Chapter 147: First Encounter
In the courtyard, Anno stood in front of the tall crystal tree, feeling the energy emanating from it.
A light mist swirled around the crystal tree, with countless tiny rays of light flickering within it—this was the energy that the crystal tree had solidified into a tangible form.
Every Zerg planet has an energy center, and each energy center on a planet is the place with the strongest energy. The place where the royal palace is located is one such energy center.
The crystal tree in front of you is the embodiment of energy. Every energy concentration will manifest a different kind of symbol.
Since Anno returned to the Zerg, she has felt an unprecedented sense of comfort. The feeling of being enveloped by infinite energy made her feel as if she were floating among the clouds.
To soothe her consciousness, Augsis and Seville kept supplying her with energy. The energy was so saturated that she always felt sleepy. Now that the core had almost merged with her, she could control the energy. She didn't want to stay asleep any longer; she wanted to get rid of her past memories as soon as possible.
She is the queen of the Zerg, the future queen, and shouldn't be so weak.
As she thought this, a jumble of sounds appeared in her ears again. She closed her eyes and reached out to stir the mist in front of her. The crystal tree in front of her seemed to be guiding her, and the mist formed by energy flowed around her, helping her suppress those sounds.
Anno took a few steps forward, walked to the crystal tree, and placed his palm on it.
Her consciousness was instantly pulled into the crystal tree, rapidly traversing the network of consciousness. The voices of her clansmen were very clear in her mind, and many images would flash through her mind.
While the Zerg members may have their own private domains, they will not hide anything from their king, and will even open the gates of their consciousness to allow their king to enter.
For the Zerg, anything the King does for them is an honor, and they crave the King's attention.
Those of lower-ranking races who could not stand beside the king longed for his gaze even more; even a fleeting thought of his presence could bring them joy for a long time.
Anno had only recently introduced the Consciousness Network and still found the experience quite novel. Within this network, everyone's consciousness was completely open to her. This trust and loyalty were etched into the genes of the Zerg. Anno sighed inwardly, feeling the trust and reliance her people placed in her. The memories and emotions she had been suppressing these past few days gradually began to surface.
Past memories unfolded in her mind like a series of picture books, eventually turning into a raging fire burning in her heart.
Her consciousness paused for a moment in her past memories before sinking into them.
Only by facing her past self can she gradually emerge from the pain of the past.
She wants to turn the memories of the past into a sharp blade in her hand.
“Anno…”
"You little madman!"
Inside the base, Anno held a knife with half of its blade in his hand, bracing himself on the ground, his eyes fiercely fixed on the man in front of him.
An icicle floated in his hand, and the cold air spread across the ground, forming a layer of frost.
The onlookers kept their distance, afraid of catching a chill.
The fight between the man and Anno was just the most common thing in the base: those with superpowers bullying ordinary people without superpowers.
Anno stood out too much in the base; whether it was on missions or in internal training, she was always the best.
Every time supplies or meals were distributed, those with superpowers were always given priority at the front of the line, while ordinary people always received the least and worst supplies.
Even if these people charge into battle and earn a lot of contribution points, they will still be overshadowed by those with superpowers. Everyone assumes that ordinary people are inferior to those with superpowers. Even if they are dissatisfied, there is nothing they can do, because they can't beat those with superpowers. Even if they can beat one, the others with superpowers will make trouble for this "troublemaker" in order to maintain their status.
But within the base, there's always one troublemaker they can't subdue.
That was Anno, whom they called "Little Mad Dog".
Anno's body was covered in wounds from sharp blades formed from frozen ice. She gripped the broken blade, let out a low growl, and lunged at the man.
In the blink of an eye, Anno was thrown to the ground. The cold blade pierced through her arm and shoulder blade. She lay on the ground and laughed as she looked at the high, dilapidated ceiling of the base.
She laughed for a while, then turned to look. The man was lying on the ground, and her half-sharp blade was stuck in his heart. Crimson blood flowed from beneath him, covering the frost on the floor.
