Chapter 66 Being Extorted
Shu Ning squatted down and frowned as she looked at his firm and muscular back, which was now covered in blood.
She wanted to wash him with water first, since he had just been rubbing against the ground and had gotten a lot of dirt and dust on him.
She had just stood up when the man next to her reached out and grabbed her tightly.
Where are you going?
"I'll get you some water. The wound needs to be cleaned, otherwise it will get infected. I don't want to be extorted by you like this."
“There’s no water here. Don’t think I don’t know you’re going to abandon me,” Nightmare said.
Shu Ning rolled her eyes at him.
"Fine, fine, I won't go." She squatted back down.
Then, she reluctantly took some water from her space to give him a quick rinse.
They also took out some animal hides and herbs.
She hadn't even used it herself before giving it to this orc who was clinging to her.
Shu Ning grumbled inwardly, and tightened her grip on her hands.
"...Hmph!" The man groaned in pain from her rough movements.
"Wait a minute." Nightmare frowned, touched his back, and sniffed it.
After confirming there was no unusual smell, he asked, "Is this water?"
"Mm," Shu Ning replied as she tore the animal hide into strips.
Where did you get this from?
"I am a goddess, and this is something I conjured up," she said casually, making it up.
Then they applied the crushed herbs to him and bound him up with animal skin strips.
While he was still in surprise, he felt herbal medicine being applied to his back.
"And what about these?" she asked as she applied the medicine to his wound.
"It also changes."
He, who had initially disbelieved it, now began to doubt himself.
He wanted to turn around and look at her, but unexpectedly bumped into her as she was about to wrap the animal skin around his neck. Their lips lightly touched.
Shu Ning was startled and frowned when she was touched, but when she looked up and met his gaze, her tightly furrowed brows instantly relaxed upon seeing his cold and stern face.
Her gaze darted away as she continued to quickly tie him up, then she stood up abruptly.
"Okay, if there's nothing else, I'll be going now."
Seeing that she was about to leave, he quickly got up and walked up to her.
"Is there anything else?" Shu Ning asked impatiently when she saw that he was about to stop her again.
"I haven't recovered yet, how can you bear to abandon me like this?" He looked at her with his captivating purple-gold eyes, leaned closer, and said in a low voice.
The man's sudden approach caused Shu Ning's face to flush red, her heart filled with mixed emotions.
"You, you're going too far," she stammered.
"I'm already so badly injured, how can you say such hurtful things to your patient?" He frowned slightly, his eyes feigning grievance.
Seeing that things couldn't continue like this, Shu Ning said, "I don't mean to abandon you, but I have urgent business to attend to right now and can't afford to waste time. I'll come back to see you after I'm done, okay?"
"What's the emergency? Take me with you."
"It's inconvenient for you."
"convenient."
"inconvenient."
"convenient."
...
Seeing his persistence, Shu Ning changed the subject and asked, "Why do you insist on coming with me?"
"Aren't you a goddess?" he asked as he approached.
"I was lying to you," Shu Ning said, raising her voice.
"What's the deal with the water and herbs, hmm?" He looked at her with a hint of amusement in his deep eyes.
"Yes... don't worry about it, it wasn't conjured up anyway." Shu Ning turned around, her eyes darting away, not daring to look at him.
"Okay, I won't ask about that, but you can't abandon me." Seeing that she was avoiding the topic, he became even more curious, but for now, he had to keep her here.
Shu Ning sighed. Seeing how persistent he was, she decided to let him come along first, and then find a chance to ditch him halfway through.
"Alright."
The man's lips curled into a slight smile when he heard that she had finally relented.
"Where are you going? I'll carry you." Then he transformed into his original form, Crimson Flame.
Shu Ning wanted to climb up without hesitation after hearing this, since he had wasted so much of her time.
But when she thought of the scar on his back, she hesitated.
"No need, ah—"
As soon as Shu Ning finished speaking, he easily pulled her onto his back.
“Weren’t you injured?” she asked uneasily, sitting up.
"Mm," he replied.
"Then put me down."
"Sit still." After saying that, he prepared to get up.
“Mm,” Shu Ning replied.
Where to?
"Just keep going in this direction," Shu Ning pointed out to him.
The man then carried her quickly in the direction she pointed.
Shu Ning sat on his lap and couldn't help but sigh.
That man is really fast!
And it's very stable; it truly deserves to be called the king of beasts.
She had run for almost a whole day to get here from the wolf pack, and he would soon be finishing the rest of her planned route for the day.
Suddenly she wanted to ask him something, but then Shu Ning remembered that she didn't even know his name yet.
So she asked, "My name is Shu Ning, what's your name?"
“Nightmare,” he replied.
"Eye? That's a strange name, and it's a single-character name," Shu Ning said.
The man knew immediately that she had guessed wrong, so he added, "The 'nightmare' in 'nightmare'."
Shu Ning gave an awkward laugh upon hearing his explanation.
"This nightmare is much cooler, hehehe."
Shu Ning recalled that when she first entered that mountain path, there were almost no animals, let alone beastmen. So far, she had only seen one beastman, him.
She couldn't help but look down at him.
"Was that your territory just now? I didn't see any other orcs," she asked curiously.
"Um."
Shu Ning wasn't surprised to hear this; tigers always preferred to be alone and rule the mountains.
Suddenly, she remembered something and asked, "Now that you've come out with me, what about your territory? Won't someone else take it over?"
"They dare not."
"Why wouldn't I dare? You're not even there anymore."
"I wouldn't dare."
Shu Ning didn't understand. She guessed that he had probably driven away all the beastmen around him.
But then again, with his strength and good looks, he must have many suitors, so why is he still bothering her?
“Where is your female?” she asked.
"No," he replied succinctly.
"What?" Shu Ning didn't hear clearly; the wind had been quite strong just now.
“I have no females,” he said.
After hearing this, Shu Ning was curious as to why he didn't have any females, but she didn't ask any further questions.
The two remained silent for the rest of the journey.
...
As it was getting dark and they were almost at the river, Shu Ning didn't plan to tell him about the rest of the journey.
So he made an excuse, saying, "It's getting dark, let's rest for today and set off tomorrow."
"Um."
After stopping by the river, the man squatted down so that the female on top of him could relieve herself.
It then transformed back into human form.
Shu Ning walked behind him and looked at the wound. It had stopped bleeding, but the bandages that had been tied up when he returned to his original form had long since come undone and were nowhere to be found.
It's also possible that she rubbed it off herself, and thinking of this, she couldn't help but blush.
"Let me re-bandage it for you," she said.
The man's eyes flashed with surprise at her taking such initiative this time.
"What's the matter?" he asked.
"Looking for my beast husband."
Shu Ning didn't hide it from him, and also let him know that she already had a beastly husband.
Upon hearing that the female already had a mate, his eyes lowered slightly, and the light in them dimmed considerably.
