Chapter Four: Hope
The fire seed can only unleash its strong purifying ability when it reaches near adulthood; it requires learning in the early stages.
This petri dish base, which had been abandoned for hundreds of years, actually hatched such a powerful spark.
The Fire Seed is a humanoid creature capable of purifying disordered genes, stabilizing mental fluctuations, and enhancing superpower levels. Whether they are genetically disordered beastmen or superhumans with superpowers, they all need the Fire Seed's purification ability.
It is called "fire seed" because of its special purifying ability, which means hope.
Now that hope is right in front of them.
Hicks and the others saw that the little fire dragon had calmed down and tried to approach Anno.
As soon as they got close, Huo Yin suddenly turned around, his tail lashing out at Apa. Apa recoiled in pain, clearly traumatized by the tail.
Huo Yin stood in front of Anuo, baring his teeth fiercely at them.
Apa retorted, "Hey, you brat! We won't hurt the cubs, you saw it for yourself, didn't you? We're not kidnappers, we're here to rescue you!"
Huo Yin knew that the three of them were different from those who had hurt him, but his survival instinct and the violent genes in his body filled him with hostility towards them.
Hicks said to him, "The Fire Seed cub is still young. You should entrust her to our protection. You'll kill her if you do this."
Huo Yin hesitated upon hearing this, then looked back at An Nuo, who was huddled up in a ball, shivering slightly from the cold.
Hicks took another step forward. Huo Yin stared intently at them, still very wary. Seeing Anno trembling, he pressed himself against her, warming her with his own body heat.
Anno reached out and tugged at Huo Yin, shaking his head to indicate that he was alright.
She saw the human traffickers behind Hicks, who were in shackles and unconscious.
She also heard what Apa said: they came to rescue Huo Yin, and they must be some kind of security force in this world.
Huo Yin stared at Hicks and his group for a while, and when he didn't sense any malice from them, he stepped back slightly and withdrew his claws, but still watched Hicks and his group warily.
Seeing that Huo Yin was no longer agitated, Hicks went over and picked up Anno, wrapping her clothes around her tighter.
Seeing the blood on her lips, I wiped it away and gently pried open her mouth. I saw that she had just bitten her own teeth and broken her gums, which were still bleeding.
He didn't have any medicine with him, so he could only take her to a place where her wounds could be treated.
Thinking of the little cub's fierce appearance just now, Max's eyes showed a hint of a smile: "You're just a Fireseed cub, how come you're acting like a beast cub?"
Anuo twitched the corner of her mouth. She was still frightened, thinking that the man in front of her was a vicious human trafficker.
"Ah Qiu!"
Anno felt a tickle in his nose and sneezed in Hicks's face.
Seeing her sneeze, Hicks frowned slightly, a look of worry in his eyes.
"I need to check your vital signs."
The fire is far too fragile for beasts and alien species, especially in their cub stage.
This was the first time he had ever encountered a Sparkling hatchling born in an abandoned culture base. Other Sparkling hatchlings received very meticulous care when their seed embryos were formed, unlike the one in his arms, which was not discovered until it was two or three years old, and in such a harsh environment.
The optical computer has a function to test vital signs. Although it is not as comprehensive as professional medical instruments, it has the basic functions. He brought up the detection function of the optical computer, scanned Anno, and various data were displayed one by one.
"Not very good."
Hicks saw that his health level was only 57%, and all the data were close to red, which was a rather dangerous sign.
"Gurgle..."
Anno's stomach growled loudly, and she blinked at Hicks; she was a little...hungry.
Hicks glanced at the interstellar criminals lying behind him and said to Fink, "Fink, you stay here and guard them, and make contact with the rest of the team. Apa and I will take the cubs to the nearest watchtower first."
Kappa, a planet already classified as a wasteland, has a harsh environment and low air quality, making it unsuitable for the fragile young sparks to survive.
"You're coming with us too."
Seeing that Huo Yin was staring intently at the cub in his arms, Hicks scanned his personal terminal at him as well.
The displayed vital signs information is all green, which means that the little fire dragon is healthy.
His injuries looked somewhat gruesome, but they were all superficial wounds. All mutant species have strong regenerative abilities, and he was an A-level beast-like mutant.
Hicks transferred the locator data and communication codes from the main control panel to the optical computer, so that when someone came, they could be located directly.
It's not safe here. There are often some thugs hanging around. Kappa is located in a relatively remote part of the North River system. The nearest jump point is quite far from Kappa. Even if the Federation and the Security Bureau send people to jump over, it will take at least a day. He has to take her to the watchtower for temporary shelter.
Because of his special undercover identity, it's not convenient for him to contact the Federation directly. The communication routes on Kappa Star are being monitored by the Black Thorn organization. If he communicates, the Black Thorn might discover something. The Black Thorn is still a cancer, so he can't expose his identity. The main reason is that he's currently taking care of a Fire Seed cub, and he can't afford to make any mistakes. He has to wait for the Federation to send someone over.
Anno was carried out of the petri dish factory by Mike. As soon as they stepped outside, a gust of cold wind blew against her face. She was already feeling unbearably cold, and this gust of wind made her involuntarily shrink her hands and feet and snuggle into Hicks' arms.
Hicks sensed the cub's movements and wrapped her up even tighter.
Apa tapped a few times on the quantum computer on his wrist, deactivating the stealth mode of their aircraft parked to the side.
After Hicks put Anno on the aircraft, he turned on the heater, and soon the aircraft became warm, and Anno finally stopped feeling cold.
Apa went to the pilot's seat to start the aircraft. Hicks secured Anno to the chair, then rummaged through a medical kit in the aircraft and took out a painkiller and a hemostatic spray.
Hicks wanted to pinch her cheek to make her open her mouth so he could apply the medicine; otherwise, this newborn cub, just born from the petri dish, wouldn't understand his words or his intentions.
But just as he reached out to pinch her cheek, she turned her head away.
Anno's action was completely subconscious; she was not used to being touched by others, even though she knew the person in front of her meant her no harm.
Hicks noticed that the cub seemed to be resisting his movements. He looked at his hand, brought it to his face, and smelled it; it still smelled of smoke.
He usually smokes, and he always smells of smoke on him.
Yes, cubs cannot smell smoke.
She must have disliked the smell of smoke on him.
He didn't smoke before, but he started smoking after stepping down from his position as CEO and going through a period of depression.
He took the cigarette out of his pocket and threw it out of the aircraft, then carefully washed his hands with water before continuing to pinch her face.
