Chapter 91: Engraving
Anno listened to an eight-year-old child say such things to him and didn't know how to respond for a moment.
She thought that Huo Yin had been clinging to her like this only because of the energy. The first time she met him, she used her energy to help him stabilize his volatile mental state, and it was also the first time she had felt that strange energy within her body.
But as she used her energy more often, she discovered that not everyone who experienced her energy would develop such a strong dependence on her.
Although she does experience feelings of dependence and liking when she interacts and merges with the energy of others, it's at most like Tuka's.
She didn't object to Huo Yin's dependence on her, but she always had an indescribable feeling when she was with Huo Yin.
It's as if he was born to be by her side, and she feels that his appearance and their meeting were not accidental.
This was just a feeling she had, and she couldn't yet give an answer as to why she thought that way.
Looking into Huo Yin's beautiful golden eyes, she said, "You and Tuka are friends. You can come to me anytime you want."
She wasn't sure if she had expressed herself correctly. Huo Yin was still young, and she wouldn't take a child's words too seriously. He had a new family, and they would each have their own lives in the future. No one could predict what would happen.
When she was on Earth, she also had peaceful and happy days, with kind friends and elders. But everything was so short-lived, and happiness vanished like sand slipping through her fingers.
After witnessing the tragedies of several of her friends, she never made any more friends or became close to anyone.
Huo Yin reached out and touched Anuo's face, looking at her with utmost seriousness, and said, "I will always be by your side."
Anno curled the corners of her lips slightly, but said nothing more.
The afternoon sun was shining brightly, and Anuo and Huo Yin sat on a bench basking in the sun.
In the past, Anno lived in a colder northern region because there were fewer mutated plants and animals there, but also fewer resources and food.
She loves sunbathing and enjoys the feeling of the sun's intense heat on her skin.
The other children watched Anno comfortably basking in the sun and didn't bother her; they just played around her.
Tuka quickly became friends with Tao Tao and the others. The two girls, who were the same age and both had cheerful and active personalities, chased and played around in the square.
The elders were all watching Anuo and the youngest children.
Is the baby too hot?
Lokin took a water bottle out of his backpack and handed it to Anno.
"It's not hot." Anuo took the drink, drank a couple of sips, looked up at her and smiled, "Sunbathing feels good."
Looking at Anuo's adorable appearance, Luo Jin's heart softened, and she smiled as she pinched Anuo's slightly rounder cheeks.
Anno watched as Tuka and the others chased after the shapeshifting ball, holding his water bottle. Tuka and Tao Tao Le were among the few beast species that liked to show their half-beast forms, and their running postures still retained their respective beast forms.
Feeling drowsy from the sun, she swayed a couple of times and leaned against Huo Yin's shoulder.
Huo Yin sat upright the whole time, and after Anuo leaned against him, he didn't move at all.
Only after Anno fell asleep and Lokin carried her away did he get up.
Seeing that it was getting late, Locke told Winnie and the others to take the children home, while he and Tang Ting took Anno back to the hospital.
Huo Yin followed reluctantly for a couple of steps, but Wu Sui stepped forward and grabbed his shoulder. "I should take you back now."
Huo Yin stood there for a long time, watching Luo Jin carrying Anuo disappear around the corner of the flower bed before turning his gaze away and following Wu Sui back to his new home.
He didn't really care about the new home or anyone else.
From the time he could remember, he seemed to be pursuing a goal. He lived in the desolate exile for a long time, during which he hunted and killed like a wild beast, biting anyone who dared to approach him.
He never dreams, but sometimes his consciousness becomes confused, and in this confusion, a small figure appears in his mind, and a voice keeps ringing in his ears.
"You will become her lord, forever loyal to her. Everything you have belongs to her; she will be engraved in your genes, in your soul, and she will be the direction you take in this life."
who is she?
What exactly is he looking for?
He didn't know, but the thought of searching for someone he couldn't find always filled him with immense anxiety.
Later, people came to the exile site to capture degenerated beasts and fallen creatures. This time, he did not resist much because he knew that the person he was looking for was not here, and he needed to go somewhere else.
When he first saw that small figure, her wet blue eyes looking at him, and her aura of energy, he knew he had found her.
He doesn't care about anything or anyone except her.
On the way back, Huo Yin's personal terminal rang. He glanced at the caller ID—Hailier—and hung up.
As soon as he hung up, Hailier called him again. After he hung up several times, he answered coldly, "Speak."
Hailier: "You little brat, your temper is even worse than your old man's when he was a kid!"
Huo Yin: "Hang up."
"Hey, wait a minute! Your old man's out of town for a bit. Tell me quickly, how's the little one doing? Is he strong and healthy? Does he eat a lot? What does he like?"
When Huo Yin heard him mention Anuo, he withdrew his hand from the call.
"She has an allergic rash that hasn't gone away yet. She's small and not very strong. I haven't seen her eat. She used to be a good eater, but she didn't eat much compared to us. She likes weapons."
"She's not strong, is she too thin? That won't do. But it's good that she doesn't pick at her food. She'll grow strong if she doesn't pick at her food. She must have suffered a lot. If you take good care of her, she'll definitely grow up well."
Upon hearing Huo Yin's words, Hailier immediately smiled and began to chatter on, "Once the little one is feeling better, we'll have a family banquet and invite Luo Jin and the others over for a meal. You say the little one likes weapons? How could she possibly like weapons? You must be mistaken... you..."
As Hailier was speaking, Huo Yin hung up the call.
"That brat."
Hailier chuckled and cursed, then closed the quantum computer interface, his smile gradually fading.
He looked out and saw the aircraft flying over the Hall of Heroes and heading towards the Federal Building.
He looked away, opened the photo album on his computer, and pulled out a picture.
The photo is captioned Annossevier.
This is a screenshot he took from the official website of Huozhong. The child in the photo has a cold expression and no smile.
A three-year-old child who doesn't like to smile.
His fingers gently traced the photograph; he would never forget, nor mistake, those beautiful, jewel-like blue eyes until his death.
The moment Hailier saw her face, he knew for sure that this was the little queen beetle they had lost more than three hundred years ago.
