregnant women are like this." Shen Lanshu smiled and shook her head, "When I was pregnant with you, I could sleep from the afternoon until dawn the next day."
She paused, "But you're back just in time. The kitchen has stewed some blood swallows. When she wakes up..."
"I know how to take care of her." Fu Linghe interrupted his mother, his tone soft but firm.
Shen Lanshu hesitated to speak, and finally just patted her son's arm, "Go, don't wake her up."
Fu Linghe gently turned the doorknob, and the scene in the bedroom instantly relaxed his tense nerves.
Yun Zheng curled up in the quilt like a sated cat, her cheeks flushed a faint pink from deep sleep.
He took off his suit jacket and hung it in the cloakroom, then tiptoed to the bed and sat down.
The back of his fingers gently rubbed her cheek, the touch was warm and soft.
Fu Linghe leaned over and placed a light kiss on her forehead, smelling the familiar scent of shampoo mixed with a hint of milk.
This is the unique smell on Yun Zheng's body after she became pregnant.
"Hmm~" Yun Zheng hummed softly in her dream, unconsciously rubbing towards the heat source, her forehead resting on Fu Linghe's legs.
Fu Linghe froze and dared not move, for fear of waking her up.
A gust of wind blew outside the window, and the plum branches tapped on the glass, making a slight sound.
He reached out to pull the curtains tighter, and his fingertips accidentally touched the photo frame on the bedside table. It was a photo taken when they first went out together. In the photo, Yun Zheng was leaning in his arms with a bright smile, and he was looking at her dotingly.
"Ling He?" Yun Zheng's dazed voice came from below. "What time is it?"
Fu Linghe lowered his head and met her sleepy eyes: "It's still early, sleep a little longer."
Yun Zheng shook her head and tried to sit up with her arms, but Fu Linghe immediately supported her back.
"Have I slept so long?" She looked out the window. The sunlight had turned golden. "It's almost evening."
"Are you tired of lying down?" Fu Linghe brushed away the loose hair on her forehead.
Yun Zheng shook her head, and suddenly remembered something, "Your company's affairs..."
"It's all done." Fu Linghe casually mentioned the fact that he had left the meeting early. "Are you hungry? There's snow frog soup in the kitchen."
Yun Zheng was about to answer when her stomach protested.
They both laughed out loud. Fu Linghe pinched her nose and said, "I'll have someone bring it up."
"No." Yun Zheng grabbed his wrist, "I want to go back to Tanxiyuan."
Fu Linghe raised his eyebrows, "Now?"
"Yeah." Yun Zheng nodded, her eyes sparkling. "I haven't been back for a long time. I miss our bed and the jacuzzi in the bathroom..."
She suddenly lowered her voice, "Besides, here, Mom and Grandma always watch me drink the tonic, and I feel embarrassed if I don't..."
Fu Linghe chuckled softly, the vibration of his chest transmitting to Yun Zheng's arm against his. "So Mrs. Fu can be picky about food, too."
"Those medicinal foods are really bitter." Yun Zheng pouted, unconsciously adopting a coquettish tone. "Not to mention the other abortion-maintaining medicines that Doctor Li prescribed, they definitely contain coptis root."
Fu Linghe was amused by her childish expression and couldn't help but kiss the corner of her mouth again, "Okay, let's go home."
He stood up and walked to the cloakroom. "Wear something warmer. It's getting colder in the evening."
Yun Zheng followed him barefoot on the carpet and leaned against the door frame to watch him skillfully choose from the wardrobe.
Fu Linghe took out a camel-colored cashmere coat and a matching scarf. When he turned around, he noticed she was barefoot and frowned immediately. "The ground is cold."
"The carpet is very warm..." Under Fu Linghe's disapproving gaze, Yun Zheng obediently went back to put on her slippers.
When Fu Linghe knelt on one knee to help her put on the plush slippers, Yun Zheng suddenly reached out and hugged his neck, hanging her whole body on him.
"What's wrong?" Fu Linghe steadied his body and naturally supported her lower back with his palm.
"I just suddenly want to hug you." Yun Zheng buried her face in the crook of his neck, her breath caressing his skin.
Fu Linghe's heart softened and he held her in his arms, rocking her gently in place, like coaxing a child.
The cloakroom was filled with the faint fragrance of the fabric softener that Yun Zheng often used, mixed with the lingering woody scent on Fu Linghe's suit, forming a unique scent that belonged only to them.
"Am I overweight?" Yun Zheng suddenly asked.
Fu Linghe deliberately weighed it and said, "It's two taels heavier."
"Fu Linghe!" Yun Zheng hit his shoulder, but he took the opportunity to kiss her.
The kiss was gentle and long, until Yun Zheng gently pushed him away, "I can't breathe..."
Only then did Fu Linghe let her go and put on her coat.
When he was tying the scarf, his fingers accidentally brushed against the side of her neck, causing Yun Zheng to shrink her neck, "Cold!"
"My bad." Fu Linghe held her hand in his palm and blew on it. "Next time, I'll definitely warm my hands before tying the scarf around you."
When I went downstairs, Shen Lanshu and the old lady were already waiting in the living room.
Seeing that they were dressed neatly, the old lady asked first, "Where are you going?"
"Back to Tanxi Garden." Fu Linghe answered briefly.
"Nonsense!" The old lady banged her cane on the floor. "Zheng Zheng needs someone to take care of her. How can you two live alone?"
Shen Lanshu was also worried. "At least wait until the pregnancy is stable before going back? There is only one aunt in Tanxiyuan, and there are not many servants. How can she handle it?"
Yun Zheng was about to speak when Fu Linghe had already tightened her grip on her hand. "Mom, Grandma, I can take good care of Zheng Zheng and the baby."
His tone was calm but undeniable, "Yun Zheng misses home."
The old lady wanted to say something, but Shen Lanshu shook her head gently: "Let them go."
She turned to Fu Linghe and said, "I asked the kitchen to pack some supplements and ingredients. Remember to put them in the refrigerator."
The old lady sighed, took Yun Zheng's hand and reminded her, "You must drink medicinal food every day, don't indulge in cold weather, and keep your phone open at all times..."
"Grandma, I remember everything." Yun Zheng nodded obediently.
Shen Lanshu brought out a thermos, "This is freshly stewed bird's nest, drink it in the car."
She handed Fu Linghe another piece of paper and said, "It says the taboos during pregnancy. Memorize it for me."
Fu Linghe took it reluctantly, "I know, Mom."
Before leaving, the old lady suddenly called Fu Linghe and lowered her voice, "Don't bother her at night. The first three months are the most important."
Fu Linghe's ears instantly turned red, "Grandma!"
Yun Zheng turned back curiously, "What did grandma say?"
"Nothing." Fu Linghe hugged her and walked quickly towards the car, "Let's come back for dinner often."
When the car drove out of the Fu family's old house, Yun Zheng saw through the car window that Shen Lanshu and the old lady were still standing on the porch watching them go.
The setting sun stretched their shadows very long, and Yun Zheng suddenly felt a little sad.
"Can't bear to leave?" Fu Linghe noticed her mood and held her hand.
Yun Zheng shook her head and leaned her head on his shoulder. "I just feel... very happy."
Fu Linghe kissed the top of her head without saying anything, but tightened his grip on her hand.
The car stereo was playing a soft piano piece, intertwined with the hum of the engine.
