Chapter Thirty-Three: Dependence
As soon as Luo Jin looked down, she saw the little cub staring intently at her, its hands gripping her clothes tightly, as if afraid she would be abandoned.
Tang Ting chuckled from the side, "Now the little one is completely dependent on you."
A child who has just emerged from a state of danger and fright will never leave that person's side once they find a sense of security in them.
Luo Jin bent down and picked Anuo up in his arms. "Then the baby will stay with me."
“Mmm.” Anno hugged Luo Jin’s neck, rested her chin on her shoulder, and looked at Wu Sui following behind them.
Wu Sui has a straight posture and walks with his eyes straight ahead, but he can't help but look at the cubs.
He has many important things to do now and can't be distracted by anything else, so he can only glance at her occasionally.
While replying to messages on her personal terminal via voice, Luo Jin observed the cub's condition. Noticing that the cub's gaze was fixed on something behind it, she turned around and saw that the cub was looking at Wu Sui.
She thought that since Wu Sui had hugged her on Casa Star, she might not be so resistant to him.
Anno looked at Wu Sui for a while before turning her gaze away and leaning on Luo Jin's shoulder to watch the spaceship crew members who kept passing by them.
"commander......"
"commander......"
Every staff member who passed by them would greet Locke respectfully, and their eyes would become particularly excited when they fell on her.
But because of Locke, he dared not show it and could only try his best to suppress it, but he still couldn't hide the joy on his face.
Anno watched them, all dressed in neat uniforms, each one well-trained and busy with their own tasks.
Even if someone is interested in her and wants to take a second look, they always pass by quickly and don't linger.
Seeing their hurried manner, Anno keenly sensed that something must have happened on the spaceship.
Logan carried Anno across the long bridge and took the elevator to the ship's main control room.
As soon as they entered the control room, the once busy and noisy room immediately quieted down, only to return to its busy state a moment later.
But those eyes still occasionally swept over Anuo, carrying the familiar excitement and joy she felt.
Sensing their emotions, Anno began to ponder what kind of existence she truly was in this world.
They looked at her as if she were some rare treasure; if she were just an ordinary child, they wouldn't have such a gaze and such emotions.
When several staff members saw Luo Jin carrying Anuo in, they quickly set up a rest area in the main control room and had some toys and other items brought over.
"What's going on? Why haven't we heard from the Governor of Canghai yet? Is there a problem with the communication system?"
Lokin carried Anno to the central projection conference table and questioned the officers and officials in charge.
"As you predicted, Commander, the communication system is malfunctioning. It's not just a problem on our end; seventy percent of the communication frequencies at all the starports and checkpoints in Canghai are down."
Lokin frowned slightly: "It's that serious. Have you found out what the problem is?"
An officer pointed at the conference table, and a projected image appeared before everyone.
"A large number of Electro Beasts suddenly appeared near the Starport, paralyzing most of the Starport's power system and network. Because the system was interfered with, our flight routes were also disrupted."
With one arm around Anno, Lokin gestured across the projection screen with the other. “Their appearance in this place is definitely not accidental. With so many deflectors placed near the starport, they wouldn’t dare come here. Someone deliberately let them in.”
Anno overheard their conversation and turned his gaze to the projection image. Amidst a continuous stretch of buildings, scattered red lights shone, which must have been the electrode beasts they were talking about that were disrupting the system.
A higher-ranking officer beside her hesitated and said, "Commander, could they be rebels...?"
Luo Jin glanced at him and said to Anuo, "Baby, why don't you go play with Brother Wu Sui first? It's right there."
Anuo followed her hand and saw the newly set-up rest area, just a few meters away from her.
She nodded, knowing that Locke was talking about something important, and didn't disturb her work.
Luo Jin handed the cub to Wu Sui to hold. After seeing that the cub did not show any resistance to him, he let go and watched Wu Sui take her to the rest area before continuing the previous topic.
She didn't want the little cub to hear words like "rebels" or "war." She was so young; she shouldn't be exposed to such dark things.
"Regardless of whether they are rebels or not, they are up to no good. Prepare for Level 1 defense, make contact with the legion on Canghai Star, and prioritize the protection of our starships."
Having fought on the battlefield for so many years, Lokin had a very high sense of crisis. She vaguely felt that this was aimed at them, or more precisely, at the Fire Seed Cubs.
The news of the Fireseed Cubs' presence on Casa came too suddenly, and they rushed to the rescue; it was impossible to keep it completely secret.
Now those gangs and villainous forces are eyeing the Fire Seed, and they won't miss such a good opportunity.
Anuo sat on the carpet, with Wu Sui playing with her a cube toy that could change colors. She had to memorize several scrambled sets of colored blocks in the shortest amount of time. The blocks would be scrambled several times and then flipped over, revealing different colors on the back. They would then be scrambled again, and she had to find the same colored block that hadn't been flipped over the first time.
This toy tests memory and eyesight. Since both sides have different colored blocks, it's a bit difficult to find the first or a specific pair of colored blocks. This was originally a small toy that Wu Sui and his classmates used for training at military school, so it wasn't difficult for him.
They wouldn't give such a difficult toy to a cub; it must have been accidentally left inside by one of the staff members.
Anuo watched as Wu Sui easily found the pair of colored blocks specified by the cube. She stared at them for a while before taking them from his hand.
Wu Sui watched as she tapped her finger on the scrambled blocks several times, each block emitting an incorrect red light. He patted Anuo's head and comforted her, "It's okay, we'll try a few more times."
Anno just picked this toy out of the pile of toys herself. This kind of toy is not only difficult for a toddler her age, but it is completely incomprehensible.
After trying it a few more times and understanding how to play with the toy and its rules, Anno began to find the scrambled color blocks one by one.
The red light stopped shining. A minute later, she found all twelve groups of color blocks, even after they were scrambled simultaneously.
Anno realized he had found the right one, restarted the toy, and continued searching. The red light never came on again.
Wu Sui was stunned. Even an adult beast or alien species would rarely be able to find all the correct answers on the first try. They would make a few mistakes along the way. But this little cub, who was only three years old, actually found all of them correctly on the first try.
