Chapter 5: Communication
Anno understood what he meant when he saw that he was holding two bottles that looked like medicine.
Watching him throw something out of the aircraft and then wash his hands with water, I couldn't help but purse my lips.
Did her actions just now make him think she disliked his dirty hands?
When he reached out to her again, she flinched back, but wasn't as resistant as before.
Hicks pried open her mouth and looked inside. Her gums were red and swollen, and blood was still seeping out. It seemed that her tooth was broken quite badly. One could imagine how hard the little cub had bitten him just now.
I sprayed her with hemostatic agent and painkiller one after the other.
After the medicine was sprayed, Anuo no longer felt pain, just a little numb and itchy.
Hicks rummaged around in the aircraft again and found some food, but none of it was suitable for the cub. Her stomach kept growling, and her beautiful light blue eyes, glistening with tears, looked at the food in his hand, revealing her longing to eat.
"Boss, I saw in the cub care manual that the emergency avoidance section says that cubs can drink nutritional supplements."
Apa piloted the aircraft while simultaneously using his personal computer to search for the cub care manual.
Advanced nutritional supplements are indeed good food for most people, as they are convenient and can provide the body with sufficient nutrition. However, the constitution of cubs is different from that of adults, and there are many different types of nutritional supplements.
He doesn't have any milk for her to drink right now, so he'll just have to make do for now.
Hicks opened a vial of nutrients and held it to Anno's lips, intending to feed her. Anno reached out and took the vial herself, smelled it, and took a sip. The sweet taste made her eyes light up instantly.
What is this food?! It tastes so good!
Hicks watched as the cub finished a vial of nutrient solution in one go, its expression visibly happy. Its tender little white feet swung around happily, and the light strips behind its ears swayed and flickered.
He raised an eyebrow slightly. It was just a vial of nutritional supplement, yet it tasted this good?
Thinking that this was the cub's first meal after birth, Hicks's usually indifferent eyes would reveal a hint of heartache and affection.
Let alone the Fire Seedlings, even ordinary cubs are not like her, who can't even get a sip of milk after being born.
He urged Apa to drive faster and contacted the watchtower in advance to find something like milk powder that the cubs could drink.
After finishing the vial of nutrients in her hand, Anno looked at the handful of nutrients that Hicks was holding; she wanted to drink some more.
Hicks didn't give Anno any more nutritional supplements. Although he knew Anno couldn't understand what he was saying, he still told her, "One vial of nutritional supplement is enough for an adult. You can't drink too much. It's not good for you."
Anno understood after hearing this and stopped staring at the nutrient solution in his hand.
"Give."
Huo Yin, who had been standing guard beside Anno, handed her the nutrient solution he was holding; it had just been given to him by Hicks.
Anuo turned to look at Huo Yin, saw the boy's pure golden eyes and the way he handed her the nutrient solution, smiled at him, pushed his hand back, and shook her head at him.
She racked her brains for a while, trying to recall the language they were speaking, then opened her mouth and uttered two words: "You...eat..."
Anno treats those who show kindness and goodwill towards her with gentleness and reciprocates with even more kindness.
Because in the end times, warmth is out of reach, and kindness is all the more precious.
When Hicks heard the cub speak, she looked at her in surprise. It had learned to talk so quickly?
Although those two words were rather unclear and awkward, the fact that he could speak so quickly shows that he is already very clever.
Moreover, Hicks had a feeling that the cub could understand what he was saying.
He patted her head and said gently, "There will be food when we get to our destination."
He had barely finished speaking when the aircraft lurched, and he quickly reached out to help Anno.
Apa turned around and said, "Boss, the wind is getting stronger, there might be a blizzard soon."
Hicks picked Anno up and carried her to the front passenger seat.
He had just sat down with Anuo in his arms when Huo Yin lay down at his feet like a little animal, staring intently at Anuo, its tail resting on her body as if afraid she would run away.
“Get in the seat.” Hicks removed his tail, then put it back in, repeating this several times. Hicks said coldly, “The scales on your tail will scratch her.”
Huo Yin reluctantly put his tail away.
Watching Huo Yin's actions, Apa asked curiously, "Will this little fire dragon live in exile forever?"
They don't look like they've ever lived with anyone.
"Hand him over to the security department and let them investigate."
Hicks looked at the cub in his arms. She sat on his lap, her eyes fixed on the horizon, filled with curiosity about the new world.
After Anno learned that Hicks and the others would not harm her, she felt a little relieved. From their conversation, she also learned that she seemed to be some kind of rare species.
But she doesn't seem any different from before.
Hmm... except for that strange energy in my body.
Anno didn't quite understand, but as long as she was safe, that was enough.
The aircraft was very warm. Anno was wrapped in Hicks's overcoat, which was getting quite warm from the heat. She adjusted the hem to expose her legs and squeezed her hands out of the coat.
Seeing Anno's actions, Hicks accessed the aircraft's control system on his personal computer, lowered the temperature slightly, and then tucked her hands and feet back into her clothes.
Anno was too lazy to move anymore, yawned, and leaned against Hicks, dozing off.
She's only about three years old now, and after all that fussing, she started to feel sleepy as soon as she relaxed.
Seeing that visibility outside was getting lower and lower, Hicks didn't want to rush Apa for safety reasons.
There wasn't even a blanket on the aircraft, so the cub had to make do huddled inside his clothes.
He never imagined he would encounter a spark, especially on a planet on the verge of becoming a wasteland, let alone that the spark would land on his spacecraft.
Apart from cigarettes, alcohol, nutritional supplements, and basic medical supplies, there was nothing else on the aircraft.
Anno fell asleep in his arms, her head tilting unconsciously to the side. Hicks reached out and gently supported her head. Seeing the cub lying asleep in his palm, Hicks's sharp features softened.
Two soft tendrils behind her ears fluttered unconsciously, occasionally brushing against his hand.
This was the first time Hicks had ever touched the light band of the fire. It was soft and warm to the touch, accompanied by fluctuations of the fire's pure energy, like flowing water.
He couldn't resist poking it with his finger. The light trembled, and Anno suddenly opened his eyes, looked up at him, and then reached out to grab the strange thing behind his ear.
She grasped the long tendrils behind her ears in her hand, her eyes widening slightly as she looked at the translucent tendrils that emitted a soft glow. What was this thing?
How come this thing grows behind her ear?