Everyone fell silent, watching as Anno pushed himself up from the ground.
The other mutants who had been with the man looked extremely ugly when they saw him dead. They glared at Anno and stepped forward to attack her.
Anno pulled the broken blade from the man's chest, straightened up, slowly raised his hand, pointed the broken blade at them, and looked at them with cold and ruthless eyes.
"Hmph, you're doomed today! The team leader went out to negotiate with other districts today, don't expect him to protect you!"
Anno watched as these mutants, armed with weapons, approached her step by step, like wolves hunting their prey, eager to tear her apart and devour her.
She was not afraid of them at all. Even at the last moment, she would bite their necks and tear their flesh apart!
The onlookers dared not intervene to stop the fight. Anno was an ordinary person without any mutated abilities and was very beautiful. Countless people in the base coveted her, but she was like a hedgehog. No one could lay a hand on her. Anyone who dared to touch her would either have their hands or feet broken or die.
So these mutants had wanted to subdue her for a long time. They said they wanted to kill her, but what they really wanted was to render her powerless and let her be their plaything.
They watched as Anno, wielding a broken blade, emerged like a trapped beast on its deathbed, unleashing its last strength to frantically attack the group.
Some people couldn't bear it and wanted to step forward, but were stopped by their companions.
“You can’t afford to offend those guys. Forget it, they won’t kill Anno.”
"But......"
But given Anno's personality, she would rather die than be subdued by them and become their plaything.
If Anno loses, she will die.
But today, the team that was with Anuo was all sent away, and the team leader happened to be absent...
Just as Anno was knocked to the ground by a thorny vine, a slender figure leaped in, her long sword slashing down at the attackers with moonlight-like radiance.
Anno struggled to sit up, wiped the blood from his eyes, and looked at the person who had come.
The girl was dressed in a thin combat suit, her long black hair tied up high, her expression indifferent, and her movements swift and decisive. In just a few moments, she had taken care of them.
They lay on the ground, lifeless.
This girl is just as ruthless as she is.
The girl twirled the long sword in her hand before sheathing it, then knelt down in front of her, extending her hand. "Can you still stand up?"
She followed the slender hand to look at her. Her face was still very young, and she looked not much older than her.
She was very beautiful, with dark, clear eyes that seemed to hold starlight. Although she had no expression, one could sense a hint of concern in her eyes.
Judging from her clothing and equipment, she must be from another base. The weather in the western district is cold, and no one would dress so lightly.
Anno didn't sense any mutant aura from this girl; she was just an ordinary person.
She placed her hand in the girl's warm palm, and the girl pulled her up with a force.
Anno watched as she fumbled around on her body, as if searching for something: "Where did Dad put the handkerchief for me?"
After searching for a while, she pulled a handkerchief from the butt of her gun at her waist and handed it to Anno, saying, "Here, I've never used one."
Seeing that Anno didn't answer, the girl continued, "My name is Anaya, and I'm from the Eastern District. From now on, we'll be teammates."
After hearing this, Anno took Anaya's handkerchief and said, "Thank you, my name is Anno."
She turned her gaze to the people on the ground and said, "You're very capable."
Anaya said, "You're not bad either, but you're too hasty in your attacks. You can handle one or two without any problem, but if there are more, you'll overlook their little tricks. These people love to launch sneak attacks."
As she spoke, Anaya looked her up and down, "How old are you?"
Anno: "Fourteen."
Anaya: "That's about my age, but..."
Anaya stepped forward and gestured with her hand above Anno's head, "I'm taller than you, so I'm older and you have to call me 'older sister'."
Seeing Anuo purse her lips and turn her head slightly away, Anaya didn't mind her somewhat resistant and defensive attitude. She directly took her hand and said, "Let's go. I brought some medicine. You're badly injured, so you need to apply the medicine quickly."
Anno instinctively tried to pull her hand away, but Anaiya held on tightly and led her straight through the crowd of onlookers toward the rest area.
She looked down at Anaya holding her hand. This was the first time someone had rescued her so selflessly and without hesitation, and taken her away.
