Chapter 143: Loyalty

Chapter 143: Loyalty

Inside the inner sanctuary, Caesar and the others were arranging the room and preparing various daily necessities for Anno.

They had already made the arrangements, but they didn't know Anno's preferences. Now that Anno has established a consciousness network with them and seen her past memories, they know what she likes, so they rearranged the decor according to her preferred style.

They glanced at Anno sitting on the edge of the balcony every now and then. She had been sitting there ever since she woke up. The king and queen were discussing the war in the palace and had asked them to come and keep her company.

They knew that His Highness wanted to be alone and didn't want them to disturb him.

They could only find something to do around her, and thankfully Her Highness didn't send them away.

Although they knew that the separation from Her Highness for three hundred years was caused by others, they still felt guilty for not being able to stay by Her Highness's side or protect her. They felt that it was all because of their own inadequacy, and that if they were stronger, they could have found Her Highness sooner.

Caesar placed the last sofa in front of the fireplace, which they had recently added. White Flame and Obsidian were making final modifications to the fireplace.

White Flame's ability is to melt objects and change their shape, while Obsidian's ability is to make substances as hard as iron and to turn them into gems and other objects.

They are brothers who hatched from a shell. With them around, a room can be transformed into any shape with just a few energy ores.

The Zerg race possesses various unique abilities, and even those of lower rank are not lacking in skill. Because of the uniqueness of their race, they do not require the high-tech lifestyles of other advanced civilizations in interstellar space.

Of course, this is also related to their lifestyle. The Zerg's life is actually very simple, and they don't like to do anything fancy.

Anno sat on the edge of the balcony, looking at the somewhat unfamiliar planet in front of him.

After establishing a consciousness network with the Zerg, she learned about all the planets in the West Vitello system. Zerg memories are inherited; when she was just hatched, she knew who she was, where her home was, her parents and clan, and everything about the Zerg.

The world before her was the scene that had appeared in her dreams. Before her was a vast plain, devoid of flowers, grass, and trees. The entire plain was composed of black, translucent crystals, and the ground was as smooth as a mirror. Occasionally, some mineral crystals grew from the ground, some as small as a fist, and others as large as a house. Some crystals grew very regularly, while others grew randomly. These minerals were of different colors and all emitted a faint or strong glow.

Further away are layers upon layers of mountains, mostly composed of minerals.

Above us hung a low-hanging starry sky, with the Milky Way stretching across it, a scene of breathtaking beauty, like a dream.

There are also two very close Zerg planets that appear extremely bright from the host planet, which has no daylight.

For the Zerg, with their extraordinary vitality and adaptability, the presence or absence of starlight is irrelevant. The Zerg have become self-sufficient, capable of adapting to and even altering the environment on extreme planets, rather than being altered by it.

Zerg species in different environments may differ and be divided into different groups, but their most basic and essential genes and core are the same.

Aside from their similar humanoid form, everything about the Zerg is different from other races; there are many things that even a "human" mind cannot comprehend.

It was precisely because Anno found the core and restored her memories that all the Northern River genes in her body were completely devoured. The past her seemed to be gradually dying out, but the memories of the past were so clear in her mind. The past Anno and the present Zerg prince Anunu clashed together.

It was like pouring a basin of water into a pot of hot oil, throwing her thoughts into disarray.

The Zerg's mindset is completely different from that of humans because in the past she needed to adapt to the Earth's environment. On Earth, she was alone, and the protective mechanisms in her genes made her feel like she was human.

Looking at the boundless plain before her, she felt dazed, as if everything in the past had been a long dream.

She was once human, once a spark, her soul has always been adrift, she is a wanderer, her past belongings were never true belongings.

Now, her soul has finally landed, but it is so heavy that she can hardly stand up.

The past was like a mountain pressing down on her soul, making it hard for her to breathe.

She couldn't let go of everything she had experienced in the past. The cruel tricks of fate made her feel both absurd and sorrowful, but after her soul returned to the ground, she felt that this was reality, an incredibly real reality.

She remembered a woman named Anaya, whom she knew in the West End, saying to her: "No matter how we wander, we will eventually find our soul's home."

If you can't find your way home, look up at the starry sky.

But later, she died too; perhaps she found her place.

Anuo thought of the few people who had been kind to her in the past: Wolf Mother, the people in the North District base, Sister Wenjia and Brother Xiaobai, and Sister Nai...

They are all gone.

Thinking of this, Anuo felt a pang of sorrow in her heart, as if a large hand was squeezing her heart, making it hard for her to breathe.

"Your Highness."

Upon hearing the voice, Anno turned around and saw Caesar.

Thinking of the words he had said to her with such seriousness, she pursed her lips and couldn't help but smile, feeling some relief from the unease in her heart.

She lifted her leg, which was hanging outside the balcony, and straddled it back. Caesar, fearing she might fall, stepped forward and held her tightly, looking somewhat nervous. "Your Highness, be careful."

Anno shifted slightly and placed her hand on his shoulder. "What are you afraid of? I haven't forgotten that I have wings."

Caesar looked at her intently and said, "But I will still worry about Your Highness. Your Highness, if you are unhappy, you can hit me to vent your anger. You can do whatever you want."

Anno looked at his dazzlingly handsome face, placed her hand on his face, and whispered, "It's strange. On one hand, I want to hide myself away, to a place where no one can see me, but on the other hand, it's like a wild beast is roaring inside me, frantically trying to break free..."

Caesar grasped her hand, looked into her eyes, and said, “Your Highness, let’s release this beast, and we will protect the side of Your Highness that you wish to hide.”

Anno looked at him with her eyes slightly lowered. Her long eyelashes cast a dark shadow under her eyes, making her skin appear almost transparent. Her light blue eyes were like light and shadow piercing through the clouds, so beautiful that Caesar even held his breath carefully.

“I used to hate being touched by others…” Anno’s fingers gently traced his cheek and brushed against his silver hair.

Caesar's Adam's apple bobbed slightly, and he lowered his head. "I apologize, Your Highness, I have overstepped my bounds."

As he spoke, he took a step back.

“Look up at me,” Anno commanded.

Caesar immediately looked up at her, and seeing Anno raise her wrist, he took another step forward, grabbed her hand and placed it on his cheek, his beautiful golden eyes staring straight at her.

Anuo couldn't help but laugh again at his puppy-dog-like eyes and actions.

She didn't used to laugh much, but actually she had a very low threshold for laughter; it's just that nothing used to make her laugh.

She placed her hand on his head and patted it: "You are not strangers."

Aside from her parents' consciousness, she was closest to these relatives, whose genes were imprinted with her energy, and their loyalty to her was beyond question.

The Zerg's interconnected consciousness ensured that she would not be unfamiliar with any of their members.

Their race is a close-knit whole, and they will never betray or question each other.

Her body fell forward, and Caesar quickly caught her.

Anno reached out and wrapped her arms around his neck, resting her head on his shoulder. "So sleepy..."

"I'll take you to rest."

Caesar carried Anno into the room, and as soon as he turned around, he saw that Secris and the others had stopped what they were doing and were all looking at them.

Caesar's lips curled into a barely perceptible smile as he led Anno toward the bedside.

Anno: "If we don't sleep in a bed, didn't you guys build a fireplace?"

Caesar paused, then led her to the fireplace and gently placed her on the large sofa.

Secris knelt down in front of Anno, gently lifted her head, and placed a pillow under her head.
