Chapter 28 Half a Fellow Traveler

"Xie Zhiqing, are you all alone here?"

Just as Xie Yuyao was deep in thought, a slightly frivolous voice came from her left.

She turned to the side and saw a dark-skinned, roguish-looking man walking towards her.

"Who are you?" Xie Yuyao became wary.

The man pretended to be serious: "My name is Zhao Dayong, and I'm also from Qingshantun. I've heard a lot about Xie Zhiqing and wanted to make friends with you."

"Hmph, friend?" Xie Yuyao sneered, casually picking up a thick wooden stick from beside her and playing with it.

Since she dared to go to a secluded place alone, it's not only because of the spatial weapons she possesses, but also because of her own considerable skill.

Ever since she saw two women fighting in the fields, she knew that her own fighting skills were also a key guarantee for survival, since the weapons in her space could not be used at any time.

After taking some time to train and practice in the space these past few days, she has basically picked up the Chinese martial arts she learned in her previous life, and dealing with the person in front of her is no problem.

She had heard of this Zhao Dayong. He was one of the few hooligans in Qingshantun. His parents were both dead, and he only had a grandmother. He was idle and did not do any proper work all year round.

But no one knew how he managed to support his elderly grandmother. Many people in the village speculated that he was buying and selling on the black market.

He came looking for me, could it be that he wanted to resell dried fruit?

Seeing her reaction, Zhao Dayong laughed. "Don't be so nervous. I mean no harm. I heard you were attacked by a wild boar last time, and I was worried you might encounter some danger on your own, so I came to check on you. After all, you're quite the celebrity in the brigade now. If anything were to happen to you, wouldn't it be a loss for everyone?"

"So I should thank you?" Xie Yuyao said sarcastically.

Zhao Dayong said shamelessly, "Don't be so polite!"

Seeing that it was getting late, Xie Yuyao stood up and walked slowly, saying, "I'm going back to cut grass. Do as you please."

"I'll cut it for you. From now on, I'll take care of all your work!" Zhao Dayong patted his chest and followed.

Xie Yuyao found it amusing: "Really? Then you'll help with the work in the fields too?"

Zhao Dayong's eyes darted around, and he tried to get closer to speak, but Xie Yuyao blocked him with a stick.

He immediately raised his hands to indicate that he was harmless, then looked around to observe his surroundings, and whispered, "How much are the work points in the fields worth? I have connections to get grain and money. Whatever you want, I can find it for you."

Xie Yuyao tilted her head and raised an eyebrow. "So, you really are involved in the black market?"

"My nickname is Brother Yong." Zhao Dayong put one hand on his hip and the other on his head, striking a pose that he thought was very arrogant and cool.

"Pfft..." Xie Yuyao laughed.

Looking at the beautiful woman before him, whose body was trembling with excitement, Zhao Dayong was extremely proud.

"You want to talk to me about dried fruit, right?"

Zhao Dayong feigned surprise: "How could you think that way?"

"You say I'm a big shot, but I also attended the meeting this morning. The team leader just mentioned me casually, and not many people paid attention to me. So tell me, whose favorite am I?"

Zhao Dayong suddenly realized and gave a thumbs up: "Smart! No wonder you're from the city."

Xie Yuyao laughed again. The reason she argued with him was because she found that the person in front of her was not like other thugs and ruffians; he had simply taken a dangerous path of walking a tightrope.

If she wants to live a comfortable and carefree life, she certainly can't do without the black market, so she can be considered a half-fellow traveler.

"Don't even think about the dried fruit."

Zhao Dayong became anxious. "Why? I heard from the brigade leader that we only sell to nearby communes. We're in the county town, so there won't be any conflict."

“Since the dried fruit has already caught the captain’s eye and is now being sold in the name of the collective, it cannot be allowed to circulate on the black market.”

Seeing her resolute attitude, Zhao Dayong had no choice but to back down, "Then can you cook any other delicious food? Those city people don't lack money, they just lack food."

"Let's talk about this after this is over. Tell me about the black market in the county first."

"Okay!" Zhao Dayong replied happily, and walked and talked with Xie Yuyao. "There are several black markets in our county, selling all sorts of things, but the most common items are grain and cloth. However, the organization I belong to is the most powerful, with several territories."

Xie Yuyao's heart skipped a beat, and she asked for their leader's name. Sure enough, it was Brother Qi the Third.

This is truly an incredible coincidence.

When the topic turned to the eldest brother, Zhao Dayong recounted Qi Sange's glorious deeds at length. If he had to sum it up in one word, it would be "righteous and loyal."

At the foot of the western mountain, where wild grass grows abundantly, Zhao Chunling and the children are wielding sickles to cut grass.

Normally, they would have finished their tasks by now, but today a wild rabbit jumped out, causing everyone to chase after it.

They failed to catch the rabbit, and time passed quickly. With noon fast approaching, they worked hard to finish their task.

Zhao Chunling raised her hand to wipe her sweat and saw Xie Yuyao and Zhao Dayong walking over, chatting and laughing.

She immediately recalled what Old Lady Zhang had said: Zhao Dayong has done nothing but illegal things, so never get involved with him.

"Xie Yuyao!" Zhao Chunling ran up, grabbed Xie Yuyao's arm, and pulled her a few steps away. "How could you be walking with him? Even if you have no hope with my nephew, don't give up on yourself!"

Xie Yuyao: ......

Zhao Dayong was quite surprised to hear Zhao Chunling's rather loud whispers not far away. Xie Zhiqing and Zhao Honghui?

"Xie Zhiqing, let me tell you, he's not a good person. Getting close to him could ruin you, you know that!"

Xie Yuyao just smiled and said, "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."

On the other side, Zhao Dayong asked Xiao Hu and the others a few questions, then picked up Xie Yuyao's basket, which was already full of grass, and said, "I'll take it back to you. You can go straight back to the educated youth compound."

Thanks!

Seeing Xie Yuyao smiling and thanking her, Zhao Chunling was so angry she almost jumped up. "No way, are you that desperate for a man?!"

"What nonsense are you talking about!" Xie Yuyao was also unhappy and said impatiently, "Thank you for your kind reminder, but I don't think he's a bad person, there's no need to treat him like a wolf."

"Do you know what he does?"

"I know, I just talked to him. His business has nothing to do with me."

"You! I can't reason with you!" Zhao Chunling picked up her basket and went behind a big tree to cut grass, hoping to avoid seeing it.

On the other side, Zhao Dayong and Zhao Honghui, both carrying baskets on their backs, unexpectedly met.

Seeing Zhao Honghui's sharp gaze, Zhao Dayong felt guilty, like a mouse seeing a cat.

"Brother Honghui, going up the mountain!" he greeted him, and seeing the other man nod and pass by, he quickened his pace.

But he had only taken a few steps when he was called back.

"Wait!" Zhao Honghui suddenly stopped, turned around and called out to him, "Who are you mowing the lawn for?"

Judging from the large basket he was carrying, he was clearly an adult.

As far as he knew, the only adults in the grass-cutting team were his aunt and Xie Yuyao. Could it be that he had a crush on his aunt?
